Root [Official Root Guide] Kyocera Hydro Vibe

This method does not work for me either. Get to 77% and it says Install complete then transitions to a new page that says "Failed. Phone is too hard." I'm in debugging mode, obviously as you must be in debut to being the process. I have the correct drivers as I have been using the Tether app and it required them as well.

I am stumped. I have the correct firmware, 4.3 Jelly Bean.

I have attempted this over 10 times in a row, each time the same exact result. On a side note, only one time did I ever get notifications on my phone asking me to install items from Root Genius. I have not been able to recreate that again.

Any ideas? There does not appear to be a log file generated anywhere, is there?

Really I dun know. I'm not much a remote support person. I do better on being on location to troubleshoot things. When I did it. it worked first attempt. So I never ran into issues so I wouldn't know what to suggest in this matter.

I mean if we're closer in person be happy to help. but sure thats not likely. lol

Me If I was there i try to do things as vanilla as possible. factory reset phone, make no changes to it aside enable USB debugging again. Check device manager to make sure there no conflicts. Run Root Genius make sure it says its connected, and start my first attempt. if still no go. While its a off chance might try updating .NET framework (but i doubt thats the reason).

Other why's in my other research i found this might work for the phone also without need for PC if you want to try it. http://towelroot.com/tr.apk (Which dont work on factory upate for anyone woundering).

Also for kicks check in about phone look at the kernel date if before June 3rd 2014. While i wanna think its unlikely that vibes are not all shipped with the same images at this time. but if somehow the kernel is after that date means not all the kernels are the same even with them still on Android 4.3. Which would make root impossible at this time.

I just got the phone and since my last phone was rooted I wanted this one rooted too, but no go! The drivers would not install! I'm assuming that it is because I'm running Windows 8.1 instead of 7 but not sure. Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.

It works on Windows 8.1 But you might have to disable Driver Signature Verification, or make sure you have the correct driver.

You just said there was no root for Kit Kat, even with the drivers. If your phone is updated to the latest firmware, then there are no known working root methods at this time. I wish someone would chime in and prove me wrong though lol.

I wish there was. and that this still worked. Root Genius hasn't been updated yet. and I have taken a break from looking because I'm working on getting my RV Ready.

Hi

I'm prety newat this stuff.

Will rooting the phone allow me to use a different carrier? How it's done? Just put a different sim card?

No it will not. This phone is CDMA. only uses a SIM for 4G LTE Data. So the carrier has to release the phone's ESN(or called IMEI or MEID). Which if your phone is from Virgin Mobile. They do not release this to other carriers. Sprint is another story if you have the Sprint Version of this phone. Depending if its under contract or still owe money on it. The carrier you're going too maybe able to use the ESN. Get the OK from Sprint, and add it to their systems. Only if they support the device however. This phone is not like a Full fledged GSM Phone. Where you can just send in the info for your phone and get a code that's just for your phone to unlock it to other GSM Carriers.

Rooting only allow for more administrative permissions on the phone OS Only, which may allow other things such as removing preinstalled apps you can't normally, or install apps that require root permissions. Also be aware if you decide to root this phone. at this time it can only be done before the firmware update. and after words you can not update it. you will brick the phone and hope the carrier will replace it. (just shhhh that you were trying to root it. lol)

The latest update to this phone breaks the root method. The phone out of the box had a version which the Kernel had an exploit which allowed root which they block in the update.

So I can't use this phone in Europe. Prety much this is all GSM.

(F#$%!!!)

I wouldn't know honestly for I don't live there, and don't know how the cell carrier system is set up there. lol

But if its mostly GSM There. The thing need to ask yourself is what the carrier frequency used by the carrier of your choice. I think one of the next closest phone to this one spec wise is the Kyocera Hydro XTRM. Which is kinda alike in being its waterproof, Sonic Receiver speaker technology. here in the US, It would be used off T-Mobile GSM Network. a rather nice looking phone. One I been thinking of switching too after i move. and Sell my Vibe. So i can use metroPCS for the family discount offers.

But it all depends what your looking for in a phone. If its like the waterproof options all the Hydro models are suppose to be waterproof. So just look into there GSM Models and take your pick, and good luck.

You do need a GSM phone to use in Europe... no CDMA only phone will work. The T- Mobile and Metro PCS versions of this phone are the Hydro Life and they are locked to their carriers although I did read where the Metro PCS version phone will work with the mother company's sim card (T-Mobile). You must unlock these phones to work in Europe or with another GSM support company like ATT. The specs of the T Mobile and Metro phones are not the same but closest to the Virgin Vibe. On Paper the Vibe usually has the better specs where they are different. The Hydro XTRM has very little user memory but can be rooted and also has the most GSM bands including 2100 which is desirable if your in a country or town that supports it. For Metro PCS phones, the company will be willing to unlock their phones if you use a prepaid plan for 3 consectutive months, Otherwise, see if you can pay for an unlocking service that has a legal contract with either the carrier or Kyocera. Sometimes a phone manufacturer can release a limited number of unlock codes directly or thru an unlocking service.... Unlocking prices are usually under 20 dollars on ebay but not all the unlock codes are available or work so check closely with the feedback and refund policies if any.

If you buy from Metro or even AT&T they will always be carrier locked. But have about the same rules for unlocking. and there no shortage of unlockers for GSM Phones. and most the time if you buy the phone full price no contract. most the time I don think they care if it unlocked. Full price off contract its your device. but then any unlock i've always gotten from USED phones. My Hydro Vibe is my first android phone i ever bought brand new. all the others been used. lol

I Dont know if there shipping them with diff kernels on 4.3. i wouldn't know why. but last kernel on my phone was 3.4.0-g3f19dae thats when root worked on mine. if its still 4.3 with that kernel. it should work.

Odd. I do got that same exact kerneral number. I even tried to data factory wipe, still no hope. Keeps on denying. Idk What is wrong or different. Never installs root permission or app and yet does reboot.

Unless there something missing. Driver, USB Debugging being enabled. make sure recheck the steps just incase, and not just running the root program. if still nothing it puzzles me. I also have no way to play around with it. I no longer have the same version. I got the stupid update hoping it be worth it but really I hate it and wished I just kept my root on the older version.

I just hope someone unlocks it. Others I might just end up selling the phone seeing how i may end up switching carriers anyways.

I noticed something off about it. Must be usb dubugging or something connection issue based. Now it`s saying most of the time not even connected keeps popping up rsa key as in allow computer to connect and click yes and it still doesn`t find my phone anymore. Can you link a driver download link for phone plzs =D

I still have no clue what i downloaded that got me the driver. I had all kinds of stuff installed.
I am not sure if it was this one or if this one would even work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1259564&d=1344898940

but if the phone is asking to allow the computer it sound like the driver is installed and working.
you may have to install a terminal from play store, and restart the adb server on the phone.

$ adb kill-server

$ adb start-server

And try again. Good luck.

I was thrown offtrack when you mentioned terminal and so on. How do I restart the adb server? And list a terminal that I can search up on playstore =D.

Ok now were getting somewhere I noticed a good sign google verification before reboot to allow king user . But app didn`t download -_-

Yup still no king user =/

Not sure what to tell you at this point. Can't think of a reason it wouldn't with that version.
I figure things out more easily handling the things my self. But I dun have it, and mine is upgraded.
So cant turn back at this time. But really I think even if can't get it to work to leave it on that version.
Others say the update was better. but for me. I didn't care for it. I notice little perks that annoy me,
like recording semi long videos the camera app freezes or its a pain to get it to stop recording.
I dun recall these issues before the update.

but yeah for why its not rooting with the version you're on, I haven't a clue.
