ALRIGHT... alright... i've seen some people complain about some really lame stuff on this thread but i've just let it go and not let it bother me... but you... you, my friend, sound like a crybaby. everyone on this thread wants this phone, but crying about it isnt going to get it to you any faster.

Trust me - I'm not crying. I'm almost at the point of being bored with this phone, before I even get it. And waiting isn't helping that situation. I get a new phone, every 8-12 months. It's really no big deal. Sorry to offend you.

So you all must be excited for next week! I was all over this thread a few months ago and finally gave up hope and got my Eris.

I hope you all enjoy your Incredible's and hopefully don't have any problems with it.

:)

I have a data plan with my company's Microsoft Exchange on a WinMo phone (which will be replaced with an Incredible on 4/29 if not sooner.) I use the $30 plan and have had no problems with VZ.

So i was likely given incorrect information, that i didnt need to be on the 45$ data plan for exchange to work, i had a suspicion, but i was only paying 35 for it anyway cause of a discount, so never thought it was worth switching...

but back to my original question, what would one need the extra 15$ in the data plan for? for someone using gmail for contacts, calendar, email, etc...will everything still be pushed and synced like it is now with gmail sync?

Stopped by the local VZW corporate store and inquired about the demo unit. At first the sales rep played dumb and told me "Oh, I dont think we have the launch kit yet". Then I started telling HIM all about the specs and how much I was looking forward to the phone and just wanted to hold the thing. The rep, and the manager behind the counter, exchanged glances and then the manager disappeared to the back. She came out a minute later and motioned for me to come over to a podium away from the front window....and....drum roll please...she placed it on the podium and said "Well, here you go, hold it!" I looked at my wife and she rolled her eyes at my cheek to cheek grin.

It was covered in smudges, obviously from everyone playing with it in the back room. I wiped in clean and to be honest, looking at it from a book reading distance th "dots" were not at all discernable. It had the red squiggly active background and since it was not activated yet I could not browse the web to check the speed. I loved the keyboard but am indifferent about the haptic feedback. I tried the voice to text and tried "I like to eat peanut butter on pillows" and it spit out "I like to eat peanut butter on toast" The manager thought it was cool that it assumed what I MEANT to say and not what I said verbatum.

She also told me that the red color under the battery will be an optional color for the battery cover as opposed to only all black.

When I asked if I could take a picture of it she politely, yet VERY matter of factly, told me "No I can't let you do that" and took it from my hand. I guess I went a bit too far with my sneak peak.

Anyway, IT WAS AWESOME NONE THE LESS!!

I think it is just a way to nickle and dime their corporate customers for a little more... If what the poster says is true about the $30 plan working fine with exchange. I too have been on a discounted $45 plan...

and... your impressions of the device?:) c'mon give us somethin! haha

It seems longer and wider than the Droid Eris but not as thick or heavy. The protective plastic cover on the face has labels for the buttons - what a great idea! The volume up/down rocker switch looks to be easier to operate than the Eris's, which was somewhat recessed. The back cover isn't ugly but it feels a little flimsy and bendable. The inside plastic is a bright orange, as is the battery. The colors match perfectly when the battery is inserted. The camera lens has a green color down inside it for some reason. The two flash LEDs beside it make it look kind of cool and high tech. The first powerup sequence took about 30 seconds and the battery was at half strength. You have to dial the activation phone number from another phone. It asked for my 10-digit phone number and the last 4 digits of my Social Security number. It asked me to press 1 if my order number was...and read it off correctly. It asked me to press 1 if I agreed to a 2-year contract and a $350 penalty for early withdrawal. It asked me to press 1 if I wanted to activate it now. It gave me instructions for what to dial on the new phone to get it activated. First screen that showed up when I ended the screen saver asked me to select English or Spanish. The next screen said "You need to make a special call to activate your phone service. After pressing Activate, listen to the instructions provided to activate your phone." I pressed the Activate button and it dialed a number (*228) and asked me to press 1 to activate the phone. I did, and the display said programming was in progress. Then the voice said that programming was complete, the call hung up, and the display said the phone would reset in 5 seconds. It restarted/rebooted and I was up and running.

The first screen when starting the phone again asked me to select English or Spanish. The second screen asked if I wanted to see a demo of interactive typing or whatever it is that thinks it knows what you're trying to spell, same setup as the Eris keyboard so I skipped it. The screen saver time seems to be very short on this, and when the screen blacks out I pressed the "Power/Lock" button on top of the phone to get the screen to light up again. The next setup screen asked if I wanted my Internet connection to be "Mobile network or Wi-Fi" or "Wi-Fi only (Don't have a data plan? Choose this one." Now that is cool! Next it detected my home Wi-Fi network and asked if I wanted to connect to it (with the connect box checked by default). I let it connect and it detected 4 wifi sources in range (couldn't get the onscreen keyboard into landscape mode for this step). I like the keyboard setup, same as the Eris, so when you tap a key you see the letter/number displayed in a large window momentarily and the phone vibrates for a fraction of a second to confirm the keystroke. The connection worked fine. The next screen asked for Location Consent to turn on Google's location service. I said okay fine so maybe I could locate the phone if someone stole it. Next it asked if I wanted to set up mail, contacts, and calendar accounts. Choices were Backup Assistant, Google account, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, and Other mail account. I chose Google account and it opened another application that let me set one up or register an existing one. I see that this keyboard has the period to the right of the keyboard and the comma to the left, like the Eris, and also that the comma key has the "@" key as a second function. Next it asked if I wanted to set up social networks - Facebook, Flickr, Twitter. Twitter uses "HTC Peep" so I set that up. No problems there.

