ok i applied the otafix and it hasnt given me the update notification im running b themed with nextheme not ur rom

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant.

That file puts the otacerts.zip back into the ROM, so if your phone gets the OTA, it will not continuously download it (a ~60MB file).

You can then accept the file, recovery will block it, and go on with your life :D

@droidftw - install it with ROM manager 'Install ROM from SD card'

does clockwork block the install or do you have to have sprecovery?

Once you accept it you can the flash back to Clockwork and the phone will still know not to download the update again? How does that work?

so do i change the otafix zip to update zip and apply it that way and it goes where it should? and this can be used with regular beast v1?

i put on the OTAfix and nothing yet . although i wasnt getting any warning BEFORE the fix anyway, so i have nothing to compare it to . the system update menu tells me i have the latest update .

if something pops up and tells me to update what should i do ?

yep and i just downloaded th update from droid-life.com should i rename it to ocerts.zip or whatever it is?

NO! Do not ever install that update. The point of the ota fix was so that if you ever got this update, you phone would only download it once, instead of looping over and over again, draining battery and wasting bandwidth.

Yes, you can rename it to update.zip if you're using SPRecovery. If you're using Clockwork, just install with ROM manager.

You may not have been chosen to get the OTA anyways. If you get it, you can just accept it. I'm pretty sure that both Clockwork and SPRecovery will block it. Then, it won't bother you again.

i really dont understand what you are saying . maybe cuz i am new to the update system though. first you say:

your telling me to accept it? but didnt u just say to never install it ? are they two different things . sorry . i just dont understand wat you mean

as of now, i have not any any pop ups about the download. i have installed the otcfix . and nothing has changed on my phone since. still no popup about the download.

What I was getting at is that you shouldn't go out and find the update (like you did at droid-life). The whole point is that without the ota fix, this ROM will not notify you that there is an update should your phone ever have it pushed to it.

The problem with that is then the phone will just continuously download the update and fail, since it does not have the ota certificates.

But once you apply the fix, and if your phone gets the update pushed to it, you will only download it once, and then you can 'accept' it so that it doesn't bother you to update anymore.

...anyways, I don't think anyone on this ROM will get this update anyways. It was on Droidmod cuz their ROM is 2.0.1 based. This is 2.1 based so more than likely our phones won't get the update pushed to them.

OP has been updated with OTA fix:

This is for people who are getting bad battery life because their phones keep redownloading the ota.

Will this work with regular V1 from pete? - EDIT - I just read yes you can, I started my quick reply on the last page :)
I want to avoid this issue, but I still can't install your Nex ROM for some reason.

Hey Fab - It WORKS

I redownloaded the file on my PC and as it turns out, the previous one was like half a meg short and incomplete, even though the download showed complete.
Now I am all good - gonna try out the features soon.
Thanks for all your help
Nick

just update a clockwork update. Thinking it may have fix in it. Been running bb at 1000 kernal on nextheme. No problem with battery or heat problem. right now my temp is 22c , kinda chilly this morning but usually about 37-39c. I am using batterylife app.

Quick question about the scripts. Does the free memory script mean shouldn't run auto killer?

Pete's instructions in the BBV1.0 OP say that you don't need to run autokiller. Free50mb script runs by default, as I understand it.

And by the way, if you're going to run SetCPU for the profiles, you might want to delete the "pete" script from xbin: [ROM] Bugless Beast V1.0 ESE81

I've deleted that file from xbin now, because I definitely want to have SetCPU run my profiles and this will eliminate any opportunity for conflicts.

Day 2 with this ROM, and I still am unable to push HL2(themed), have it d/l on sd card. Using android terminal, and followed instructions in OP. What else can I try?

I didn't see an answer to your question here. If you're trying to push an app to system, I find the easiest way is to use Root Explorer:

1. Copy the themed HL2 and paste it into /system/app (you'll need to press the button on the top right that says "Mount R/W".

2. Long-press on the newly pasted HL2 apk and select Permissions.

3. Change the permissions to User: Read - Write, Group: Read, Others: Read

4. When you click Okay, you should see "rw-r--r--" in the fine print under the .zip name.

5. Click the Mount R/O button, then reboot.

seems to me that the reverse of what most should get on 3g i would expect 7-800kbps down and 150-250kbps up

i just tested and got 788 down and 392 up with a 327ms latency

I viewed the 'Pete' script in /system/xbin and it includes more than his setcpu settings. It also uses busybox apparently to kill many of the startup apps that are unnecessary. Do you really want to lose that function?

** FIRST OFF: DO NOT JUST GO DO THIS. I AM ONLY SOLICITING OPINIONS FROM THOSE WHO ARE MORE EXPERIENCED WITH ANDROID. I AM PRETTY NEW TO SCRIPTING AND STUFF LIKE THAT **

Girl: Thanks for all the help you give us here. I read the posts by you and Nismo explaining to delete the script "Pete". Do you think we could just edit the script so that we could keep the "free memory" features of the script? Specifically, we could delete all of the "echo" statements (EXCEPT THE LAST ONE) because these set the parameters for the CPU speed, governor, etc. The last echo statement deals with the freememory portion. We would also need to delete the last busybox statement that kills SetCPU.

This is just a suggestion so that we could keep the applicable portions of the script while allowing SetCPU to set our parameters and perhaps save battery. On the other hand, once PETE is ran, these parameters are saved; should we then go to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq and delete those values. I'm just not sure how SetCPU would set and maintain its parameters.

Soliciting opinions from those of you who are more experienced in this...
