must have incredible apps

I JUST thought about an app like AppBrain and lo and behold I find it. Its even built on Google App Enging like I would have done. VERY smart move on their part. ;-)... if it isn't from Google to begin with lol. Thats now my #1 app since it will sync back everything once I get my Incredible.

The first things I install next Thursday will be:

The Weather Channel
Barcode Scanner
Google Sky Map
PDANet
eBuddy
Speed Test
Craigslistnotifica
NewsRob

Instead of the weather channel get weather bug elite, trust me you'll love it, it does everything twc does but better and it has an awesome widget that shows you the next 3 days weather. I use it in place of that huge gaudy thing htc places on the home page.

Also instead of pdanet, get EasyTether, it works just as good, is very fast some say its faster than pdanet and its only $10.

The other apps you mentioned are a must for the most part.

- Wifi Analyzer is a great app, it shows you the different wifis available and the channels they are on along with signal strength.

- Auto Mount SD is a must have.

- Album Art Grabber, it will take care of any missing cover art when you load it up with mp3s and itunes music.

- AppBrain is also a must have.

I've been on AppBrain a lot today making a list. I'm new to Android, and this may be a dumb question...but...how many apps can you install before actually slowing your phone down? My list right now has about 25 apps (28 mb) and keeps growing. There's just so many cool apps!

I was just thinking about this too. I'm also new to Android, but I know that it does a pretty good job of app management, and I can't imagine that the 45 I'm up to would be too much for the Incredible.

It depends on how many are loaded at startup and how many run while the phone is busy doing other tasks. Overall i was just fine with my eris. I and many others recommend not to use a task manager/killer like advanced task manager as the os does a better job at managing the memory than any 3rd party app.

I need to find an alternative for my mobiler from winmobile. allows you to view and use your phone on pc via tether

That capability is built in to Incredible. All you need is a $15 cable. I bought one on Amazon. Look for HTC video-out cable.

Also, there is a uTube video from Wirefly demonstrating how this feature works. I think this is what you are asking about. If not, then my apologies.

as much as i have been playing on these forums and sites the past few weeks you think I woulda figured out appbrain before now!

At any rate ...I'm looking for an app to play internet radio stations -but specific stations. I would like to be able to create a shortcut on a home screen so I can press one button and the station loads so I could have multiple shortcuts for multiple stations. Any suggestions??

You might want to try iheartradio's droid app. I use the online tool to listen to a local station where I live, and it works great. I can't vouch for the app, but give it a try.

Here's my long list of android apps I am planning to install relatively soon after I get my Incredible. :D

I didn't write most of the comments. I usually just copied what the person said about the app on the forum so I could remember what the app does. I gathered all of this in a google doc, so forgive me for the lack of formatting. It looks great in google docs :)

Can't wait to try these out!

Snap Photo Pro ($0.99)-The default camera in most Android phones is decent, but it could always use improvement. Snap Photo Pro enhances the device’s ability to snap pictures by adding timer mode, multi shot mode, and stability. It also increases shutter speed and can adjust the brightness or contrast of images.

Astrid-Astrid is the best to-do list manager available on Android. Ok, that’s an opinion, but it’s an opinion supported by thousands of users of this great app. Astrid creates tasks with notes, deadlines, reminders, tags, and priority. If that weren’t enough, it can even sync with online task manager RememberTheMilk.com. If you’ve got things to do and need an app to help you do them, Astrid is the first app you should grab in the market.

AISystemWidget - Full name is "System Monitor Widget for Android". It is an advanced system monitoring application that covers geeks curiosity: "How system works?", "How it consumes own resources?", "What hardware do I have?" and of course it comes with couple advanced reporting capabilities.

Newzdroid NZB Downloader - Download files from Usenet newsgroups directly to your phone! Requires a valid Usenet account and access to NZB index files. Handles any DIRECT links in browser to NZB files. Integrates with Newzbin Search application for easy loading of NZB files.

App Referrer- You can share your apps on your phone in several ways. You can generate a QR Code so someone can scan the code directly off the phone. You can share apps via SMS, email, and Twitter as well. The latest update has the option to create an image URL. When you open the app a list of your apps will show up. Simply long press the app you want to share, and choose how you want to share it. It is very simple, and yet very handy. This app does require Barcode Scanner app.

AppAware- For this app, all you do is install it, and see what apps people are installing/uninstalling. I've discovered apps I would have never thought about looking for with this app. You can also "contribute" to AppAware by sharing your installations, updates, and removals. You can also allow this app to tweet about the apps that you update, remove, or install. If you see that someone installed an app that you would like to try, simply click on it, and then click the button that says Open in Market. There are more features. You should definitely give it a go.

