Battery problems, quirks and issues: Read first.

My battery problem is not going away. I did fully charge and discharge the phone 3 times. The phone was on the charger for 5 hours in my last attempt. I started using it at 8:00am, it was down to 15% at 11:30. I sent one text, played one music video, no calls and played one song on speaker phone. No wifi running, no gps. I use App Killer to kill of procs. I know it will last a long time on 15%, but not long enough and the phone gets flaky at this time as it is set to dim, etc. I will try one more power cycle before I return it.

My phone just shut down at 2:09. So 6 hours and 10 minutes with almost no usage and the phone is dead. Good Grief! First the Hero, now this.

you mean we shouldn't expect to find what we're looking for without doing a little reading to find what we're looking for... since there are four previous pages listing the same problems people are talking about here? lol
No, I meant you're always gonna get those folks who only read the thread title, then immediatly hit reply and do their rant without reading any of the previous posts.;)

Found somethign strange today. After waking up this morning I noticed the usual drop to 90% right after pulling off the charger, so I decided to put it back on, and of course it flipped over to 100% a few minutes later. So no biggie, I watched some videos, surfed the web...etc. Battery dropped to 80%. Then I thought, hey maybe the battery will get a better charge by using the USB connection on a computer. It is a slower charge as the power just trickles to the battery. Well after attaining 100% I pulled it off the PC at 11:30am... it is still reading 100% at 3:00pm. This is the first time I have gotten 100% to last more than 30 minutes, and I have been getting on the internet and doing some other small things, not much usuage, but still... 3 1/2 hours @ 100%... What do you all think?

went to 90% @ 3:30 so that 4 hours at 100%... we'll see for the rest of the day if it stays consistent.

Good info Adrift...I will try when I get home tonight.

Another thing, who all with these more sever problems are using Taskillers??? I used it on the Hero but have not felt the need to do it on this phone. If the phone is getting warm in your pocket, something is definitely wrong!!!

Ok, sounds real good to me now. But tell me this, would we be able to upgrade the Android OS software from 1.6 to the new 2.0 later on in time??? Can we do this? Or are we always stuck with the 1.6 version forever?

Out of curiosity I turned off bluetooth today after I got the phone off the charger and 10 hours after unplugging I'm at 70%. Not bad!

Not sure. I hope so, but their are other threads that go into this.

I didn't check this forum until several days after I purchased my moment.:( So I have done a bad job at 'conditioning' it. Today it has been running for almost 10 hours now, but 6 of that has been under the 15% mark. This is my 2nd day running it to zero so hopefully it will help.

If it doesn't, does anyone have any ideas how to reset this thing so I can 're-condition' it?

I got just over 30 hours of uptime on the last charge before it died.

Included:

  • 3 hours of phone use
  • 120 texts
  • 3 youtube vids 6+ mins long
  • 15 mins of google map use
  • 2+ hours of internet browsing
  • several tweets
  • 6 pictures + uploading to facebook
30+ hours of uptime. On a smartphone. That's pretty great.

I will say this. I got the phone yesterday and As soon as I got it I charged it on the computer at work via usb. It lasted til late last night. I charged it on the ac plug over night and it was half way down today by 1030am. I set it to charge via USB again just because I have an hour drive home and I like to be safe. Don't have a car charger in my vehicle yet for the "Moment". I has been fully charged for nearly an hour and I took it off. Bluetooth is on just cause I answer my phone at work with the headset and have taken two calls. I think that it definitely likes the USB charge better than the AC charge. I also notice that the screen stays on when it is fully charged if still plugged in... This morning when I woke up it said fully charged. I unplugged it since the screen was on most of the night it dropped while I was getting my daughter ready for school. I plugged it back up and it was fully charged again in about ten minutes. So from 6:45am to 10:30 it went to less than half. So many different things can be going on. I don't bother to check the awake time and what not simply because if I don't know it is one less thing to say "HEY!" about. I will charge it tonight on the USB at home and see what the outcome is in the morning.

