Root [ROM] ZV4 updated stock ROM

Well from what i gathered on another post having a carrier specific rom doesnt just mean the bloatware.
If you pull down notifications you will notice a bar at the bottom with either "boost mobile" or something else writen there.like virgin movile.
It also lets the phone be a.bit more returnable id something happens.

Flashed stock ZV4 ROM AND kernel and c8 baseband radio update with root.

Since doing this the phone can no longer enter DL mode (vol+ & USB cable connected). It appears to enter DL mode initially and quickly opens a new screen indicating "Firmware Update". "Do not unplug the USB connection until the process is complete". There is a progress bar that is stuck on 0% and a box below that that shows "CHARGER_0NUHS B94" on the first line and second line: "ROOTED" I'm guessing it's waiting for a proper update file on int/ext memory. Phone buttons (except pwr-dwn) & Fastboot commands do not respond in this state.

Again, tried reflashing the ZV4 ROM zip file and SuperSU.zip in CWM, wiped cache & Dalvik and also did a factory reset on another attempt. No change. The phone can, however, enter Stock Recovery (vol- & power button) and can launch Fastboot commands and CWM within.

The phone is rooted (SuperSU 2.14) and can run rooted apps with no issue. Towelroot, of course, no longer works (phone not supported).

Do I need to be concerned since there is root access and phone/apps appear to operate properly as well as SIP calls? The phone is new and not activated as of yet. Plan to activate w/ Boost Mobile in the next few days. I do see the LTE icon flash at times when WiFi is off.

Hoping there is a supported CWM update soon to circumvent the ADB/PC tethering.

Battery life is sick! And thanks to all on this thread!

What you are describing is, in fact, download mode. It is waiting for you to send an update file from LGFlash Tool, which is why the progress bar is not progressing. This is completely normal. What is 'missing', and what you were looking for, is fastboot mode. This is because the update restores laf. Again, this is completely normal.

If you want tethering, simply get WiFi Tether Router.

You are correct. As a test I just nuked laf and was able to get into fastboot and subsequently restored laf from there. Originally, I used Bad_MOFO_33 method in post #148 where laf was not zeroed. Got stumped on this since did not do the laf backup and nuke method originally and thus laf got restored during the radio update. All is clear now.

Thanks.. ready to activate!

Is there any way a user that has successfully completed this -radio included- make a step by step guide, as if I'm 10 to help me through this. I have read through these posts and can't get a chronological idea of how to do this. I would seriously appreciate any help as I'm still new. We all start somewhere, thanks ya'll in advance. XD

Haha I hear ya mate. When I was on the OV i could do this stuff in my sleep due to the crazy active community. Moved to Awe and now Volt and was literally lost in space for a while. It all came back to me and unlike a lot of these guys, IDC how android savvy I sound lol.
1. Go through the guides and figure out what files you will need. Youll need ROM.zip, CWM.zip, radio.zip and youll need "Minimal fastboot" which is an android debugging program (ADB). I cant think of others but just download what you see in the respective guides. Id also move the ROM and Radio .zip to your phone and the clockwork Mod img to the file where you install Minimal fastboot to save time later.
2. Go to your Android system settings and scroll down to About Phone > Software version > now tap Build number 7 times and it will make you a dev. Have your phone plugged into PC and it will ask you to grant your PC dev rights. Do this and then go into dev options and select Android debugging. Your PC should load some fresh drivers and youll get the bug icon on status bar.
3. Open minimal and youll get some weirdish looking command line. Now type these commands and leave off "".
"ADB shell" and hit enter - will change to shell and some numbers
"su" and hit enter - you should see your phone grant SU privileges
" dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf of=/sdcard/laf.img" - this will perform a quick task and give you some info as well as the .laf back-up in your file system.
"dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf" - quick task and displays some info
"ADB reboot" - reboots the program, unplug your phone and turn it all the way off now
4. Now your phone is off and unplugged. Hold the volume up key and plug in the phone. This should bring up a white screen that says Download mode but the last line should say "Fastboot processing commands" if you did step 3 correct.
5. Now in a fresh command line since you ran "ADB reboot" and downloaded CWM and placed it in Minimals install folder you will type this minus the ""
"Fastboot boot cwma1.img" If it works youll see a bunch of white text scroll and voila youre in CWM and almost there!
6. To be safe scroll down and wipe cache (will take a long time), now down to advanced > wipe dalvik cache, back to first page and Wipe data/factory reset
7. Now since you moved the ROM to your SDcard earlier youll just need to flash/install the zv4.zip from the SDcard via the first page on clockwork. Should take 5 minutes or so. Now redo step 6. Now install the radio.zip that you copied to your SD card earlier. Redo step 6 for shits and giggles.
8. This is crucial to the exploit, drop and do 50 push-ups, 100 set-ups and 1/2 mile run. Immediately return home and go to your PC thats still in CWM.
9. Reboot system now and answer yes to fix root.
10. Youll need reactivate your phone so read what the OP wrote under the radio.zip link.
11. Should be good to go. I staid up late and besides a few bloat programs i got my device back to where I want it. Tested my LTE and with 1 bar I got 10.80mbps down and 2.5mbps up in south seattle. Before I think I was maxed at 8.5ish down over LTE and the upload is entirely dependent on the bad reception, Ive had 5+mbps on the old radio in good spots.

