Metro pcs BYOD

lol yeah im starting to question if,
The Dell streak is the ideal phone we should be looking at in terms of BYOD compatibility/functionality,
How about a more common phone?
im not saying BYOD works flawlessly as none of us know this, but as of now we're limited to speculation due to:
Limited markets and feedback from BYODers using more NORMAL phones.

Point in case is everyone on this thread wants to know and wants to hop on BYOD, yet noone's making any contributions, and im sure theres more than one set of eyes lurking on this thread who lives in one of these markets lol, amazing isnt it

Yea his dell streak 5 isn't a phone its a tablet he uses as one,( i am surprised he got service at all) and yea aren't they supposed to check in the store for compatibility? My guess is metro employee saw big phone assumed it was a compatible device since big phones are all the rage now and thought his tablet was a phone.

I'm still trying to sale my s3 to get a compatible phone. Turns out there is a lot of "people" trying to get me to ship it but no good real offers. Hopefully soon I can try it out.

It's crazy how much the metro S3 has come down in price compared to the esteems current price. That's a big hit when selling it for those that forked up the cash and got it upon release :/
 
With all due respect Herr Fuzzmeister ;) part of being an "early adopter" is knowing you'll pay the highest price for the device.

I agree with you fuzz I got the phone upon release the first day actually knowing that it will go down and cdma going away but I have no regrets coming from the esteem it's world's apart and I can still rock it until 2015, but I like the screen on the s4 and I android is my hobby lol I figure sell my s3 for about $300 and look for the difference on the s4 or maybe I will go with an used s4 from tmobile
 
lets not turn this into an argument on why people should never own a high end well spec'd phone upon release, bottom line is if you got the money to do it then go for it but dont be crying or expecting for it to hold its value, i myself got my s3 on October 22, the very first day it came out in Miami paid $559 after taxes and now a brand new s3 is $350, i knew this would happen yet the marginal benefit exceeded the marginal cost for my particular case. Dont have the money? then get yourself a motion, that simple.

I'm also surprised the phone is even working due to its working requirements, yet the phone is on the compatible list (DELL M01M) on Metro's website, and a phone like the SGH-M919(Tmo GSM/LTE S4) is not, i would think the s4 is more likely to work but who knows, anyways, like i said earlier,

i think it would be BEST to have someone on the BYOD areas try and use a Metro sim on a more NORMAL device.
 
One thing to remember many people dont search this or any forum because everything is working perfectly.

So many people in byod markets probably have no trouble with there service thus they dont know anyone (us) want to know more about it.

I posted this in another thread but figured here would be better.

Spoke to a manager at a local metro store today, he told me sim would be available in his store july 10.

Whether that remains is to be seen but if so that would be sweet.
 
If there are hoards of happy BYODers, I would presume at least Some of them would have made it to Faceplant to tell the Mothership how happy they are.

There hasn't been Any.

I've seen one BYOD person there and they were dead in the water.

Most people these days dont look for places to tell everyone how happy they are with their service, they expect great service so when service is bad thats when they want to tell someone.

For sure. Mainly the point was surprise in the price now in comparison. Figured it would take longer to get to that price seeing as the esteem has dropped $100 or so and it's been out for 3 years or so now.

Being that people make YouTube videos for the absolute dumbest and pointless stuff, you'd think someone would make a video about it. For some reason there is a sense of accomplishment knowing your first to have a certain video topic.

There could be YouTube vids, I haven't checked.

What if no one is doing or risking it because they are scared of lost service
 
My experience with people in general, now there could be others of course,

Everyone expects great service they dont think anything of it as long as it works. Now if it doesnt work they complain loudly and want it fixed yesterday.

Those people will plaster messages on facebook, forums etc. if it doesnt work.

Then there are those that want info on rooting or other related that will search forums to find what they want those people will likely continue to browse the forum and learn new things or post and meet new people.
 
murphyscellphone repair has a video of teh gsm sgs3 i asked him for the build.prop (someone needs to get working on cm for it :P )

and i asked how much to ship sim cards. ill buy one myself and stick it in my old tmobile g2. i may not get data or anything of the sort yet but if i get signal then there is at l east that knowledge that mteropcs gsm is on in my area :P

Im not an expert, and I know I can and am frequently wrong, but I think other then the metro ID on the sim card the tower and service should be just regular tmo so anywhere tmo service works metro will.


So If it works as I think it does the sim broadcasts a metro unique identifier over regular tmo network/service that identifier will connect up to the back end of tmo/metro and it wont matter from which tower it comes from.

Kind of like straight talk on tmo network when the back end is in place its technically done and that was taken care of prior to the first launch of byod.

thats hopefully the idea, but who knows with metro. for all we know there could be a 60 year old woman named gladys on a switchboard for the metropcs tower :P

If you're in a T-Mobile coverage area, then "mteropcs gsm is on" in your area but that's not the issue. The issue is that stores/dealers in the area do not yet have system access in order to activate the SIM cards, and to "pair" them to GSM devices.

If you find a dealer to ship a Metro-branded SIM card to you, make sure they first pair it to your old G2's IMEI.

Other then them entering your sim info into the system your phone imei really doesnt matter. Other then trying to keep user error out of the equation.
