Help SMS Incorrect Contacts Issue

I'm one of the many that has this problem, the only difference is that the particular facebook friend that is causing the problem doesn't have a mobile number listed in their account profile.
I've sent an email to HTC support but had no reply as yet - I know it's not a massive problem but it would be nice to be able to sort out. I guess I'll have to live with it.
 
I have this problem also with texts from orange. It was showing from a facebook contact. I removed him (note to self to re-add him later lol) and It was replaced with another facebook contact !!! . I cant see what number it was sent from to make a new contact with that number..
 
Noob here and sorry for being so thick, but my facebook account is really for networking and self promotion. I'm a dj and also promote dance nights so I have 100's of friends, a lot of which I hardly know and have no need to have phone numbers for.
Ironically most of my proper friends who areon my facebook friendslist do not have their phone numbers on their facebook accounts.
I only got the phone yesterday and I'm yet to get to grips or have a good play with it, but I cannot find a proper phone book.
Where is it and how do I add people off my old phone ??

Ironically when I get messages off T-Mobile they come up with someone who's phone number I actually have but who hasn't got it listed on his facebook account lol.
 
i'm probbaly just missing a simple setting somewhere but, since moving all of my contacts from being phone contacts to Googlemail, all of my numbers have appeared in the American format i.e. 000-000-00000 I can still make calls and send texts so it isn't effecting the funcionality, but it is annoying.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a setting i've missed, be it on the phone or in G-Mail?

"Dear Steve There are two ways around this issue, one is to create a contact for T-Mobile with the number listed as T-Mobile or to add a google contact for your friend and adding a fake number to said contact. Best regards, Bjorn D HTC"

T-Mobile got back to me to say they had called HTC support (they will have a 2nd line direct line I guess) and they said that HTC were aware of the issue and are working on a fix...

As Steve said, this seems to be the only way around it at the moment. I dont check forums often but if someone could send me a PM or something when a fix finally comes out, that would be great!

Thanks for the info on this, I called my operator (Sure) and they thought I was crazy. Looks like I'm not the only one experiencing this problem after all ;)

Ha, i get a weekly lloydstsb bank statement from my grandaughter, lol

She came in via fb, i'll check her contact number and edit it as suggested.

I found the same problem.. SMS from bank and Orange are listing as a FB contact!

Fix: I turned off all the Google sync. My contacts and calendar were imported by syncing with Exchange server so I had only intended having the Google sync as a back up. Once I had turned it off, bingo everything worked perfectly..

I hope it won't be to long before carriers other than Vodafone UK provide this update.
Even though I've removed the FB contact that was always showing up, I receive SMSs from several businesses with names instead of numbers as the sender and they all show up as the same one, so it appears it's not just an issue with FB contacts.
 
I get this problem on messages that I receive from telcos and others.

Including messages that I send myself: My company sends text messages on behalf of clients such as banks. Our servers have a direct SMPP connection to the messaging servers of the telcos here. When sending a message, we don't use a regular phone number, instead we use assigned short codes, such as 123 or 111 and such. In some cases, we use an alpha mask, e.g. Acme, Shopping Mart, Cool Bank, etc.

The invalid sender info happens only on messages sent from short codes. In this case, Android tries to interpret the sender info as a valid international-format number, fails and goes on to do quirky things. If I get (or send myself using SMPP) a message saying: "Dear Customer, Your account is overdue", Android will show it as "Dear: Customer, Your ..." Now, if you have a direct or FB contact such as "John Dear", Android will link that to the message and show it as the sender.

I hope someone at Google / HTC can figure this out and make a fix for it.
 
The latest round of desire phone updates should fix this issue. If you do still have this issue do a manual check for updates on your phone:

Settings > about phone > system software updates > check now
 
I have "Unfriended" the contact on Facebook, turned of Facebook sync (after syncing one last time in order to sync the deletion of this friend from the phone) and I'm still getting this issue!! Have I missed something?
 
Unbranded phone on tmobile and still have the problem, wives on vodafone has no problem.

Carriers can fix, but htc can't????????????

I've got exactly the same problems. Texts from anyone not in my phonebook come through from a facebook contact.
Anyone know where you stand with regards to consumer rights? I'm on orange and bought from the car phone warehouse.
Carphone warehouse told me that issues with network I have to take up with Orange and issues with phone I take up with them. They told me to do a few things of which none have worked and although I don't want to cancel contract with orange does anyone know where you stand with asking for an change of phone.
They have said they will send off for repair and investigation but obviously this is not going to solve.
