HTC DROID Eris OS 2.1v3 download

Installed v3 last night.....giving it a few days to sink in ,but I think i like it!!!

Volume down and power button? That's what I did and it worked just fine, not sure what a difference it makes but worth a try.

So I posted my question and then decided to try one last time, wondering if perhaps I had read the instructions too quickly and was pressing the wrong volume button. A couple of minutes later I was swearing and smacking myself in the head, as I had indeed been pressing volume UP and not DOWN... I came back hoping no one had replied yet so I could edit my post and save face, but no. Thanks flspnr! :-)

Move along folks, nothing to see here, just your garden variety moron. Move along, please...

Oddly enough when I loaded 2.1 on my Eris last night not all of my google contacts sync'd up, only some of them. Also my email isn't coming in unless I manually sync it. Anybody have any insight on that?

I went from 1.5 to the 2.1 v3 leak over the weekend and I must say that as of now I am very happy with it. I haven't noticed any of the reported bugs so far, and have yet to be afflicted with the dreaded zombie phone. On the way to work this morning I set up the google navigator to navigate me to work and it worked flawlessly, cutting the music to tell me when to turn. In the middle of all that I took a call from my wife, and the conversation went the way it should. So right now I am very happy. The only thing that I have found to nitpick about, and believe me it's nothing compared to some of the major bugs that others have deal with, but the new calculator on 2.1 sucks compared to the calculator on 1.5. If that's all I have to end up complaining about then I am all set! Thanks to Caddyman for the newest leak.

At first not all of my contacts were there either. I noticed my contact card gradually filling out after about an hour after I installed the leak. I have not had to sync my email at all, I get all of my facebook notifications with no problem. Those are the only emails that I have received so far, mayby I should send myself something and see if it comes through.

Wen the official 2.1 comes out and we update......can we root it? i want a new boot screen and live wallpapers)):

you can change the boot animation without root using adb push. search for a thread on here titled 'boot animation'. you'll find the info you are looking for in there. I had the Nexus One boot animation for a long time. I liked it.

alright thanks(:

still leaves my other question there tho):

Quick question here.ive had my eris since january and have been surfing this forum for about 5 months now .I have had no problems with the phone and I really lover this phone. I usually can figure everything out myself but if I putthis new leak on my phone, will I get the official update from verizon when it eventually comes out ?

So I am thinking of doing this.

I am running 2.1v2 right now. Will I have to re-enter all my Mail, Exchange, etc.. info?

Is Astro good enough for doing a backup, or if I want to maintain sms, etc... do I need something else? I had myBackup running, but the 30 day trial ended, and when I try to get the Pro in the market, it says it doesn't exist.

I went out to my Google Contacts and did a backup of those.

So what should I use to backup? I am going to backup my entire SD card anyways in a few minutes.

Thanks

And what did you contribute with this inexplicably enlightening statemant doosh?

After installing v3 of the 2.1 leak, I also installed an app named Android System Info. It provides LOADS of detailed info on the phone. Info on memory, battery, uptime (which I know, is available in the OS) but it also gives you access to system logs, CPU load, memory load, as well as detailed java, os, build and even sensor parameters.

The reason I bring this up is, in multiple locations the HTC Desire is referenced. While it is very similar to the HTD Droid Eris, could there be subtle difference that might be the cause of some of these issues we are having on the 2.1 leaks?

Just a random thought. Anyone have any thoughts of their own on this?

you arent being paranoid. when the first leak came, i didnt turn off sync fast enough. it synced my phone contacts to my gmail contacts, overriding the gmail. lost a list of 200-some email addresses. kinda sucks when that happens.

has anyone found a fix for this? i used MyBackup Pro to put them back on, and it gave me three or four entries for some ppl (im assuming because i had facebook contact linked to google contact along with information input that wasnt in either initially), and any person that had multiple contact cards is now inaccessible.

