must have incredible apps

I am coming from a blackberry and was wondering if anyone knows of a good Audio Book, Podcast app?

I used to use Podtrapper on the storm and it was awesome. It did a great job of getting, organizing and playing podcasts, along with audio books. You could make playlists, and it also bookmarked, remembered where you left off in a podcast or audio book, so it was very easy to come back.

Thanks for the tips on Handcent guys. Might give it a shot. Does voice to text still work with this app installed though?

Yes it still uses the default keyboard which has voice to text. Also what I found cool was when you receive a text message popop you can hit a button to have the phone read to you the message (text to voice)

That is so awesome. May give this a shot tomorrow, thanks a lot!

Scanners app is pretty cool. Get local police and fire calls that are broadcast over their scanners. Heard the stations whistle going off last night, fired up the app and learned that it was a house fire right down the road.

which specific app was it, or was it just called , "scanners" ?

is there a way to rename the handcent widget so it says the word messages instead of the word handcent

If you're just talking about the icon on a home screen, yeah but you need an app like bettercut. I have heard, though, than any app that gets notifications, ie the little green circle on the icon, will resort back to the default icon when a notification comes in. I have yet to see this phenomenon, but I read on here somewhere a while back.

if you look under the apps list on droid-life.com they have the download link for SWYPE or you can download a custom SWYPE keyboard, too...just visit the page via your incredible and download the .apk from there....works fine on my incredible.

Are there any type of add-in's for Google Navigation? Specifically, I am looking for a way to store frequently used addresses, Speed / Posted Speed overlay etc... I am used to these things with my TomTom.

I installed it today but for some reason, it would not remain as my default SMS app. I unchecked the notifications from Android as per the directions on their website, rebooted the phone and still no go.

Maybe I missed something or I gave up on it too easily but it just did not seem to work. I also noticed that my phone lagged a bit after I installed it.

Sadly, I uninstalled the app. Maybe I will wait for them to update it for the Incredible.

This one was recommended by a friend and seems quite impressive for a beta:
https://www.mobiledefense.com/

Android Phone Tracking and Security.

I actually installed this and it seems like a pretty good security app (and I guess it has built in antivirus)... you don't even know its on the phone and yet you can locate your phone if its ever stolen. Although I guess it doesn't have the remote wipe or backup features that other security apps have....

you can star items (which is as close as google will allow to adding favorites from the mobile device, atm.)

in the other direction (gmaps online>mobile device) all the options are available (overlays, routes etc)

Just downloaded SMSBackup which is an AWESOME app if you ever need to backup your text messages. Sends them directly to your gmail account via IMAP and labels them with SMS

I have Podkast and I'm liking it so far in the limited amount of time I have spent with it.