Setting Profiles - Like locale, but better, cheaper, nicer on the battery, doesn't slow the phone down too much.

I have some awesome profiles set up.
When I have 'Work' in my Google calendar, and I am in the city I work at, my phone goes into work mode. Turns on airplane mode, off wifi etc. Every 15 mins it turns airplane mode off for a minute to see if I still am in the city, and to receive any emails or texts.

When I finish work, either by leaving the building, or the calendar event running up, it goes into the default profile and the volume turns back up.

When I get into my hometown, every 15 minutes, my wifi turns on for one minute. If it manages to connect to my home wifi, the phone turns to home profile which keeps wifi on =]

However, if I charge my phone after 2am whilst at home, it assumes I'm in bed, brings up a night clock, mutes all notifications and dims the screen but doesn't time out. The alarm still goes off.

Craigsnotifica

Dropbox

FarmFrenzy

phoneportal - I can read/reply/compose sms txts from my phone on my computer.

Nimbuzz - it combines facebook, aim and gtalk

PhonemyPC

DataViz Documents To Go

Tasker - Something that is 10 times better than Localehttp://www.dinglisch.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=35

EasyTether(BETA) - PDANet is a good app. But if you are using the lite/free version - https/ssl is a no go after 30 days. EasyTether has no such restrictions.

DroidLight! I love this! It uses the LED flash to become a flashlight

RemoteDroid - My boxee box has Xubuntu installed on it, so if boxee crashes or I just want to quit boxee and use the computer to look something up real fast this allows me to do it without having to find and connect a keyboard and mouse.

iMusic - search and download music for free.

Apps Organizer - Allows you to label apps and select icons for groups, etc. Also allows you to put folders on the screen for each label.

AppAlarm Pro - Allows me to wake up to Pandora, etc. Can set multiple alarms. Best I've found yet.

iSyncr - syncs flawlessly with iTunes.

Zedge!!! Ringtones and wallpaper galore!!!

SMS Unread Count

Battery Indicator

Gmail Unread Count

Acrobible

Photostitch

Wallswitch, free, allows you to point the program at multiple image folders on your sd card and set it to switch wallpaper at any interval you wish. I have it set to crop so it puts the image on all screen views. It cuts off a few images but is dead-on most of the time.

There's "SMS Scheduler" and "SMS Wishes" that do just that. I tried both and kept "SMS Wishes" (though now I don't remember why :P). You can schedule one-time messages, or repeat certain days of the week. VERY useful app.

I like Any/BetterCut because it allows you to customize your icons and also label your icons whatever you want to...

mylockforandroid - custom lockscreen & locking/backlight controls for android 2.0

Missed Call - It allows you to customize the led color and tones for sms, gmail, email, voicemail, etc.

Touiteur - is a beautiful, highly customizable Twitter client, which will change the way you feel about Twitter!

BinsearchDroid - was created because the android browser doesn't handle correctly gzipped files, so the NZBs saved from binsearch.info are unusable.
Features:
- view search result details
- view NFO (if available)
- direct download with SABcontrol and SABcontrolPlus is supported!

Jorte - is a promising Android calendar replacement

Can anyone recommend the best free Lojak-like app for android? I've shifted through a few an they all seem to have less than stellar reviews.

You might want to try iheartradio's droid app. I use the online tool to listen to a local station where I live, and it works great. I can't vouch for the app, but give it a try.

I was thinking that...or the 3.99 radio app...but anyone know if either of these will allow shortcuts to specfic stations on a home screen so i don't have to enter the app?

I use Tune Wiki on my Eris, gets Shoutcast and Last FM gets streaming stations and works very well.

Great thread, I have started building my list on appbrain.

Could this thread be stickyed as I'm sure I'm not alone in being a first time Android user and it may help to have an ongoing discussion on what apps everyone is putting on their Incredibles and which ones work the best, don't work that well, etc?

Checkout, 'Mobile Decision Maker'. I've just published it to the market. It helps to make better decisions by entering pros and cons of a decision and coming up with an answer.

I'm always looking for more application ideas. If there's no app for something you need, let me know.

@DM33 -- I need an app, do you have a GoogleTalk or other IM account I can hit you up on?

Should be simple but very useful.

Flashlight app... hmm... with the dual LED's, a small double-sided mirror, and a little ingenuity, I bet you could turn this thing into a decent lantern :)

I have a quick question as to how the apps work: Coming from a blackberry, i always enter my pin for paid apps in order to register them to my phone. Is there a pin associated with each Android phone as well?

I and many others recommend not to use a task manager/killer like advanced task manager as the os does a better job at managing the memory than any 3rd party app.

I noticed this on my friend's Moto DROID, the task killer app was using 10x the battery of any other application and he wasn't even using it to kill anything.
