Help 2.1 Problems - Issues - Quirks

Did this and now I lost all my data connections....warning, make sure you tweek your phone through settings before you start farting around with the programing...

Does anyone have a fix for my no data, XDA hasn't replied to anyone with similar issues

On the same screen press menu and then more and choose enable data on bootup. My data came back after i did this.

Good God There are a lot pf post on this thing. No way I'm going to read them all, I am just to lazy to do that.

My Problems...
-Pandora freezes
-Yes true laggy landscape typing mode but the response of the.. damn what that word again....switching from landscape to potrait thing, is much more responsive.
-Calls take forever to answer and sometimes just hang up the call, a lot of lag...
-Making a call is hell as well takes so long...
-I like that Home button feature which takes all the 7 sections and zooms them out, but its pointless if it only works when you have to be on the middle screen in order to do so...
-Im missing the old gmail logo, but that just me

Thats it on my preformance so far.

Questions...
-Why is ther another navigaion app on it?
-why isnt there a turn on and off gps shortcut button?
-Is the origanl SMS app better now than handcent SMS app?

There is a widget to turn off gps

- If you have an event with any text in the BODY of the event (the BIG box, not the subject or location) when you try to share vcalendar it will fail to send via email and will make a 0 byte vcs file. Correction, after further research. What was causing this is non-alpha characters in the subject. / and : that I know of so far, suspect more. Sorry, but still a problem that those characters are ok to have in the subject until you try to share.

I was able to reset my phone back to factory settings, reinstall the 2.1 update from Sprint and finally get my phone working as it should with none of the lagginess/rebooting with various apps, etc. problems (aside from the software issues that are 'programmed' into the new OS (e.g., blue tooth probs, etc...) If anyone is willing to try, I'll post the protocol I used to get my phone working like it used to work when 1.5 was installed. Note, this will not revert phone to 1.5, will still be 2.1 regardless of reset. It just make my phone work the way it was intended to work following the new update to 2.1. Hope this helps anyone out at least as much as it did for me.
Here it goes:

-Androidious (Hero_User 2010)

Hero_User2010: Did you have BT issues prior to doing this? Did it fix THAT?

BUMP!

I would have thought that something this simple should have been resolved in 2.1. It's too bad AppBrain doesn't pick up the ball from Google, HTC, and Sprint and add a feature to 'auto-notify' like the Market app is supposed to do.

AutoSync has to be turned on for market apps to notify you of updates.

On mine at least, the home button doesn't work to do this from anything but the home screen. However, pinching inward does work on all 7

How is the Home screen button supposed to work to get that zoomed view? Are you supposed to press and hold it?

No, just a quick press should do the trick. Though I really dislike this feature and wish I could turn it off.

Is the HTC Battery widget in fact a battery hog? I've got all my settings tweeked the way they were with 1.5 and I'm still getting sub-par battery performance...

Also on a side note, I noticed that when I first installed 2.1 after completing the process, Windows notified me that the program may not have installed correctly, I in all my excitement to get to play with 2.1 ignored this notification...end result serious lag in almost every task brought up, from the program drawer to the keyboard.... Finally I got so freaking frustrated that I went back reinstalled 2.1, waited for windows to give me the notification, and then re-reinstalled 2.1 one using Window's recommendations. Long story short...serious, I'm talking serious improvement in performance! Almost no noticeable lag anywhere, with the exception being the landscape keyboard, thats the same as it was on 1.5.

For those that are having issues, and did get the notification similar to the one I was giving, just for shiggles try reinstalling 2.1, it might make a world of difference ;-)

When I used the battery widget on 1.5, it was a total battery hog! I am scared to try it on official 2.1, however.

Im curious.. Is the 2.1 problems only occurring on the hero.. or is the droid eris having this issue too? Does this mean the EVO 4G with 2.1 have these issues? I doubt sprint and htc will release a phone with all these issues..

I've had no problems using the volume button to snooze. Something else is amiss.

It seems to depend on a number factors. I've seen this happen for some alarms but not others. Very odd....hopefully, others will figure out what other factors must be present to cause this problem.

At least one issue seems to span across multiple devices: the issue with the phone only ringing once before going to voicemail (it may ring 3-4 times for the caller, but the phone owner only gets one ring). But this happened with earlier versions of Android on other phones (like Eris), so it seems to be Android-related - and not version-related.

Which makes me wonder if anyone (Google or HTC or whomever) is tracking all the problems with Android and its various versions. Without one party being responsible for the OS (e.g., Apple), it gets messy.

Anybody having that problem should first try changing the slot index cycle by getting your MSL # from Sprint

Sprint tech support called me at 10:00 last night, to see if I was still having problems. I told them I was & they wanted me to do a hard reset on my phone. I told them I would rather not do that, esp considering it's not likely to fix the problems. They assured me it will fix most of the problems. I wasn't able to do it with them on the phone last night so they were supposed to call me back at 11am today. I'm still waiting for that call back! Not that I'm in any hurry to do a hard reset, it would just be nice to feel like they're at least trying & not giving the old "We're working on it" line. I honestly don't think there's anything at all they can do about the problems right now, other than send me a new phone that still has 1.5 on it. I'd rather they just get the problems fixed so MY phone can work the way that it's supposed to.

Just curious, and this may not make a bit of difference BUT - there seems to be such a huge disparity between those who are having issues and those who are not. Would the 'With Google' phones make any difference with this update vs the older ones? Just a thought...

I doubt that's it, I was under the impression that they were hardware identical.

I think that the disparity comes from the infinite number of ways that people can use their phones. What is a huge problem for one person may be a feature or application that isn't ever used by someone who thinks the phone is great. Facebook, Bluetooth, and others are all things that some people rely on, some people could care less about.

Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe that everything on my phone should work 100%, whether I use it or not. I'm just saying that there are a million variables involved in why something works for one person and not for another.

There are minor differences from what I've gathered... such as PRI, which audio chips it shipped with, ... and some other minor things that make absolutely no difference to me. :)

Yeah, that's what I would believe, also. I did some more searching and found some very early threads about this. There does seem to be a Rev0/RevA difference, but no one knew if this pertains to software, hardware, etc.
I'm willing to think it doesn't matter and as you said, it's how folks use there phones. But who knows?!

So, I'm assuming this is a 2.1 thing b/c I never had the issue before, but my mobile network randomly disconnects. I noticed it when I wasn't getting emails and I tried to do a manual refresh, but I was told I needed to turn on my mobile network. This really stinks when I'm waiting on important emails.

I no longer have all the locations that I had in the default weather program. Any suggestions without going to an add on app like weatherbug?
