Random Thought Thread

Is it okay when I post my random thought amidst your conversation here? :o

If I click my heels, can I start this weekend over again?

Those things are so hard to fly... My Dad got me one, I can't keep it in the air for 10 seconds. I crashed it, and now it's broken, and I can't fix it.

I got my wee lad an indoor remote control helicopter (or as he called it a "hoddydocker") for his birthday last year. He got over excited when we were setting it up and tried to pick it up just as I was spinning up the blades. They were only flimsy plastic things, but he got such a fright, he told me he never wanted to play with it again. :(

Might be better off getting an R/C car or SUV. Much easier to handle I found. Like the helicopters they're plentiful and quite low cost. At equivalent of like $10-15 each, as many of them seem to be, don't think they're really meant to be fixed. I had a cheap R/C chopper for few weeks, couldn't fly it very well, but I did find it could stand up to quite a bit of abuse and was surprisingly robust. Like flying it into a wall..LOL. I passed it onto the neighbour in the end.

Think you have to be careful about model helicopters and your little ones. I know the rotors do go round extremely fast and could be rather dangerous, even though they are only flimsy plastic. R/C cars probably ok and quite safe.

Random impulse I popped into the local toy shop on the way home, where they have dozens of these things, they're all labelled as being suitable for "14+". Basically not recommended for toddlers or wee ones. ;) The R/C cars didn't appear to have any age warning at all. They probably don't make very good toys for cats to play with either, unlike laser pointers or Roombas or whatever. :D

EDIT... looking closer, looks like there's a warning printed on the blades as well. This is China, but I'm sure the UK and US has similar toy safety notice regulations.

One of my friends son has been playing with an RC chopper since he was about 5, with supervision. He shied away, off and on, for a while. He's pushing 12, has several, and still has all of his parts working.

Pretty sure that EP read everything and knew what he was doing. ;)

yea probably not best for young kids but all of my "little cousins" are 10-15 so they'll probably be fine...and they are indeed difficult to fly but oh well they're still cool..and can definitely take a lot of abuse

Still amazes me somewhat, is how they can do them for the price, they are fairly complex mechanically and electronically, and quite well engineered IMO. It's really lithium batteries and tiny high performance motors that made them possible as a cheap toy. The two I posted were equivalent of $20 each. That's retail from a brick'n'mortar toy shop. The wholesale is less than $10.

BTW this one looks interesting $22 on Amazon... A Chinook. ...it's probably shipped directly from China.

I think the Martians on MARS saw this crazy thing.

After almost hitting Alpha Centauri in the next star system I was STRUGGLING to see this soon to be ground pie helicopter... so after killing the throttle.... :D:D:D it came down like it had won the lotto!

True story!

I'm freezing my nuts off.
'Course ya are! Just like any other Texan. Right now, I'm traveling to Albuquerque, and it's cold. Cold like I haven't seen before. Since we don't get snow much down here in Houston, it's cold.
