**Mod note** --this thread spun off from another thread ;)

Or U could simply turn it off manually right. To each his own, its not just network shutting itself down when needed, 4 me that features like a bonus and I never get hit with one add only have option to participate in an occaisonal mini game for whatever but thts stricky if U wanna participate, its main use 4 me is the aurora engine wich believe it or not puts running apps to bed optimises and remembers most the apps it optimizes but ya its a no brainer U get better battery life if there no background apps running.. I mean it even has SU rights, and wifi? my wifi stays off.

and what could be the obvious downsides to shutting network off when not in use? I never use network unless Im browsing or whatching youtube not when I txt call nodda & I never had a single issue on the contrary acctually but thks 4 youre view like I said to each his own.

Hey Hadron and this is also 4 anyone with any input I do have a few apps set to start at boot and are protected from anykind of killing, apps like project butter and Sefix & a couple others cuz if O dont then apps I use & need on get killed so its like it defeats the purpose of having any performance/utility apps if ur gonna kill em in the process, yet maybe it would be a good idea 2 try my setup without all the performance apps running

The way I see it. Google have a dream team developing this OS so I can't see why some 3rd party play store developer could improve on that. (though I do realise that kernel and rom Devs do manage to improve on stock)

Hey inside Titanium backup there's an option to integrate system delvic with the ROM is that beneficial in any way might U knw?

The obvious downside to turning the network off when not in use is that you are off-net. So if e.g. you use any messaging system that relies on an internet connection, email, whatsapp, snapchat etc, then you can't receive messages. Not a problem when you are sleeping, but if you disconnect any time the screen is off you will be cut off most of the day as well.

As for some of the other questions, we're getting rather far from the original topic and I'd prefer not to hijack ankit_agru's thread, so it would be better to open a different thread for those.

K srry nt sure where to start new thread srry in the words of Joe dirt "I'm new here so give me a min to learn my way around my apologies. but I do have to say and unless I'm missunderstanding U you're saying (I gather) that without network/data on when screen off on etc. then I wont get messages? I myself get all my messages txts emails all that with data off so I muuuuuuuuuust be misunderstanding U on that one. Sorry 4 hijackin I'll learn my way around.

Texts (SMS) don't require an internet connection - they use a signalling system that's part of the mobile network protocols and pre-dates mobile internet.

Email etc requires an internet connection. If you turn both WiFi and mobile data off you don't have an internet connection, so in that case you cannot receive such messages - if you do, then either WiFi or data is not actually off. If you leave WiFi on it doesn't matter whether mobile data is on or not because the phone will use WiFi out of preference. If the aim is to eliminate power drain caused by apps using the internet you should turn both off (though WiFi uses less power than mobile data), but that has the consequences I described.

My bad you're definitely right about email needing data on to upload K nuff said on that note on this gentelmans thread. thks 4 the knowledge base, its a lil embarrassing not 2 know all this but I am learning fast and just want to run my Android device as effeciant as possible and help others with what I've learned. thks 4 all the info

So its been ruffly a day since I've ;uninstalled DU and the like and I gotta say battery life is taking a dive or so it seams I got a lot ah battery drainage when screen is off then when I didn't have DU. While I trust Earlymon and Hadron & all I gotta say, the proofs in the pudding. hmmmmm I'll do a lil more research.

So if apps like Battery DR. and DU are snakoil, whats a safe Battery saver or is there one?

And if Android takes care of itself and battery saving apps like Batt DR. & DU are "snakeoil" and task killers are junk then what if any method is good 4 ;killing unnecessary background processes?

I mean for running a custom rom and kernel set on Gametheorys settings to boot, my battery life is absolutely the worst of any phone I've ever owned, its like really I keep sink off, network off even when screen off, this that NOTHING helps much at all if any help, nt sure how to get the type of longevity others get on this rom, sucks.

Dont get me wrong I blame nothing no rom or nobody but what gives I mean really DU no Du this that technique & no improvement.

Android is built to manage background proceses. Some processes that are "running" are really just sitting idal so that they will launch faster and smoother. Just because let's say Google+ is running all the time doesn't mean it's using any bandwidth or battery. It is simply kept in memory so that it can launch faster and smoother. Android will learn to prioritize apps so they are ready when you need to launch them and it will remove apps from memory when room needs to be made for more apps.

Their are a few apps out their that take advantage of your memory and run down your battery, Facebook being the worst but constantly killing running apps will destroy your battery life. I use greenify for Facebook and one other app, and other than that I sit back and let Android do its thing.[emoji13] [emoji108] [emoji106]

Wow OK OK, I don't use Facebook app but to configure say an image I wanna set so I just jump on my browser and sign in and out. so has all my past "app stopping" using du hinder/damage my battery beyond recovering or can I still remedy it?

But ya never again with DU or any alike after this. & I gotta say I wouldn't be asking if I wasn't willing to listen. battery % honestly does seam juuuuuust a tad worse as far as how fast my batt drains with screen off vs on without DU than with just saying what I'm dealin with here

Use gsam battery monitor to find out what your worst offending apps are. Some 3rd party apps are designed real well and can hurt your battery life and such.
Give android a few days to re prioritize and things may level out for you.

By "in moderation" I meant don't use it on every app. Just apps like Facebook which actually do "run" in the background.
I don't doubt that DU extends your standby time by killing the naughty apps, trouble is its also killing the friendly ones and that makes your phone run less efficiently while you're using it

I recommend the best way to save almost battery is flashing custom kernel like Franco( recommended) and using amplify module on xposed and using greenify or autostart manager… if u need almost save battery do these steps.. I highly recommend thESE steps..coz am using these steps and getting more battery...hope this helps..
