In response to your comments about ads, I don't like them either. In fact I'd rather pay for a game without ads (if it's any good). So if a game offers the option to remove them with a payment, that's fine with me.
I also notice that a lot of these games, whilst fun, are very shallow i.e. the gameplay is extremely simple and/or repetitive. Have you come across any good games that offer more in-depth gameplay?
A lot of games these days seem to be clones of another idea. It's not that often we get a truly unique concept which hasn't been done before.
Great reviews though, keep 'em coming!
Thanks for the encouraging words, man
I agree to a certain extent that as long as there's an option to pay to disable ads, it is fine. But I don't like it when a developer throws so many ads into their game that you're nearly forced to pay to disable ads in order to play the game at all. It's a fine balance to cut, but luckily a lot of developers get it right too.
I agree that many mobile games are very shallow. This probably also has to do with the fact that mobile games are often played in shorter sessions at a time and mostly casually. There are some exceptions, of course, but to get more in-depth gameplay, you'd most likely have to look at MMOs / RPGs on Android. Most of these are huge money-grabs, though, and often implement a few too many in-app purchases. With that said, games like Lords of Discord (an MMO) show some promise, and Adventures of Mana, and Battleheart Legacy still hold up as great games too (they are paid games).
But yeah, it is very rarely that we see completely new concepts being tried out. But actually, the game I'm showing off today (video below) is something a bit different, although at a very early beta stage at the moment. I'm very hyped about its eventual release, though!
Today's Commentary / Recommendation: Fallen Sword (mobile beta)
Today, I am checking out the Fallen Sword Android beta build for the first time. The mobile version of Fallen Sword is still very bare-bone, but more features will be added throughout the beta, according to the developers. Much of the art is also still just place-holder.
Look at this video as more of a sneak-peak of what Fallen Sword on Android and iOS can eventually become.
