Root

Drakath

Newbie
I am thinking about rooting my GS2. I have Odin3 v3.04, but I'm not sure what Insecure/Original Kernel should I use.

This is the Kernel information:
3.0.31 - 1156082
dpi@DELL175 #3
SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 22 16:13:38
KST 2013

So can anyone tell me what Insecure/Original Kernel should I use?

What carrier on you on? That will help us move this to the proper galaxy s2 root forum, where others with your device can help

Where do you live Drakath?
I don't wanna be that guy but I think for your own good you should spend a day researching this stuff.
RX or DS. Is there a glossary on here with all the terminology?
No offence OP but if you don't know the basics you're gonna end up in a very long frustrating thread before we get you rooted.

Rooting isn't supposed to be a simple thing but it doesn't have to be hard if you do some research

Drakath, take a gander through these threads.

As the others have mentioned, nearly everything about the rooting process is device specific, down to the model and what company provides your service.

To go forward we need that information to make sure you don't end up with a couple hundred dollar paper weight

Correct, probably the best advice as can give you now is take a few steps back.

Read, read and read some more to learn exactly what rooting is, the advantages and disadvantages.

Do you have a particular reason to root?

Oh, you were talking about the network. It is: "Tele2 LT" from Lithuania. I have more than one reason to root my phone.
I have also read your given threads and I have a few questions now. I read that if I root my phone it will become more vulnerable to viruses. I'm using Clean Master - Free Optimizer antivirus. Is this antivirus effective? Also, I read that my phone can break if something goes wrong. Can I make some kind of backup so I don't end up with this?

Research research research. If you wanna do a back up you can do a nanobackup.

How can I make a nano backup if my phone is not rooted? I'm thinking about Helium app but I read that phone can be stuck at booting if something goes wrong, so how would I restore everything if that happens?

I don't think you understand what I want. I want to make a backup in case there would be a failure while rooting. If I root my phone successfully I will no longer require any backups.

Being non root, the only backups you can make is apps, pics, contacts etc via helium, my backup etc.

You need root to make a nandroid backup (snapshot of your Android os)

To your virus post, wherever you read that root exposes you to a virus, is completely and utterly false. The only reason to even use an anti virus on Android is to take advantage of its lost device feature.

That's why you research and read a few times to understand the root process. IMHO I would leave it be and don't root.

I don't really care if I lose all the data, I just don't want my phone to stop working completely as written in some thread that DragonSlayer95 posted. Can it really happen when rooting?