I would be happy to upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6 at this point. Maybe the non-sleeping problem would go away.

Just a few minutes from hitting the 12 hr mark now... 4hrs 'normal' and 8hrs 'below 15%'. What the heck?

I have a question for those of you that have done a good job of conditioning your batteries. About how much 'normal' (above 15%) run time are you getting?

I just finished charging to 100%. I checked spare parts and it is saying phone is awake 99.5 % even when I put it in standby for a few minutes. Check and it is still nearly 100% awake. I had WiFi on. I turned it off and now the phone is sleeping in standby.

Now the big thing to me is I read all the time, Turn off WiFi, Turn off Bluethooth, turn off GPS, Don't use weather. Ok then why the crap get a phone like this if you cannot use the phone for anything except to make a call. Sorry, I use Bluethooth, WiFi is faster so I want to use it as well. GPS I could take or leave, but I am sure there are many who want to use it a lot. Why have it otherwise. After about 30 minutes I am on 90% which is better than it has been, but not being able to use these features IMO is totally UNACCEPTABLE and fixes need to happen. This is my wife's phone, I have the Hero but want to switch to This one due to the keyboard and the memory leaks the Hero has. I guess I will have to just pick the lesser of two evils, I just cannot decide which that is right now.

On the 30 hour run, it dropped to 80% in 15 mins, then down to about 50-40% within an hour or two, and then held for pretty much the rest of the day. Ran at 15% for 10 hours, and at under 15% for 3 hours.

The problem with that is when it hits 15% (even though it is better than that) certain programs will not open because they think it is actually at 15%. I am sure (hopeful) an update will fix this

Mine doesn't give me problems until it gets below 15%. Right at 15% everything is still fine.

I posted another post about on another GPS thread: Bottom line was to delete the weather widget, then just go to apps/ weather, and enter your zip code. From there, push n hold on that location and make it your "home". That will dis-able the "my location" feature that that is always pulling on your GPS, and simply use your zip instead. Just my opinion, but I think that will save on a lot of GPS pull from using the "stock" weather widget that always pulls on your GPS location and drains a lot of batt.

Regarding the GPS.. Regarding Google Maps... I posted another post last night about my call with Sprint Tech (look it up from my profile).
UPDATE: I
1) turned off GPS and Wireless location
2) went to Market and downloaded Google Maps again
3) turned on GPS and wireless location and opened Google Maps, and went to it's settings/ My location and it locked on my correct location w/ in 3 seconds.
The google maps that comes on the phone is pre-loaded... You might want to try a download from the android market (no un-install of the previoius app required), and it might work better for you.
Just my opinion and experience from one day.

Personally, I would recommend against using the default weather widget just because its ugly.

If you must have a weather widget, use Beautiful Widgets which will give you a flip clock with weather ala HTC Hero, or get the Weather widget - Donate off market. Which will give you the option of sevetal different widgets including the flip clock. You have far more control over how often these widgets will pull GPS and data

I will however be trying out your Maps suggestion and see if that makes any difference.

I Tried this with Google Maps but it would never find my location. Can GPS be fixed with a SW update or are we just stuck with it like it is

I seem to recall seeing an ad where the weather app makes the screen get raindrops on it that are 'wiped' away if its raining in the area. Is that what the hero's weather app does? If so, does the Beautiful Widgets do that? I like the default weather widget, its simple but informative, but I'm a sucker for stuff like the rain animation thing.

Yeah, that was the Heros weather widget. While it doesnt have the wiper effect, its pretty close to the HTC Flip Clock with weather. Just without all the animations.

Just to try it out, I charged my phone while off last night. I unplugged first and turned the phone on, it started at 80%, didn't register any higher. I also notice that charging my phone on the USB-based car charger I am currently using on the 25 min drive to work in the morning does not get the phone back to full charge, even though the phone has been off the charger all of 10 mins. I think the wall chargers we have may not be puttig out enough juice to fully charge us up... I'm going to try charging via my computer overnight this time and then tomorrow I'll try my wife's Pre charger.
