2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

Here's one more claim for the OTA that isn't in v3...
Desk Clock intelligently dims your screen and displays the current
time while charging.

Anyone with OTA see this happening when charging?

We will probably be able to flash the official 2.1 build over our v3 leak. I'm skeptical that we will have access to the 2.1 OTA update in this first wave. That is why it is important for those that get the OTA notification to log the URL. It isn't just so people can get the update w/o waiting. It serves another important purpose - the further development of root 2.1. Builds off of the official 2.1 will likely be more stable.

Shoot, have someone set up a PayPal donation for the guy that ponies up a working URL for the 2.1 update. I'll chip in a beer for that guy.

haha amen to that ill chip in its for the good

Alright, guys... just finished going through this whole thread to quote everyone that has claimed to get the OTA. Here you go:

A hearty thanks! This is what I was really looking for. I would much rather be optimistic and go to bed tonight dreaming of waking in the morning with 2.1 ready to download.

Far better that than the alternative of realizing that it may be another indefinite period of time before the rollout continued.

I think the leak v3 does what they're describing. You just have to open desk clock and set it up that way. I can't remember for sure (I'm in the middle of a factory reset), but I think you have to change a setting to not turn off the screen while charging.

Sit back relax. The OTA has not been canceled/postponed. It is being rolled out in stages, beginning 5/11/10.

The V3 leak is the same software as the OTA.

Aww crap, and "Thanks" at the same time. Or "Thanks" and "Aww crap" at the same time.

I just dont want the update to come while im in my final. That's really the only thing im worried bout, otherwise i can wait for however long it takes.

So the VZW twitter page is lying when they say that 2.1v3 leakers will get the OTA?

Devices with the V3 software are the exact same as those with the OTA. So I don't believe they will get any notification of new software. Hence, no OTA.

I actually use that setting (leak 3) - Settings, Applications, Development, Stay Awake. I know it sounds a crazy place, but that's where it's at.

In fact, my G1 on 1.6(I think) has it too.

I'm seeing a lot of people claim that v3 is the OTA, and I'm really starting to believe it myself. Still a bit wary of the OTA though, as it's entirely possible that the possible root exploit found in the leaks has been closed in the OTA. Anyone else have any input on this?

I could just be reaching on this one...but let's say we do turn in our Eris for whatever bug/hardware issues we have. Since they stopped manufacturing on the ERIS would there be ANY Possible way they'd give us the incredible in place of the ERIS?.....i know i know i just had to ask, maybe someone had an experience with that situation.

On one hand, I'm so glad I waited with 1.5 so hopefully, this is a more polished version... on the other... I COULD HAVE HAD 2.1 WEEKS AGO! But with possibly more bugs. Hmm.

Still glad I waited. :D

Thinking out loud here:
Seeing how Verizon has finally updated Google with the latest software version for the Marketplace (i.e., copy protected apps back), it stands to reason that the latest leak's software version will be the same as the OTA update, which means those of us already on the latest leak wont receive the OTA, due to the version numbers being the same.

I guess there's always the PCD site or someone with an earlier version capturing the OTA download and uploading it, but we may be waiting indefinitely for the OTA hitting our leaked devices if indeed the version numbers didn't change.

Guess I was right after all.

They'll replace like-with-like for as long as stocks last. When there's no Eris left anywhere, then you might get an upgrade unless you offer to sleep with the sales rep or something.
