Random Thought Thread

Well I, for one, have left my personal impact on society: I have four great kids, and I trained and mentored some damn good leaders before I retired from the Navy.

Few may know my name, but many have benefited from my influence.

Thank for your service, Dngrsone. I am myself a former Marine. OOH RAH!

Thank you both for your Service to the USA! [emoji106]

My father served two tours in Vietnam, and retired from the US Army, and retired a Lt. Col.

I have the upmost greatest respect for everyone who has honorably served the USA.

Once again, thanks to you both, my father, and others who severed, that we all live in a free country!

I solute you all! [emoji106]

You don't know when though. Imagine if you did. What effect would it have on your life and how you lived it?

This thread is turning dark now.
{Mods...please forgive my Double Post}

That is really deep!

Believe it or not, I have actually thought about that, and all I can say is that there actually are some things that are better left Unknown.

Personally I think that if I knew the exact day and time of my own death, it would weigh heavy on my mind, and take a lot of joy out of my life.

What a dolt I am... Anyone who has traveled highway 101 in California for a decent distance has likely seen this:

I've driven past these things for years, and I always thought they were some style of old-fashioned street light. Even though they are placed in the weirdest, out-of-the-way locations where electricity is likely not available...

I just realized today that they are bells, as in the type of bells used by Spanish Missions from four hundred years ago.

Yes, (roughly) marking the old "King's Road" linking the earliest settlements in California. When I was little, they seemed to be nearly all present (not to say originals, but very few empty poles); And they were cast bronze, well finished. So many were stolen for scrap value, there was a period of time when the empty poles far outnumbered the ones with a bell in place. A restoration campaign was undertaken, and the replacement bells are all cast iron. Not the same, but you can only do so much, and it's the thought that counts. Yet some people still think it's cute to rip off the iron ones, sigh.

Thanks. For putting my safety ahead of your own.

Funny though. I've had a similar existential conversation in another forum recently. With an Ex-Marine. <----- Or always a Marine? Anyway, not the typical stereo-type of armed combatants that is portrayed in the movies.

I've driven past these for years...

Isn't that a California Earthquake Alarm?

Ummm, and California is not "Centrally located far from anything". It's actually quite the opposite;).

Sorry, I have a really good memory, and an eye for detail. Sometimes unbearably so.

I have an Uncle who was stationed in San Diego. He was an Underwater Welder with the Navy. Visited him a couple times.

This is put simply, but does a good job of putting it all in perspective.

Never shared a video on Drive before, you should be able to view without downloading(unless you want to). 50Mb

How Big Is The Universe?

Personally, I think if you believe earth is the only planet with life on it, you are completely out of your gourd. The size of the universe is far beyond the compression of the miniscule human mind.

California has fantastic weather, especially the San Diego area. But Californians have absolutely no idea how a stop sign works. They also don't really know anything about pizza.

And they don't have Tasteykakes or bagels (at least decent bagels) ... it's like living in the dark ages. ;)

I am centrally located far from everywhere worth being in California, to be more precise.

That is, it's a good two or three hours drive to get anywhere good...