MyBackup is a POS. It doesn't differentiate between Google and Phone contacts, or FB contacts. When I used it to backup between leak v1 & v2, it took every single contact everywhere on my phone and mashed them all together. When I went to restore the backup after the v2 upgrade, suddenly, all my Google contacts were duplicates and I had FB and Phone contacts all over my Google contact folder. MASSIVE, UNNECESSARY FAIL. It took me over 2 1/2 hrs to put my contacts back right. I had been keeping my core 80-90 phone contacts (the ones I used to sync with Outlook/BB Desktop) clear of my Google b/c I didn't want to have all 350+ email contacts in my Gmail all sitting in my phone cluttering up my address book. I certainly didn't need 200 FB friends in my Google account (that's what FB is for). Oh well. Thanks to MyBackup, now all my contacts are in one place. Not what I intended AT ALL, but it actually sorta works better now, instead of that "linking" that takes about 10 seconds PER CONTACT to load every time you pull someone up on the phone. I just had to spend a mad amount of time on my PC in Gmail sorting it all out, which I did before the v3 upgrade. My contacts came thru in record time, complete with pictures and FB linking, and now my address book pulls up at least 50% faster than it did before.

Seriously, short of paid 1.5 apps - I can't see much reason to "back up" this phone. If you spend the time and put all your contacts in Gmail, then the only thing you lose with the upgrade is saved SMS/MMS and your bookmarks. All your apps are still sitting in the market waiting to be downloaded again, your contacts and emails are in Google's cloud. What is there to backup? It's also a heck of a lot cleaner to start with everything fresh, so to speak. I swear some of the issues that people are having that have been "following" them around from leak to leak are due to trying to replicate a previous installation from restored backups.

If you phone is fresh and going thru initial setup, it will NOT blank your Google contacts. The only way it would do that is if you had already sync'd, THEN deleted all your contacts out of your phone and then it re-sync'd and wiped your Google contacts clean. I mean, I keep a fairly recent .csv backup of that stuff anyways, but if you set up the phone correctly it will not wipe your contacts.

There's one major new feature that I haven't seen anyone mention, and it's the one that is going to keep me on this phone for another year until my N.E.T. comes due - finally being able to add a shortcut to a persons "Quick Contact" card. This was something I could NOT figure out why it took Android/Google so long to figure out. So simple, yet elusive for the Android devs, apparently. Now when you add someone as a shortcut directly to a home screen, the last option is "Quick Contact". once they are added like this, when you tap that contact on your home screen, it slides in a toolbar with icons to txt, call primary, email, map, talk, or FB them (depending on what fields are filled on each contact) and has their latest FB status scrolling across the top of it. Totally made the phone, as navigating thru contacts or being able to pick which method of communication I want without opening up that horrendously slow address book was probably my biggest issue with this phone. Now that the dialer lag appears to be cleared up, contacts are usable, and the overall responsiveness of the phone has increased about 50% from the last two versions, I'm actually starting to see this phone as a legit primary device. Before it was a great mobile browser/email client, and horrible phone/communications device. Now, it's a responsive all around great phone/pda/web device with apps. This latest release gives me much hope for the Android platform, and is going to let me keep my Eris for a few more months. I loved this phone's potential, and I'm glad HTC and Verizon are maximizing it with the 2.1 update.

the only thing that worries me about doing it that way is that what if gmail contacts get overridden by my phone, which would be blank of all contacts? then ill have nothing and no way to recover the majority. that would really kind of suck, no? or is there a way to force the sync to favor gmail instead of the phone?

Nice post! I went through the same mybackup duplicate contacts nightmare. Wiped all of my google contacts. HUGE pita. It also corrupted my contact card for some reason. The only thing its good for is restoring apps. You don't have to re-download them, just re install them which saved me probably a half hour.
Anyway, factory reset and my phone is running beautifully. Dialer is much improved, though still not perfect. All other bugs are fixed as far as I can tell. If they do release the OTA update, it would require some pretty impressive features to convince me to flash again. This one seems complete so far.
