Root [ROM] ZV4 updated stock ROM

I get that, but now he's on z4, laf is restored, and he doesn't have root. He has to go back and start over.

Yeah and it's going to be quite the feat. Since i don't have root im not sure how im even going to be able to revert to z3 or flash any roms 😕

Let say if I am successfully flash the rom and rooted the phone, does the laf.img also restored?

Thank you.

Edit:
Alright, all I know is to follow step by step instructions from post #1 to flash the rom and radio. I did that without any issue; however, I forgot to flash supersu. After reboot, the phone is not rooted; then, I tried to go back to flash the SU. I pressed vol+ and then plugged in the phone, instead, it loaded the “update firmware” screen. At this point, I did not know what to do; so, I rebooted the phone. Next, I downloaded and installed towelroot, to my surprise, it rooted my phone. (Before this, my phone is in zv3 and rooted with towelroot). As of now, I keep getting the message "SU binary outdated".

Now, my questions are:
1. do I have to restore the laf.img? if yes, how?
2. how do I update the SU binary
3. if there is another update rom, do I follow the same steps from post #1 to flash the new rom?

Update: I've whipped up a new ROM, this one has all the previous stuff, deodexed, zipaligned, etc, but now this one is lightly debloated and has gapps updated, even more exciting, now it updates the radio and the kernel (or at least it should) and you shouldn't have to flash superuser. I haven't had the time to test it but I've been really excited to release it to you all, so as with any other ROM, flash at your own risk and I cannot stress enough to make a backup of your current partitions. Enjoy :)

Link removed until I fix it

Thanks so much man, can you add ZipThemer support? Like the Edify update to the new.zip so that we can theme the phone on the new ZV4 rom? I'm trying to get more than just the LG theme on my phone. Metamorph hasn't been updated in a long time, so I am stuck using ZipThemer, right? Are there any useful tools for creating themes on android? (Sorry for being a n00b, this is my very first android device and I just got it a few days ago)

1. laf is restored upon flashing, but no, you don't HAVE to restore it unless you want download mode.
2. Did you install SuperSU from the store?
3. Depends...if there is no further development in getting custom recovery working, then yeah, the process will probably be similar for future updates.

I got it, thanks.

Yes, I installed SuperSU from the store but there is also Superuser installed with the rom. It is the Superuser needed binary update. I just cancel the notification when it shows up.

Any idea when you'll have this fixed?

I was wanting to completely go back to v3 and update again, wiping everything. I've got some glitches that I'm hoping this would clear up.

I'm sorry, I've been really busy lately and might start a new job soon. I'll go take a look right now though and see if I can find out what the problem was. From what I understand it was an error in the install script.

Sorry, not trying to rush you. We all have lives, I was just wondering where you were with it. :)

Congrats on the new job!

Thank you guys for all your time and hard work on our phones cant say that enough..on other hand i am on v3 rooted and it has a weird glitch my 3g and 4g keep switching back and forth simultaneously.my question is should i try to do the old method or wait for the new version to be fixed? i bought this phone it had v4 and ran great out the box then i needed root because i cant get decent internet where i live so i always used my phone. i downgraded to the v3 with root and patiently waiting to be able to fix this issue with v4. thank you once again

AFAIK, using the old method would be fine, you'll just have to install the radio and kernel separately.

oK cool ill do that this morning last night my phone killed battery just on standby because it constantly trying to reload 3g/4g and switches between them alot. i also may reflash v3 see if it clears it up as well

So I've been at work practically all day trying to figure out why I'm getting the status 6 error and I just can't figure it out! But I see that we have bump now! :) I'm so excited to unleash this beast!!!

So should flashing this with the new recovery that we have work and be a breeze? Already made a backup. Also is the update done and working?

When you flash this ROM again does it overwrite CWM?

I never flashed it previously. I waited for the day a recovery was created to work on this phone. The other method was too much of a hassle for some debloated rom so I never used the fastboot CWM from the beginning of this thread.

I will confirm that flashing the permanent recovery, then flashing this ROM did not remove the permanent recovery. I was able to boot up holding Vol. down and get into recovery and flash radio, plus make a backup. However, I never had the ROM on here prior to flashing the new recovery, therefore I can't really vouch for those that might have issue prior to this method.

If I get time this weekend, now that we have a working cwm and you guys have confirmed that flashing the radio doesn't overwrite the recovery partition, I'm going to give it another stab and see if I can successfully whip up a complete ROM with the kernel and radio and all.

Does anyone have an issue with not receiving native Voicemail Notifications? Voicemails come through fine just lacking notifications. Searched this thread on that keyword and nothing found. No notifications since I flashed more than a week ago; however, flashed before activating the phone.

As far as I can tell all images and baseband are current. Phone was reactivated and PRL and profile again updated. Initially, deleted all the Boost apps and wondering if that landed me in the pot. Mobile ID is frozen. Phone was factory reset a few days prior for some other issue & did not resolve.

EDIT: Boost customer support reset voicemail, no luck. They escalated to higher tier. Rep said there was some config error with the service/phone and had to escalate again, but had to call back during normal bus hours. I asked about Visual Voicemail app and if that played into it and he said no. It is installed and enabled, however, but cannot really do anything with it unless I subscribe. Was on Virgin Mobile prior and wonder if the migration screwed something up. Will update..
