It should be noted that lot of goodness brought in by 1.6, and perhaps some from 2.0 has already been provided by the SenseUI.

However, that only applies to high-level stuff like applications. Newer android versions bring in lot of low-level optimizations - that's why I'm looking forward to 2.1 on Hero. :)

My mate just got the HTC Desire and it awesome with 2.1....Google Navigation rocks.

It may be some time after an official UK release before 3 tinker with it and roll it out.

The goalposts keep moving!! Seriously, how hard would it be for HTC to publish the update schedule - I'm not talking exact dates just an idea of the order of who's getting it when.

Instead we always seem to be stabbing in the dark.
 
In all fairness, HTC said June and the rollout has started (albeit in the native territory but that's fair enough!).

It's coming and if you've got a sim-free device it can't be long now. As for the network specific versions that's anyone's guess but that's up to the respective networks.

Phones obtained through 3 (not sim-free devices 'on' 3) will likely be the ones who will have to wait the longest if historical updates are anything to go by.

We're almost there!
 
That is of course horribly true!

But at least we now know that it's begun.

I've been trying to just forget about it and wait for the phone to alert me but it's impossible not to check around constantly for any news!

You're right of course, I've just become horribly impatient and mistrusting of HTC after all this time :D

My point was why not just say what the schedule is, it would cut down on a hell of a lot of emails, tweets etc...sometimes these big corpartions don't do themselves any favours!!
 
The annoying is that there is a team of people working on this who know EXACTLY what's going on and will have at least a rough idea of when it'll be ready to go.

But then I'd rather they spend every second getting it ready rather than wasting time keeping people update.

A weekly blog or something similar would have been a nice touch after a big outcry from Hero owners.

It still galls me that the front page of the HTC UK website shows how well the Hero was received. Wouldn't it have been perfect for them if they'd rewarded the buyers of the phone with awesome service too?

Anyway, I'm putting my money on this Friday for unbranded/sim-free phones.

I was wondering this from the start.

The best general concensus is that the phone checks for updates when it goes online. Whether that's once a day/week etc doesn't seem to be clear.

I've not seen any info following the Taiwanese update telling how the update arrived.

I did see this russian site which shows photos of the update and that you'll need 25mb free on the phone but that's about it.

this might not be good for my battery life it is trys to download the update from over night as i offten trun of the Wifi to save battery power and all i get get where i live is GPRS!

I did manage to over heat the Phone by setting it to upload 20 Pics to facebook then put it in my pocket and walked out side where it was 27c and sat in the sun, the phone lost the Wifi connection and tried to do the upload via GPRS and overheated :P
 
Still pretty vague but it is on Friday which seems to tie in with recent updates.

I'm still sure that the dates may be different depending on whether your device is operator specific or sim free.

The last 'official' comment was that Belgium/Holland would see it this week.

And for the record, the original german article says nothing about a phonecall to HTC. The person in question 'got the news' from HTC but even that is a bit vague.

As usual people like to add their own little extras to facts!

Having read through the comments (I speak German), the article writer is quite adamant about the fact he's had information direct from a reliable (female) source at HTC. He insists he wouldn't have been so specific or even posted the article if it was just speculation.
 
Well at least we know its not too long now. V excited about it, but probably not as frustrated about the lateness since I only got wind of it a couple of weeks ago. One thing I hope the update does it speed up the writing speed on this forum, coz I'm doing this from my hero and just the typing is very laggy :(
 
I wonder what are you guys running on your heroes if your typing is laggy. I am running stock 1.5 rom and the keyboard is very swift, the only limiting factor being speed of my (sometimes fat :) ) fingers. I even have the vibration feedback (is it "haptic"?) enabled.

I'm running stock 1.5 version, but I can often be almost a full line typed before it writes text to the screen, which is annoying at times, but it's not consistent, which is equally annoying!

This month.

Semi-confirmed rumours that Germany is getting it next Friday (18th), Holland/Belgium was supposed to be this week (still may be).

So very very soon.

Not reading too much into these unconfirmed reports, but if they are true, issuing updates on a Friday only, one country/area at a time...hmmm this is going to go on long past this month :p
 
thank you thats all that was needed. though if it doesnt come by the time my warrenty is up them im guna root or at least attempt to lol.
