must have incredible apps

Anyone know a good SMS app?

Also, is there any way to change what notifications come up in the notification screen at the top?

I really like handcent SMS. you can change the setting if you goto messages->menu->settings. I disabled my sms notification since handcent does it for me.

is there a widget if you have a voicemail it displays like 1, 2, etc. Kind of like with mail & messages. I found one for missed calls (SMS Unread Count) but would like one for voicemail.

also where do the market apps get installed on your phone, what folder exactly.

Ok, this is really dorky, but does anyone know if there's an app for that old nokia phone game snake or whatever. You'd direct your perpetually moving snake around the screen eating blocks that would add to your length and you had to avoid eating any part of your body? I miss that game. Thanks.

Ok, so I should've done the search myself before posting. I've found plenty. Sorry.

Holy crap, how did this thread become such a magnet for spammers? They must google for any thread with "app" in the title on any forum and automatically post their POS wares.

My first app downloads:

google sky
rhapsody (yeah, that's right, i like the new music playlist option)
google earth
google goggles
google voice
shazam
Swype!!!! (been holding on to the beta for a while now)

I didn't think that there was a Google Earth app yet =P

Sorry, I started another thread and forgot about this one.

I went to appbrain and also researched previous threads. Specific to the DI and since some people have had it for over a week now, are there any apps that are a definite need? I'm not talking about Pandora, Google Sky Maps, games, etc. I saw where people where going to get Astro File Manager, Handcent, Dolphin Broswer, etc. but are these really necessary with this particular phone? I just don't want to junk the phone up with a bunch of unnecessary apps when the stock apps/programs can do the job.

Thanks.

Someone already suggested Lookout or Mobile Defense

a must have app for me is "Keep Screen". it allows you to override the default screen timeout settings while using apps of your choice. i use my Incredible to play music in my car pretty much every time i am in my car and it's annoying when the screen times out and your forced to press the power button and then slide to unlock. this simply keeps the screen on, but at minimum brightness. this was actually the first app i downloaded and installed on my Incredible. i tried it on my Droid prior to getting the Incredible and knew it would be an absolute necessity for me.

of course i also need:
Astro
Rhapsody
XiiaLive (formerly DroidLive)
Pandora
Sleep Timer (for falling asleep with music playing)
Quick System Info (for monitoring storage space, checking free memory, logcat, and the occasional app killing, and cache clearing)
FTP Server (file transfers over wifi, i haven't plugged my Inc into my computer yet)
Skyfire Browser (for watching flash videos like South Park)
FeedR (RSS feeds, also includes a widget)

Mp3 Download

I love this app. I have found all but 1 song on there and they are free.
Works great with the default player because you can control it from the lock screen.

I'm looking for an app for a music/mp3 player to use in place of the stock player. Something that allows synicing of playlists I have already built on my PC. Also something that has an equalizer, although the player on the Inc sounds pretty good as is. So if anyone knows of a better music/mp3 player please post it here.

Thanks.

Thanks for the tip for these! I really like Quick System Info and was finally able to see the capped RAM that a few have been talking about.

For FTP, I think it is much better/safe to go with QuickSSHD currently in un-rooted phone. You can ssh as well as fall back on scp for secure file transfer. I don't know if rooting a phone allows better secure shell & scp daemons.

Mobile Defense is truly amazing. I tested it and it works perfectly. Can locate and lock your phone from your computer no problem. Can't believe its free.

Scanners app is pretty cool. Get local police and fire calls that are broadcast over their scanners. Heard the stations whistle going off last night, fired up the app and learned that it was a house fire right down the road.

Hello - I am new to the Android OS - but LOVE my new Incredible. I was wondering if anybody knew of an app that would send a text message based on a GPS location. I am a vanpool driver - so should not be texting while driving, but would be great to send a text message to one of my riders as I was approaching her house so that she was ready to go once I got there. Any help would be appreciated!!

is there a media streaming app available to use on the incredible yet, I mean like ustream. I tried the ustream app but it wouldnt work.,

QuickSSHD will take advantage of root if you have it (lets you get port 22 and lets you have full root access to the filesystem). But works fine for /sdcard access without root. And the session is encrypted versus FTP where the password (and file contents) is transferred in the clear. Very bad for wireless.
