I voted nope but I joined the t-mobile contest anyway. I'll take a free Android phone anytime but I'm not really sold on that button configuration LG is using.

It just takes a little to get use to is all. I was the same way when I first got my g2, took maybe a week to get use to. Now that's how I prefer it as its more easier for me (depending how I'm holding the device)

I'd be more inclined to buy a G2 than a G3. The G2 is already iffy in terms of size and weight, so larger than that would likely be a deal breaker for me.

Also, can someone explain to me why a removable battery is so important to some people?

If you have a long travel day it's nice being able to have very heavy usage on your phone without your phone dying. You just swap the battery and you're back to 100%.

I do agree, however, that the G2 seems like a better deal than the G3 especially since it will drop in price like a rock once this one hits the market.

The G2's hardware is just... too good to really rule it out of consideration. It isn't a S600-era device like the One M7 or S4.

If the camera optics are the same (barring the laser and Ambed LED Flash), then that's even less reason to bother with the G3 IMO.

I think G2/Note 3 users have it hardest when it comes to considering these recently released/announced devices as upgrades. Their hardware makes it hard to be wowed by these devices.

I do think the 5.5" screen is a bit risky, though.

If I get rid of my note, it will be for something usable with one hand, which this phone isn't (not for my small hands). 5-5.1" seems to be the sweet spot regarding that.

I personally won't get the G2 because I don't like the way the software looks. LG's UI is probably the messiest of the major OEMs.

Most of the above is gibberish to me, so I'm guessing storage is a non-issue for me for any modern phone. Is this "ram" you speak related to speed of the phone in any way?

If Google releases an update that makes ART the default, then this phone will lose about 20% of storage because ART requires more App Storage (Compiled Code vs Bytecode) compared to Dalvik. Additionally, Apps are large, Apps can create large data caches (no one likes to live in Settings Clearing Caches), and games have huge amounts of data that they install.

If you have very simple uses for the device, therefore requiring less usable storage, that's fine. But it's a big deal and it's part of the reason why Google Moved to a Unified Storage model (instead of separate App and Data Partitions). Additionally, App to SD usually leaves more App Data on the Internal Storage than on the SD Card (moves so little that it isn't worth using in many cases) and SD Cards can be finicky, fail randomly, give issues, require formatting, etc.

The RAM certainly has performance implications.

3GB RAM simply allows you to never really have to worry about RAM on your device, while a 2GB device will still swap processes out more due to RAM Exhaustion in some instances. You're looking at a whole 1GB of RAM usable on the device over those devices.

A 2GB device usually only have about 1.7GB RAM usable to the system. A 3GB device will have about 2.7GB RAM Usable. This has clear implications in gaming (and even more on a device like this, if the games are eventually optimized for that screen resolution the assets it requires will be much larger than on a 1080p device) as well as multi-tasking some applications like web browsers which can use a lot of RAM with multiple tabs open.

Voted No, because it likely won't launch in the US for another month or so on Verizon, and by that time I likely won't have the itch for it anymore. I'm already largely over it, TBQH, since these new devices are all pretty meager upgrades over the late 2013 flagships like the Note 3 or G2. That's actually a good thing, though, cause it means there is less push to upgrade. At this point trying out other Operating Systems seems like a more intelligent use of funds than a small upgrade in hardware (at these prices) in the same ecosystem.

Bah!

The G3 rocks if it has FM radio. Frequency Modulation rules!! :) Well, that and 3/32 to rock.

Besides, as long as Samsung locks their phones down with Verizon, I will never buy another, since will need write permissions for external storage. My litmus from this point on is if the device can be rooted to allow write permissions. How frickin' sad is that? Google sux butt.

The SD Card issues on Samsung Phones are a non-factor with their Stock File Manager, unless you're a root user.

And I don't think OEMs should be making their phones easy to exploit to satisfy those users. I want the phone bulletproof, because I care about security and data privacy.

I voted holding off but looks like I will pass on it. G2 is still going strong for me and I don't feel it lacking anything yet. For others, I'm sure G3 would be very nice.

I dont mind getting this phone .. BUT .. I dont like back firing speaker!

