must have incredible apps

Forgive my ignorance, this will be my first smartphone so I'm looking at all this android stuff for the first time.

AppBrain looks really cool, but giving my Gmail account information to a third party seems like a pretty obvious no-no, does it not?

So here's a question for you guys. I'm new to android (well, I had a Moto Droid for 30 days hehe) and I'm looking for an app or combination of apps that will allow me to do a few things on my home PC.

I'd like to be able to do the following from anywhere, not just my home network:

-Access my desktop via remote desktop
-View (and possibly edit) documents/pdfs on my PC
-Stream music from my PC

I've been doing some research and it seems there are a lot of options for what I'm trying to accomplish, so I'm hoping you folks can point me in the right direction.

I need an app that will spoof whatever user agent I want while visiting websites (to avoid getting dumb mobile versions of sites). I've looked in the app market and haven't found any that people have actually said work.

Every app I click on AppBrain gives me:

"Error: Server Error
The server encountered an error and could not complete your request.
If the problem persists, please report your problem and mention this error message and the query that caused it."

WTF???

I'm guessing it was down for maintenance. It's working fine for me this morning.

screen

Its free, so ill atleast try it and see

also plan to get 3 or "cubed" to see how it is, hear some good things about it

plus a bunch of others i stumbled across on appbrain

I'll be new to Android phones and apps in general, so I haven't actually used this before, but the one that I think I am going to try first is OurGroceries. That really sounds like a useful one. I'm keeping a list of others that sound appealing. I bet a person could spend a lot of time looking at app choices. ;)

OurGroceries keeps a running list of the things you need to buy and can also show the list on the phones of other family members so whoever gets to a certain store first can pick up the needed items and then cross them off the list, and the current changes will show to everybody's phone so you stay synchronized on that.

Like I said, I haven't actually used it yet until I get my Incredible, but thought it might be interesting to some others who like lists.

I'm looking for an app that would be smart enough to put itself into Airplane mode when I get on a subway in NYC. My current dumb phone tries to search for the network when it has no service, and it kills battery life.

The only thing I could find would be Locale or Timerriffic, which would allow me to place the phone into airplane mode at a specific time during the day (for the work commute) but I was wondering if there was any other apps out there that might be smarter about it.

Still not working for me. Tried Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. Still get the Server Error.

Obviously AppBrain is the best site for apps, but is there an alternative that I can use?

You're not actually giving your info to AppBrain. You are using your gmail login/password to authenticate you. The login/password is being sent straight to Google. AppBrain never sees it.

Hope this helps alleviate some of your concern.

Some things on my list that aren't mentioned yet (on this page)

-Aloqa (local businesses
-HootSuite (multiple twitter accounts)
-TaskPanel (kill programs)
-Keyring (take all your barcodes with you, like supermarket cards...etc)
-FX Camera
-Skype
-APNdroid
-Ringdroid (songs to ringtones)
-What the font (figure out what font)
-PDA net (for teathering)
-Google Translate

Looking for a good
-Guitar Tuner
-RSS Reader
-Wordpress Poster
-Flight Status app
-Paypal app

Try "gstrings" for the guitar tuner.

I don't think there are any apps out there that would do what you want. There are location based apps that uses GPS and switches profiles based on the conditions you set. But it's only good for general area location not any specific like being on subway. Plus GPS only uses two dimensional coordinates, so it would not be able to tell whether you're underground or above ground.

For location based profile apps, there's "locale" like you mentioned and another one that a lot of people have been raving called "setting profiles".

I hope that helps you some.

Here are some apps that I'm going to install

Gmote
Ringdroid
Setting Profiles
Google Earth
Goolgle Skymap
Astro File Manager
gStrings
Evernote
Swype - if I could find the beta
PDAnet
Shazaam
Barcode Scanner
Pandora
Sports Tap Widget
Handy Calc

By the way, a writer at ZDNet told me that when he talked to his Verizon contact, he told him that Skype will be out for the Incredible and hopefully at launch. :)

I just downloaded Skype, is that new to Android? Or just to the Incredible? Im online from my Incredible..
