It comes down to how you use it: For instance, if you've never dropped or mishandled your phone, you just need the Extended Warranty. If you've never lost or had your phone stolen, then get SquareTrade. Otherwise get Asurion. After handling my Incredible for a few days, I think I might take the plunge and buy insurance. Just wanted to see what you guys thought about ...
1. Whether it's worth it? I'm generally careful, but accidents do happen.
2. Whether I should go with Asurian ($6/month), Verizon's full coverage plan ($8/month) or a plan through SquareTrade ($144 for 2 years w/only $50 deductible)?
Thanks!![]()
Have insured a number of phones with Square Trade. Fortunately, never had to submit a claim. If you change your phone during the coverage period, and cancel the policy, they refund a substantial portion of the premium paid. Not a bad deal at all.
I just get the extended warranty for $1.99.
I went with verizons full coverage plan. They said the asurian insurance is only available for the first 12 months of the device. The full coverage is available for 24 months. Its only $2 more so i figured why not. Its the first device i've spent the money on to protect, but as much as i carry it around with me i figured i might as well insure it to be 100% sure i won't be without one for an extended period of time.
Advanced Devicesis that $1.99 per month? Can you add that within the first 30 days?
Does the Verizon $8/mo. have a deductible?
Advanced Devices
Someone on a Blackberry forum said anything with a touchscreen is considered "advanced" but I'm not completely sure about that.
- $7.99 per month per covered device.
- $89 non-refundable deductible per approved claim.
I believe the $1.99 just extends the manufacturer's warranty. The $7.99 includes accidental damage and theft.
Verizon (asurian) covers loss and water damagae. (89.00 deductible)They cover water damage but not loss whereas Verizon's was the opposite. Anybody go with the Best Buy insurance?
Best Buy will swap out your phone for a loaner while it is sent in to be fixed/replaced. I also believe they need a credit card/bank card to put the loaner on then it would be refunded when the loaner is returned. I say go with the insurance from verizon or the other one everyone has been talking about
I bought my phone at Best Buy and noticed on my online credit card statement next to the purchase it says if you pay your monthly bill online with a Citi credit card, you get free insurance on your phone.
I have another option for you, and one that a lot of people seem to be unaware of.
You can get a personal articles insurance policy from most of the major insuance companies that are cheaper than verizon or squaretrade.
I got a personal articles insurance policy on my Incredible for $35 a year from State Farm. That covers everything, theft, accidental, whatever with no deductible or charge when you file a claim. Here's some more info on the subject from State Farms website:

Just thought I'd share...
Verizon has a new option of getting a FRU (Field Replacement Unit) for $90. It's a like-new-refurb. You can do this once every 12 months without extending your contract. HTH.

My SF agent in Oregon told me the same thing. He said they stopped providing coverage on cell phones like...last month. Bummer.I got more information from State Farm today. At one time they did insure cell phones but no longer insure cellphones or ipods in the state of NY. Apparently too many people were abusing it. For those that did get insurance through State Farm in other states, consider yourself lucky. I can't imagine it'll be around forever with all the insurance fraud out there.