I am going to wait for the Note 4. I hope the speaker is side firing or even put to the front.

At least it put price pressure on Samsung.

Seems like LG is quicker than Samsung.

Poor HTC is falling behind!

Well they're ahead in Tech Press cheerleading so they may do just fine even with the crappy camera on their phone.

A great example on how to ruin an almost-flawless handset.

Another example of how you kids have such different priorities in a phone. A camera? I could give a damn about the camera. It's nice it use once in a while, sure, but it hardly needs to be particularly good.

What's funny to me is that a couple of decades back, few young people cared about much cameras or carried them around with them. Maybe they'd bring a simple instamatic on a vacation or for a special occasison, but that was it. There were a full camera buffs out there, sure, but the vast majority of people hardly ever thought about them or had one handy.

But now? So many of you feel it's a must have, something that's on you at all times, and not only that, it must be a camera of high quality too.

I'm not a kid.

Have a nice day.

You're over 40 and obsessing about the quality of your cell phone camera? Why, does your work involve a need to produce high quality photos at any time day or night, and that's why you need a good camera handy at all times?

Stop the ridiculous generalizations and name calling. That's the only juvenile thing I see in this thread.

I'm not answering any questions cause you aren't worth the time.

Have a nice day. I was serious the first time I wrote that.

And that has nothing to do with me lacking a perfectly legitimate reason for not wanting a phone with a bad camera. Just throwing that out there before I get a template spam reply.

I wouldn't want to answer questions either if I knew the answers weren't going to help my case.

Nothing wrong with wanting a phone to do everything possible under the sun, and to do so expertly. Hell, I wish my phone could fly and do laundry. But when it comes to important features, those, like excellent camera, are low on the list of priorities for anyone who's not in the flying, laundry, or photography business.

How predictable.

You get answers when you communicate like an adult and not an forum troll.

Sounds like you're drinking some Kool aid. What security/privacy have you enhanced, pray tell?

The ones you use to exploit the phone and do the tinker things you like to do. The same exploits that malicious apps can use, theoretically.

Unless you guys have found a switch in settings to enable su access among other things. Pray tell?

Will see. Some of you kids lack self-control.

Because it's been about six years since I have had to plug in a smartphone to charge it. Pretty killer feature, eh?

So you're charging your spare batteries instead and then swapping them in and out, and this is somehow more convenient than just charging the phone each night or whatever, or am I missing something here?

I haven't voted, cause I'm not certain, but I think I'm going to give it a miss. I was eligable for my upgrade 3 weeks ago and have been holding off waiting for the G3's release.

I've been following the pre-release thread, with all the "predicted" specs and can't help but feel disappointed.

It all started so well, 805 processor, 3GB ram, 32GB storage etc etc

I can live with the 801, I'm not a gamer, but the 805 would have been nice. According to the LG UK web site it only lists the 2/16, so I guess that's what we're getting here:mad:. Again I can probably live with that but was hoping for something to sway me from getting the GS5.

The QHD screen looks fantastic but so is the screen on the GS5 and I can't help thinking the battery will suffer very slightly with only having the 801.

Don't get me wrong, this is a stunning looking phone but LG missed the mark, it could have been THE best phone currently available, but no USB3, no water/dust resistance.

But the big one for me is it's not available in the UK for about another 5 weeks, really ???.

The GS5 & M8 primes will probably both be out around that time just to confuse me even more:confused:. And by all accounts they will both have QHD screens with the 805.

Getting way to old to be bothered about getting the latest & greatest. May just get the GS5 this weekend and be done with it

Then again the Note 4 will be out in a few months ;);):mad::mad::mad:

No 805, Odin, Mediatek 6595, or any SoC superior to the 801.
Therefore - no sale.

As such, I wash my hands of 32-bit and will go to the next level.

S5 and M8 primes be damned! Get it right the first time!

I shall wait till 2015 in order to buy a phone with a 64-bit SoC.

I will give LG first dibbs because I love their design language (rear-mounted controls in particular).

P.S. - The G3 is a sexy beast; too bad LG failed to fulfill my sole criterion.
