Not only am I going to have to wait for the ota but then I am going to have to wait for the root.... cruel world lol ... might just root now just to mess around with something in the mean time.

Sent from my Eris

Question.....what else besides the phone do we have to keep on to receive the update?

how can caddyman be so sure those with a leaked version will get the OTA, I was doubting Verizon would ever roll this out and installed the second leak about a few weeks ago. Now I am a little worried.

We will eventually. We're a VERY small percentage of the total Eris user base. Thousands of people could have gotten it by now and we would never know. Most of them don't know what it is, or why it's better. They'll just press the update button and go on with their day never even noticing the changes 2.1 brings. Most Eris users probably don't even know what Android is, let alone what version their phone is running.

So, you've met my wife, huh??? :D

When the OTA does come, I'm not gonna have enough battery left to install it if I keep checking the way I have been....

I stated this yesterday, but I'll say it again...when the Droid OTA went out, it didn't go unitl midnight EST on it's release date. Therefore, we prolly won't see any "proof" until then.

No one is 100% sure, but the OTA updates are traditionally based on software version numbers that the system reads from your phone. If the version number on your phone is lower than the one being pushed, then the system pushes. The general concensus is none of the leaks has the correct, most up to date, version number built into them, so it will push

As to how Caddyman knows, that's probably one of hose mysteries none of us truely wants answered. He knows lots of stuff, some might even say too much. Black helicopter and tin-foil hat amounts of knowledge over there....

Thanks, from someone who is obviously much more nerdy than me... I think that is a good thing, right?

Thanks, system select should be home or auto?

Mine is on Automatic. I'd think that as long as you can access your e-mail, internet, etc., you should be fine.

I'm not sure if it works if you're connected through Wi-Fi... anyone know? Does it have to be 3G?

From Verizon's update instructions PDF:

"If you are roaming you will not receive a system update notice. You will need to enable Wi-Fi and wait for the update notice to appear"

Seems to me like wifi will work just fine, but who knows.

This is from the guy on Facebook that claimed he got the OTA.
"It took about 45 minutes to go through the process. That's 3g and not wifi...anyway, my contacts were already backed up so no big deal there, all my apps are still there. My SWYPE does not work anymore, so I'll have to find the version for eris 2.1....also, you might want to take note of your "scenes" and pages....it goes back to square one on those, it does not keep any scenes that you previously saved."

Sorry about the double post, I have no idea how to delete the other one.

This is correct. When my buddy got his 2.1 update on his Moto Droid it was about 11pm, CST. I know this because we were at the strip club at the time and he was going to take a picture of him and a stripper, and the phone started updating.

Funny story, I know, lol!
