Android 2.2 Froyo rolling out for Nexus One Now!

How to update (I HAVEN'TE DONE THIS YET AND THIS COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN A BRICKED DEVICE EVEN THOUGH THE DOWNLOAD IS FROM GOOGLE.. BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!):

1. Download file from link up there.
2. Rename the file to update.zip.
3. Note that if you're using Windows and don't have "show file extentsions" turned on in the file explorer you won't see a .zip. Just rename it to "update" (no quotes, of course) because it's already a zipped file.
4. Copy the update.zip file onto your microSD card.
5. With your Nexus One off, hold down the trackball and press the power button.
6. You'll be booted into a white screen with three Android robots on skateboards. Select "Bootloader."
7. On the next screen, select "Recovery."
8. Your phone will reboot, giving you a picture of the Android robot and an exclamation point inside a triangle.
9. Now press the power button and volume up button at the same time. It could take a couple of tries.
10. Now (using the trackball this time) choose "Apply sdcard:update.zip" and let things run their course.

*sigh* if this is really out, why the hell doesn't google just release it to everyone OTA so we don't have to go through this crap anymore. Im so tempted to do this but I do not wanna screw my phone, Ill be waiting for the OTA.

Yeah man, after dishing out almost $700 after shipping, Im not ready to screw with these files and risk destroying my phone....especially my precious nexus lol.
I just wish google would release this thing ota already.

@ bigmerf...Why scared? It will be fine. This is how I updated to 2.01 on my Droid way back (am rooted now, so didn't need to do it with 2.1)...

I'mm loving the update. Taskiller reports over 230MB free ram on a boot (with some apps running). Home screen scrolling is smooth as butter and things are far faster.

Adobe Flash beta is awesome too! :D

I've been refreshing the XDA thread all day. Glad I did!

Ugh! so now that people are actually using froyo.....does this mean there should be an actual OTA update VERY soon?????
I really don't wanna manual install.

Looks like the update is a t-mobile update only. My AT&T nexus one is on a different build EPE54B, and the update did NOT work for me... I guess I will have to continue watching twitter to figure out when the correct version is out for my N1.

Oh well... So sad... Ugh...