Hopefully this helps if you havent got it yet. And I totally undserstand why you couldnt figure it out. Scenes like this are pretty much the same as anywhere else; quick and cryptic if not intentionally vague. Oh well, Im sure none of these folks are technical writers or novelists and never claimed to be. However when a post is titled "How to" Id love to see the work lol. But DanHalen is a billionaire mogul whos also the spawn of satan himself, cant have it all like him.

I just bought an LG Volt, and I stupidly let it update itself. So, it was on LS740ZV4, and was fully activated (with all the Vigrin Mobile crapware downloaded).

I followed the guide here to use LGFlashTool to downgrade to (stock) LS740ZV3, then I rooted and installed this ROM.

I couldn't activate the phone! I had to leave it overnight in order to activate it. (Does it only let you activate once per day or something?)

Anyway, now it's all set. Activated, rooted, and on LS740ZV4 (I had to ##SCRTN# and then ##UPDATE#). BUT! As my carrier, it says "LG". It didn't download any of Virgin Mobile's crapware, nor do I see the Virgin Mobile log during boot up (like I did when I used the "official" update). I seem to be able to call/SMS/MMS/LTE just fine, but for cosmetic reasons I want the carrier to say "Virgin Mobile", not "LG". How do I fix this?

P.S. I updated by baseband to c8.

For instance.. I had installed the "stock" non carrier specific LG Rom and i have a boost mobile phone awhile back and then i flashed the ZV4 update from scratch and i didn't have a ton of bloat ware etc to remove or freeze. On the other hand my wife had the boost mobile stock software on hers and when i flashed the ZV4 update on her phone like donjuro said there were apps like mobile id, boost zone and the list goes on. Again, very easy to remove the bloat. Her and i have the same boost plan, same exact Volt but we started from different ROM's. She likes her boost ROM, i prefer mine to be non carrier specific. It's all about what you are starting from i guess.

Can you please elaborate on how to install the non-carrier-specific ROM? Is that the same ROM and process that is used to downgrade to ZV3?

Thanks!

----
Edit: Never mind. I got my Boost phone from Ebay (brand new) and it came with ZV3 out of the box, and surprisingly there was no Boost bloatware.

Edit 2: The reason I had no bloatware was because I hadn't activated the phone yet. As soon as I activated it, BOOM, the home screens got reset and the bloatware magically showed up.

I've taken our stock zv3 ROM and updated it to zv4.

Thanks so much, great work!!! Successfully flashed ROM and radio.

Suggested improvements to OP:

- Add MD5 values for ROM and radio zip files

- Replace link to SuperSU. The current link goes to an old version. I believe this link will always go to the latest: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu

- Add a note that the ROM and radio zip files need to be on a physical removable SD card, not the internal emulated sdcard, to be flashed from CWM. That confused me at first because there is a path named /sdcard in the internal memory, but CWM maps /sdcard to the external SD card.

Can you please give some more info about what bloat was removed in the latest version?

Thanks

It was mostly the boost stuff and some of the useless lg stuff like the app downloader/updater. Can't remember what all it was.

And i dunno if n e one cares lol or if its just me but after i did all this i ws back to the old version of playstore but i jus googled the apk from here

http://www.redmondpie.com/google-play-apk-4.4.22-download/

I jus like the way it looks lol all credit to them im just sharing 😄

I couldn't get new.zip to flash butttt i'm on ls740_zv4.zip.

Im afraid to try to flash the new.zip again but i do remember the out come for the error was error 6. but it wasn't "error 6" in exact words.

I believe it's from the radio, I took the laf partition out in case something went wrong but I'll see what I can do when I get a chance to test it on my phone.

Op has been updated guys!!

Thank you. Im having trouble flashing. I used your original z4 rom to upgrade the first time(no root), but now when i try to flash your new version, i cannot.

Your original z4 update didn't have root, and your guide seems to require it.

Is there a way around this?

He was asking about my original one and not the updated one. With the original you have to flash superuser when you're done flashing the ROM or install SuperSU.
