Random Thought Thread

Just WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!
We now have a child abuse scandal concerning football coaches abusing young boys. This is on top of a scandal involving a famous TV personality having abused 100's of young kids.
What possesses a grown man to do these things? It completely wrecks the victim's life.
We live in a seriously ****ed up society.
 
The abuse of children has been going on as long as there have been children, whether it's exploitation of their labor, up to and including slavery, or for more licentious purposes. :(

All I can say is that we as a species haven't evolved as much as we'd like to think above the other animals that prey on the weak and the young for their own benefit. :thumbsdowndroid:
 
I can't pretend to understand what the heck is going on inside the mind of such an abuser, but like you say @lunatic59 we as a species are really not that evolved in lots of ways. I'm *guessing* that it's not so much a sexual aspect, but a feeling of power over someone.
I know for a fact though, that this type of abuse has a long lasting very damaging effect on the victim.
What really gets me though, is the total widespread nature of these incidents, both in terms of abuse, and the more seedy online pursuits of some people.
I fail to see why a grown man is attracted in this way to a very young person.

Attraction, no matter how perverse is beyond one's control. Whether your attracted to the opposite sex, or the same sex, or even animals or small children, it is something you do not command. However, what you do about that attraction, is entirely up to you.
That being said, anyone who intentionally harms a child, is the lowest form of life there is. The worst form punishment should greet them when they step over that line.

I just checked my astronomy programs and the Greek letters are there. There must be special fonts for astronomy then.
