Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I just watched a video speed testing AT&T and Sprint. 3G speeds AT&T was a 1/3rd slower. AT&T 533kbs vs Sprint 881kbs. I think the city is Baltimore and then they tested 4G speed and 6.6mbs dwn/2.2mbs up whaaat! I could imagine an EVO and Iphone speed test after pwnage. Evo says "ah little buddy I got Hotspot enabled on my phone, maybe this might help" Saweet!
P.S. the speed test was posted earlier on this thread.

I know everyone is focusing on eieio right now and his/her 4g information (I really appreciate all of is btw), but I just want to give my quick opinion about why Sprint online reps might be saying the release date is in May.

I figure that with the originally intended media blitz day being April 16th, the phone release date was supposed to be in mid to late May, which was possibly told to Sprint employees, hence them saying so. However, according to Self Praise, Jackson, whoever else (if I'm forgetting someone I do apologize) the internal aspects of the phone are still being worked on (therefore seemingly being behind the original schedule), this seems to have in turn pushed off the media blitz to May 12th (hopefully) it's likely that the date is NOW going to be in June, which Sprint reps don't appear to have been told.

I don't pretend to be any insider, and none of what I have stated is confirmed (including, as far as I know the bits quoted from SP and Jackson, though I am inclined to believe them), I am merely stating my opinion, for the benefit of all you lucky readers. ;)

The towers have wimax equipment on them and r owned by towerco

Well...very cool! So if someone can verify their range...I will know with much more certainty if I will have coverage at home. It's all gravy baby!

Wow....too bad the guys in the Incredible forum wouldn't listen when I went back about a month ago to try to get them open minded enough to take a look at the EVO 4G. Oh well....we'll be glad we waited...I'm more stoked by the minute. This is a VERY difficult wait. Gonna break for dinner. Great group here....thanks!

I've been gone all day and there are about 7 new pages for me to catch up on. Anyway, I was thinking as I was in the car about the release date of the EVO and this is what I came up with. Sprint should release this phone between the 27th of May and the June 6th date. My reasoning? The Incredible is set to be released on the 29th of April. The 27th will fall within that 30 day window that someone can return the Incredible to switch to the Evo. Granted, the Incredible came to market first BUT with HTC and some good marketing after it is released, the Evo can be introduced to the general public and not tech geeks like those of us that troll through the forums. This would give some separation between the release of 2 competitive phones this summer. One from the marketing machine of VZW and the other with all the Apple Iphone brainwashed devotees. Now back to page 118 to catch up on the news of today.

Wow what an exciting evening this has been. I got to head off for the night. Catch you all on the flip side tomorrow. Tc

I'm surprised there isn't more in Tallahassee, but towerco is showing two locations so far: TowerCo

I saw that when it was first posted a while back, so it gave me hope, but so far I have not heard even a single rumor of Tallahassee getting 4G, so I'm not entirely sure what to think.

It would certainly make sense since we have a lot of colleges/universities here, as well as a good bit of government.

Btw, I've been to Tampa before, nice place, but I hated navigating the downtown area, hehe. (But personally I tend to dislike downtown in most cities because of all the traffic and one-way streets)

If u see a few wimax towers in that area they are probably testing but haven't announced it

I'm liking how this thread now seems to get more info than big tech sites like Gizmodo or Engadget, thanks to people like Jackson, Self Praise, eioio. (Maybe I missed someone)

It's neat. It'll be great when the EVO actually launches and we have all sorts of threads ranging from favorite apps, rooting your phone, video conferencing, etc. :)

I almost went to college in Tallahassee. It's a very nice city. I actually live in the burbs away from the city where it's quite and there's no congestion.

I have to believe you'll be getting WiMAX sooner than later.

With my 100th post I want to know who thinks the EVO would be a good phone to get my parents?? Do you think that would make me their favorite child? :D

Of course. Go for it! Unless they don't like technical stuff and they're afraid of computers. Then no, save your money.

I think the screen is big enough so they wouldn't have any problems seeing it.. :p They would be a lot better than those vzw phones they have now!!

Thank you. I will remember that when I get my evo. Evo will be my first android phone. I currently have the pre.

If I did not aleady have an android phone I would be getting a hero on May 6th or 13th. well maybe the 7th or 14th, to get accoustomed to Android, then return it with the new Sprint 30 day trial offer just in time to get the EVO.

does that site ever stop loading after you put your state in?! it's been going for 5 minutes now!

however, i can scroll down to the 1st page while it's loading, and i see that the town i'm in has a tower. how certain are we that results on that site = wimax?
Something like 100% WiMAX, but they're not all owned by Sprint, so there's some confusion. Maybe someone else can give us a better answer.

Unless they live in a rural area. If they do, they might be better off where they are.
