Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

This waiting for some news is killing me. I was looking at the contest rules for the ten lucky people who will receive the EVO first and noticed that the blogging is scheduled to end on 8/31/10. That date concerns me that the release could be after that, I hope not. I know Bill got beat up yesterday for saying a possible late summer release but this date is concerning.

there is a big difference between the evo and the tp2. the tp2 is a corp class phone that was marketed for big corps where as the evo is the mainline phone. that prbly why its missing the gsm slot. if they make this phone 350 then no way are people gonna switch from iphone or verizon even if its a kick a** phone. if its 200 ill keep my 3rd line open and get 2 of them just for the heck of it basically a backup or one with stock ruu and the other with unoffical roms.

Almost all of the rumors are saying late May, early June, so I'm going with that now. I didn't like getting beat up for suggesting mid-summer. :o

The way Sprint has been charging the past few years for their "feature" phones makes me think they're going to want at least 250, and maybe 300 or 350 for the EVO. Let's be serious. They want 200 for the Blackberry coming out the end of next month. RIGHT before the EVO. And that is hardly packing the features the EVO is. Sure Android is cheaper, HTC makes discount phones, blah blah. Sprint KNOWS they can charge more for it. They charged 350 for the Touch Pro. 300 for the Touch Diamond. 200 for the tiny plastic feeling Pre. The EVO is packing the biggest screen ever. The ONLY 4G radio on the market. The fastest processor, most RAM, and they're including an 8 gb memory card. How could they NOT charge 300?

I don't want to sound negative, but people might want to assume they're going to spend at least $250 after discount/rebates.

Sprint has said that this phone will be priced "very aggressively". I'm taking that as $199 after discounts/rebate until proven otherwise. :)

o and on the front for trying to find a micro hdmi i worked in the electrical and multimedia supply industry for a little over 4 years and i contacted every major vendor of hdmi cables in the us and they dont have them...

Hey everyone, I just want to clear a few things up.

All of us here are welcoming to anyone who wants to contribute to this thread. Infact we want to know everyone even those lurking because it helps us understand who our "audience" is. What pisses me off though is when someone just chimes in on their first post and says we're getting off topic go talk about this somewhere else. That will not be responded to well ehre, atleast not by me. I treat you all like a family, and hey if you want to share something exciting taht happened to you, or an experience you had with the "Evo", or a basketball score tide into a post go for it. I'm not saying go crazy off topic TS would kill me for that, but remember we are a social community not a bunch of robots yeah?

Now if the phone does really sell for $199 it will be a Godsend. I'm not saying it won;t happen, because it would be in Sprint's best interest to do this, but heck to buy this phone outright is going to cost you somewhere in the $800 range sp Sprint is going to be shelling out alot for customers. Don't be dissapointed if its more around $250 though because thats a little more of reality, atleast right now.

As far as 4G stuff stuff goes. The will not be charging extra for 4G at this time. Dan was part of the meeting and he said that was the overall concensus. And it makes sense, atleast at this time it does.

There will be no cap for 4G, its unlimited. There will also be browsing and calling at the same time. This however is only when your on a 4G connection. They have looked into being able to do this with wifi but i have not been updated on how that testing is going. There will also be a VOiP app. How cool is that?! We heard rumors about this as far back as the rumored google phone which turned out to be the Nexus and its finally hear! It will be through a third party developer, most likely google voice.

So while i say to keep it clean, there is no reason for us to not have fun on this thread. If you have a problem with it please just go whine elsewhere, because during times of slow news people get anxious and just begin to speculate. It's what happens.

I love you guys though. You should all know that =]

I know this is wishful thinking, but that could mean $149-179. They could do a promotion for the first 30-60 days and market at this price.

Thanks! I'm not worried just give it time, it's a standard cable. No product is yet shipping with micro HDMI anyway, Monoprice will have one soon enough.

Taking a cue from Jackson, this might be a bit off-topic, but still great to look at...

Gizmo editor's house was raided by the cops because of the "stolen iPhone".. Check out the link at Engadget.

I personally think Apple is behind all of it...LOL. What better way to step up their marketing than to have some "criminal" activity going on where a prototype phone is "stolen" and then the images appear magically on the internet. Not only does that end up on tech websites, but regular "news" as well?

OK Guys - we're family, blah blah blah. LOL

I'm not trying to be a smart-a$$, and I don't think I'm a dumb-a$$ either.

I don't understand the advantage of a VoIP app. Is it, if you are no where near "The Network", but have internet, you can still make phone calls?

As of right now i just know that it will be more tahn the incredible. I have heard a numer of 10 gigabytes for internal storage though.

VOiP is amazing. It allows you to make calls directly over the internet, thereby no wasting you ur minutes and if you in an area with bad reception with wifi you can hook riht up to that for a perfect connection

Well I hope that the EVO does not drop on a Sunday. For whatever reason, both of my local Sprint Stores are closed on Sundays. So heres for a Saturday release!
My sprint store is also closed on Sunday. So why not on a Friday? Why dose it have to be on the weekend.. LOL

I think you really need 4G to be able to use VoIP effectively. I'm pretty sure it would be too choppy in 3G. Back when the Nexus One first came out, they said you'd be able to use VoIP if you have a WiFi connection and it wouldn't go against your minutes.

Last November, Google bought Gizmo5, a VoIP company and all the talk for awhile was about Google Voice and VoIP. Technically, if you're always in a 4G or WiFi environment, you wouldn't need a voice plan - just data. Of course Sprint's plans cover both, but I think that is part of what eieio was talking about earlier "The voice situation will be interesting though to see if that works".

I can see a lot of possibilities for VoIP on the EVO. For my home phone service, that's what I use and I've saved a lot of money and you'd never know it wasn't a normal land line.

Nice gave me a chuckle. One thing we might have to watch is whether the phone will automatically switch to 3G if a 4G signal drops, because say you watch alot of movies over Hulu for example (once flash drops of course). You can easily go over that cap just by watching a few movies, and you might not even notice you're actually getting this over 3G because the player is in fullscreen mode next thing you know your paying a 600 dollar phone bill at $50 extra per additional gig of use. OUCH!
That is only when u used the phone in 3g as a hotspot not for internet use on the phone itself.

i think whats more important to sprint than 50 bucks a phone is making the price 200 or less so it retains and attracts new customers. 250-300 isn't going to do that. which is also why they always include a mail in rebate, because it allows them to advertise the low price, but then not everybody sends it in, so the effective price for sprint becomes closer to 250
