Help Phone locking up when asleep, requiring battery pull?

hawken50

Newbie
Had my new C811 for 2 days now. This evening I turned on the pedometer and went for a walk. Tried to check my progress 30 minutes later and it wouldn't wake up. Had to pull the battery. Since then I've left the pedometer alone, but it's done the same thing 3 more times. I'm not rooted and the only apps i've installed came from the play store, and they are the same apps i've had on my C711. I see on the verizon forum of others having the same problem, but no explanation or solution. Anyone have any insight?

Thanks

I've had mine activated for about 3 hours now. A couple of times it has locked up when plugged in, requiring a battery pull. When it "locks up", if I unplug the charger,I get a few controls on the screen but that's it. Can't do anything until I pull the battery and the phone reboots.

So I left it on the charger all night, and this morning, the phone was completely dead... it required a battery pull. A few minutes ago, I saw another failure mode: I hit the power button to wake the phone up, and I did get the lock screen, but it was not responsive - the unlock button did not flash like it usually does, and nothing happened when I hit the unlock button.

I really want to like this phone but it's becoming VERY annoying.

Ok, this is what I've done since I posted. I disabled all the G'zone apps, and reenabled the verizon apps such as my verizon mobile. I then did a check for android updates. I got a "downloading" message, but i'm not sure if it actually installed anything. Haven't had anymore lockups since I did that. Not sure if I fixed it or not, and if i did I dont know what exactly did it, but it's working well for now.

I had the same problem. I tried everything. Disabling apps, factory reset, different battery. In the end, I called Verizon and they exchanged it for a different one (that happened to be new). It had an earlier serial number than my original one. NO MORE LOCK UPS!!!!! That makes me think it is a hardware problem on some phones.

I re-enables the gzone apps and its still stable. No lockups. I believe the update fixed it. Will update this thread if I learn anything else.

ive had no lockups, except under extreme use. id bet my money on bunk devices... ive rooted and removed say 30 or so apps from the stock image, and haad no unexplanable lockups. been on it about a month+week

the gzone apps are notoriously unstable... dont mess with glove mode.. lol

I got my phone a few days ago. Every morning I have had to do a battery pull to get it to boot back up. I'm not rooted at all. Disabled a few applications that I would not use. Works fine during the day. Only thing I can think to try is disabling the alarm I have for 06:00.

I've had mine for a few days now and have not had to do a battery pull. Hopefully I got a "good'un".

I've had it temporarily freeze a few times, but I think it was related to the app I was using more than the phone itself.

I haven't yet tried to play with "crash mode" yet, we'll see.

By the way, I've disabled almost all the bloatware on the phone, and continue to do so, through the app manager. I'll disable a few more once I decide what gets the ax.

I think disabling the bloatware makes a big difference.

them gzone apps are running ALOT even if you arent using them, check out the developer tab under options, select show cpu, and see whats really going on while you're "idle" at the home screen

Well, still locked up on my last night, and had to do a battery pull. Also, I started getting a bunch of random text messages from 6250 what say VZWNMN:1. Sometimes the 1 will change to a different number. Strange....

I read somewhere that when you first get the phone you must wear the battery down to like 5 or 10% and then do a complete battery charge until it says to disconnect charger. I guess the batteries are super sensitive....it did the same thing for me with the freezing up thing....hasn't done it since Ive done a complete discharge and charge of the battery

Thanks craiger325i. Mine didn't freeze up on me last night. I woke up around 01:00 and noticed it had not froze yet. Figured I would try un-plugging it from the charger and seeing if it froze when it was not on it. Well, it didn't. So going along with what you are saying, I may let it die today, then fully charge over night and see if it is good to go now. I really don't want to exchange the phone for a new one. Pain to set it up as I like again.

After a month and a half, my phone started doing this crap. Had to do a battery pull several times over the past week, and this morning it completely crapped on me. Battery pull doesn't work. Charger won't show on the screen. Had 3/4 of a full battery last night.

I use the phone as an alarm clock, thankfully my wife woke me up only a few minutes later than usual. I work a bit of a crazy schedule, and pathetic Verizon doesn't have technical support before 6AM (I call b.s., they just have the time zones partitioned off so that you don't have it in your zone before 6AM). Would have been nice to maybe find a tech that could get the phone going, I needed it today.

Going to Verizon this evening to see if they will swap it out.

Spoke with a Verizon tech rep this afternoon who is sending me a warranty replacement for my Commando 4G.

He said that it's a software problem and that "a software update is in the works" which he wasn't able to elaborate on, said it's Casio's chicken to fry basically.... and Casio doesn't do many updates at all, so he really didn't know anything else.

I had no problems whatsoever getting it replaced over the phone but my rep actually a very reasonable individual. That's not always the case.

IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM (having to do a battery pull to turn it on), DO NOT tolerate this. Call and be respectfully firm that you should not have to tolerate an untrustworthy phone.

I just purchased this phone a little over a week ago, and am seeing the same issue right out of the box. I have disabled every application that is not needed, with exception to the out of box gzone apps.

Seems to freeze randomly during the sleep cycle, causing the phone not to wake, and battery having to be pulled to get phone to turn back on.

Anyone have any resolve for this so i do not have to trade the phone in on new same and have the same issues again?
"trying to save a trip to the verizon store."

Try disabling all Gzone apps. I have all but the barometer and temp disabled on my replacement phone, had it for a couple weeks. So far, no freezes.

Thanks, i disabled all the gzone apps and bloatware apps, it is still freezing during sleep and having to have the battery removed to start again.

A fix for this 500.00 phone would be really nice.

I tried everything, and had no luck. It will need to be replaced.

You guys need to press Verizon on this. When you do the warranty swap on it, make it very clear to them that you are not interested in having multiple replacements of the same phone, over and over, for the same problem.

I did this and got a guarantee from them that if it happened again that I could get a different model. Although honestly I prefer this phone for it's durability, I hope that I don't need to take them up on it.

My commando has just started doing the same. The last two days the battery needed pulled to get it to wake up or power on.

Maybe some success....
I went under settings / system / developer options and checked "stay awake". My phone was NOT locked up this morning and I did not have to pull the battery.

@JKH62, that's not normal. I've had android from the very beginning and I've never had to do anything special to keep one from locking up while charging. It's under warranty, send it back.