That was it for setup. The home screen has a display I didn't see on the Eris that says "Press the Home button or pinch to zoom out to thumbnail view." This is something different. You can either scroll left and right to see the seven individual pages, or hit Home to put thumbnails of all seven pages on one screen. Nice. The trackpad or whatever it's called has a pushbutton in the center of it. It looks like that and the volume up/down rocker and the Power/Lock button are the only three mechanical buttons on the phone (I wondered what would happen to the Eris's trackball after a year or two exposure to cat hair).

I don't know if it's the dry Arizona air, but just by moving the phone around in my hand I accidentally activated the camera, the Android Market application, and the Add to Home screen. I hope that settles down, or I will need to be very careful with moving my hand around on the case of the phone while pressing onscreen buttons.

The phone has the same tiny event notification icons at the very top of the home screen. You can drag down from there to open the Notifications window and see what the icons mean. I had about 8 of them lined up on the Eris one day before I realized I could acknowledge the email messages and "program installation complete" messages and the icons would go away. The weather report on the Home screen says "Mostly cloudy," and when you first "pull down the shade" to see the Home screen after it's been off, a nice animation of drifting clouds goes across the screen once.

The AC plug is a "wall wart" type device, but the USB cable plugs into the top of it rather than the side, so it doesn't come out at a weird angle from your outlet strip.

Anyway, my fingers are tired so I hope that helped whet some appetites and let you know what to expect when you receive your phones in about a week. When you really think about it, that's not very long at all in cosmic terms.

BUMPED

For all that pre-ordered and used a CC. Did Verizon charge your CC $1.00 for the pre-order? Or do they wait to charge you anything until the phone ships?

Thanks, especially for the weather scene at the beginning, cant wait to see that in action in the rain/thunderstorms. wish it wasnt april so i could see it in the snow/cold...oh well.

Bite your tongue. I for one am Mr Heat Miser and hope never ever ever to see that snow/cold/freezing screen.

You my friend are Mr Snow.

I'm from NYC as well, but go to school up in Binghamton. (For another couple of weeks until i graduate. Then looking for a job in the tech industry, something entry level, with an ultimate goal of a career in product development. Anyone know of anyone hiring?...shameless plug)

The weather up here is crazy, so i might see that cold screen some morning for all i know, but i am a skier, so the cold doesnt bother me, as long as its in its season...I'll welcome the warm weather too. Especially when i get back to the city.

so this is a stupid question but can you use your computer to charge this phone?

Sorry if this was already answered. I'm behind in my reading. Got this straight from the leaked manual:

Connecting your phone to a computer
Whenever you connect your phone to a computer using the USB cable, the Connect to PC dialog box displays and prompts you to choose the type of USB connection. Select one of the following choices, and then tap Done:

Charge only
Select this mode if you only want to charge the phone

Good luck on the job in the tech industry. I've been out of work for a year. I design and manage networks.

Stay in school as long as possible. Add a major. Then add another. Think graduate school. Maybe some post work.

One, any news of extended batteries? Im looking to get the 1700 or whatever so i dont need another backing.

Dude. That's one SERIOUSLY detailed post ;)

any word on accessories like the extended battery? I hope its available on launch day at verizon or BB.

With my stupid storm 1 I have to go to VZW to get my contacts switched over. Storm's cant upload contacts to vzw, I guess I could download them to my computer in a file format the D.I. would recongize. But, I am lazy lol. Hoping that when I go to VZW they will have the extended battery

So, any news on batteries and release time frame?

I'm not sure what you use to manage or organize your contacts. I primary use Outlook. I went from a Storm I to an Eris. All I did was export my contacts from Outlook to my Gmail acct. and the phone sync-ed? My contacts seemlessly.
I now use Gmail as my primary contact "manager" and every week or so import any changes from my Gmail Contacts to Outlook.

How does this site have a "full body protector" before Zagg's own website--and at a cheaper price than the Zagg screen protector?

Doesn't look too good for them:
cheapdroids.com is a fraud? - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

If you buy from Zagg, use the discount code ZAGG20 to receive 20% off of their price. Basically, it covers the shipping. Hope that helps.

I've used their products for a few years. The orange peel is (was) there, but it never really bothered me - the things are VERY durable.

For anyone who has the Incredible already such as Anonimac, would it be possible to download the free app yxflash and show us how well it plays back xvid and divx? As well as what the max resolution could be?

Not that any of us would ever "download" movie files to put on it. Never.
