Root www.unrevoked.com Went Live

For me, I just rebooted and when I open up ConnectBot and type 'id' I am a user called app_97 (LOL!!) and then when I type 'su' I get automatic root. 'id' now shows root (0). :D

So I would say it IS sticking!
 
So wait do you have to enable SU each time you reboot? Because I loose SU and have to re-run unrevoked to get tethering or other apps that need root or super user to run.
 
SOrry for the noobie question but i want to make sure i have this clear before i proceed

- install unrevoked to root so i can get the tethering app working

Now my question is, if i uninstall it does it equal unroot as in my phone returns to stock state, (i can take it in to sprint store, warranty active etc?)

I also was looking for the same kind of answers. Im trying to learn what to do but there seems so many dif. ways to root the EVO as of today with so many dif sites using their own ways. I assume Unrevoked is the easiest yet, as it seems like it is. Also if using their root method could I now install dled apps2sd and custom fonts, colors, etc.? And What is the easiest way to uninstall incase it's needed to go back to Sprint?

I got root to stick.

I guess you have to select "OK" from the allow unrevoked super user permissions. Even if you don't, apparently it seems to get root, it just doesn't stick on reboot.

My little anti virus program has popped up before, before I could see the SU menu asking me for permission so I had never clicked it. Now if i click the Super User icon in the apps menu, I SEE the EVO icon on the list of allowed stuff and it sticks on reboot now.

I assume if I click on that item and remove its permissions, then reboot, root will be gone.
 
yeh there's no correct answer on how to remove unrevoked. no body has confirmed removal of unrevoked by uninstalling.

also my unrevoked is sticking. i rebooted the phone after installing and found that upon booting, it's still rooted.
 
noob here. i will i know if my phone was rooted? i dl it and install it, so how can i see if it worked?


edit: never mind i see the super admin app. and the over clock is working
 
So strange, tried Unrevoked 1.1 on my Evo. It rooted and stuck the second time I rebooted, but now my camera won't work at all. I hope it isn't borked... Trying different ways to get it back running again. I guess it's a hard reset if not...

Update: Uninstalled Unrevoked and now my camera works. No idea what happened. Think I'll wait a bit on rooting my Evo until there's a real reason (FroYo). :-)
 
Does anyone think the guys at unrevoked will achieve full root with write access to /system while in android?
 
Root is not sticking, I am using WiFi Tether and Overclock Widget and when i reboot I have to run Unrevoked again to root before either the Wifi or Overclock to work again. I've tried this several times now.
 
Do you guys realize this is not really a proper root? You can't even install custom ROMs because this method can't write to system partitions, even outside of the OS.
 
Not everyone roots to use Custom ROMs. Some people just want to root to be able to use apps that require root (ie WiFi Tether, Titanium Backup, MyBackup Pro)
 
ok so i just installed unrevoked and this is my first ever root/ android phone so im not sure if it was supposed to be this easy but all i did was put it on my SD in root directory and i pressed start to root then it asked if i wanted to allow superuser and i did then it went back to the main screen with the start button... is it not supposed to reboot? or whats up with that? sorry im a noob

For the time being I just wanted to be able to run su. A few apps require it and I like being able to do it easily. When more tried and true third party ROMs come out then I will mess with that.

Same problem here. Just downloaded it, installed it, tested it with wifi tether, it all works. But, it is not sticky after a reboot.

Also, how does one go about doing an "uninstall"?

2nd install was sticky for me. Odd, but oh well. Also, I guess if I want to ever uninstall Unrevoked I can just uninstall via,
Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage applications.

Yes that is correct, also uninstall the SuperUser app. I actually uninstalled everything because with Unrevoked, Superuser, Wifi Tether and Overclock Widget going my phone was getting really buggy and games stopped working. After I uninstalled everything my phone is running awesome again.

Same here. I had an app disappear, Gmail notifications stopped working, and a couple other flaky behaviors. Eventually uninstalled all of it and things are working well again. I may do it again sometime if I really need wifi tethering but the nice thing about it is that I can just install unrevoked over the air and install wifi tethering right then as well. Until then I will just use PDANet for those internet emergencies.
 
EVO 4G, installed and worked fine. I love the fact that I can reboot and take away the root. I only need it when I need to use WIFI, which is not every day and maybe a few days out of the month when I travel.

Plus I can always just reinstall it by going to my browser downloads. Very quick and easy to do.
