Root ZTE ZMAX Pro (Z981) root discussion

Considering the fact that our devices are showing different numbers, I'm not even sure if I can trust Kingroot anymore. It may never work.
 
mine was showing around 19k earlier today.

i remember on one of my old tablets the way i rooted was this tool called bin4rys root tool or something like that. ima look for it and maybe experiment.
 
I'm on T-Mobile, I wonder if it considers it to be a different device if it's on a different carrier? That'd be silly but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I googled it and found the thread at xda, the op there says it's for ics and jb

hmmm. interesting. i think that any thing different about the device could result in different numbers. things such as the carrier, dpi (idk if its true or not, but seems so), and obviously region are all factors. i would try some root methods but since theres no way to reflash stock rom im kinda just sitting and suggesting things for people to do, lmao. im just too paranoid about losing my device which is less than a week old.
 
KingRoot displays different request totals based on different version numbers of the tool itself, and above all that, it's possibly meaningless to begin with. One version I downloaded also showed rankings based on root requests...this phone was ranked at 900+ globally, with maybe 3000 or so individual requests.

The punchline is no one really knows where the threshold of sparking interest and attention from KingRoot actually lays.

I do believe the true number is in the 3k to 4k range, but again, who knows of that's good or not
 
does anyone know where i can find articles about how to start developing things like a root tool? im really considering to just try and make a root tool for us, but idk where i would even start.

I would guess that most of the exploits are found by folks that are very Linux-savvy, especially with regard to the Linux kernel.

We don't even know that the bootloader is locked. I'm starting to feel like a damn parrot having to repeat myself over and over and over. I don't get why people just assume that the bootloader is locked without evidence to support that conclusion.
 
Playing around had brief fastboot access after factory reset, i agree masterchief87 reviewing logs in recovery bootloader status unknown and oem unlock=0 now after throwing commands forever.
Also srsroot said the root z981 not.. but did break surface binaries wouldnt install i use rootchecker multiple, it states root was not done properly so something somewhere is close some apps say its rooted but def no root access.
 
i see. we should try and get fastboot working. if that happens then we'd be set, but i dont feel it'll happen. we've used all the modes the phone has to offer and theres no sign of it in fastboot.
 
Its everywhere but in logs i got the oem unlock from =1 to nothing.
And again sry for the huge pics. After factory reset i made two or three fastboot commands and took memory card out before . It was similar to another zte
 
Fastboot reboot reovery then the oem unlock didnt confirm a unlock of anykind the third or so fastboot command lost and got waiting on device. Started with adb commands. Im looking for thread where i got the idea.
 
Look in the old ZTE zmax forums guys. There was a manual root method that was discovered with that phone because it was locked down just as hard as this one is. The key to it is keeping an eye on Kingroot once it's able to root 6.0.1, THEN you'll be able to unlock this phone.
 
we might just get lucky and get a patch for fastboot in one of our next updates. just keep your fingers crossed. if this happens all of our questions will be answered about this device will be answered. from there someone can build a twrp/cwm recovery and we could flash su. and master chief is right. we really dont know if the bl is locked. lets just wait and see what happens in the upcoming weeks.
