Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

*snip*

To add to this, I do believe wimax has the backing of very strong, influential, and wealthy companies including intel, motorola, and samsung. Also, the government has put billions into wimax.

Not to mention Google, Time warner, Comcast, Etc. I find it hard to believe that WiMAX will fall by the wayside.

Touching on what you stated earlier about East coast coverage, that gets me a little excited. I can't wait to get it here in CT.

Back on topic with the EVO. Does anyone foresee an issue with it working with an airave? I have one and my Pre never worked right with it. My Hero works great though.

If i remember correctly, the article that orginally posted that "36% the power.." and 3x the gpu power of the snapdragon was only testing the the gpu of the Galaxy S... not in its entirety.

It was a while back in this thread that those numbers are indicating one thing but in reality it will not be that powerful.

I guess an example would be: I could buy the very best top of the line graphics card for a computer right now and by itself it is the greatest. However, if you put that card into a computer case with 1-1 1/2 year old parts, in actuality it doesn't run as fast as u would assume... I believe the pc term is "bottleneck"

1.2 billion as of now. But I think they will sink more as they roll out services to the rural areas that can't get dsl service

I just read the last 4 pages of this thread and feel like you guys are setting yourselves up for failure by trying to convince yourselves of a May release. That, and everybody is grossly over-exaggerating the impact that Apple has on Sprint.

Well I can't say for sure, but using some logic, both the hero and evo are made from htc and use android os while the Pre is doesn't . I think you should be good

My biggest point against this newfangled May 22 release speculation is this:
Sprint | HTC EVO "Blaze across America with 4G"

So are you telling me they'll select their winners and send them an Evo so they have like 1 extra day of use ahead of the rest of the public? Seriously doubtful...I think they'll use these contest winners to really help pump up their marketing pre-release.

And from their fine print:

The Semi-Finalists will be notified on or about 5/18/2010 by phone, text or email. Semi-Finalists may be required to confirm their acceptance of the Official Rules and their agreement to participate in the Contest within twenty-four (24) hours of being notified. Semi-Finalists may be required to complete and return an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release and any other documents that Sponsor may reasonably require (the "Affidavit/Release") within three (3) days of being notified. If Semi-Finalist fails to sign and return the Affidavit/Release within the required time period, Semi-Finalist may be disqualified and an alternate Semi-Finalist may be selected in their place at the sole discretion of Sponsor.

So by the time the people agree, sign the legal contracts, and get their Evos, it would only be a day or two ahead of the public. Doesn't add up.

The towers go up and they are live. Then it takes awhile to perfect the coverage. they learned from their mistakes. So when a city goes live they need it to be right not half ass coverage..

Since you in the DC VA MD area that area will be one of the best covered area in 30-45 days including on the metro.

That intrigues me. You think Sprint will invest in wiring up other markets' subway systems (particularly here in Philly where AT&T wired up a 3G/GSM network in our subway system)?

Maybe they will help continue the advertising past the release date??

what if.....

on may 12th or whenever that nyc-flipping-wimax-switch date is, is when they suddenly announce that the evo will go on sale IMMEDIATELY?

if all shipments are already in place by then, they could've put a notice to be on sale on may 22, or june 6, or whenever....followed with a "unless further notified".

wouldn't that be sweet?

Yes.. Subways systems and airports.. The places where business people spend the most time waiting..

Verizon allegedly owns coverage in this subway system and sprints 4g works in it

and what if one of the surprises is instead of a 1ghz snapdragon, it has a 2ghz snapdragon? =P

yea, i know this one is a bit far fetched...

I don;t know where you got your fact from the the processor that samsung uses is 3x better because its not. Snap dragons are the biggest and best processors currently on the market. Ask any techie and they'll tell you that. Thats why its such a big selling point.

Jackson

Acually the samsung process is 3x better at handling 3d graphics it is the same processor as used in the ipad. as far as app handling they should be about the same but 3d graphics wise the samsung is better.
Dang this thread moves fast. someone already commented on this above.

The lure of the contest is to get 10 people an Evo ahead of the public, no? Why build the contest this way if that's only a 1 day window. Of course that is possible, but I don't think they'd word things that way if it were the case. The main draw is to get a chance to have an evo before the public - only by digging deeper do you find a free year of service, a blog or your experiences, and a chance to win some serious cash. If the cash was the main point it would be right up front.

At least IMO.

You will own it before the public (i assume) and get to post soon afterwards. commercials and blogs to keep the hype going.

So let me get this straight...They're waiting to release it because they want to make sure that the 4G works just right for the 30 something cities that will be 4G ready so that their will be no complaints from people. So what happens when the several hundred/thousand cities without get the EVO and have those same complaints on a huge scale? I live in south-eastern Wisconsin. 4G would be great right out the gate, but I can do with an early release and just use it on the 3G network!
