I am very new to the android world. I recently purchased the HTC Aria. When I turned on the Aria, the clock was not displayed. How do I get it back?

Tonight my phone said that my SDCard was unmounted so I opened up the phone and took it out and put it back in, however the phone read "SDCard Damaged." I then plugged it into a friend's phone and had the same error. Shortly after I plugged my phone into my computer but it wasn't picking it up...

I am thinking about updating my rooted aria to firmware 2.2. can i do this? is there a root for 2.2? i heard that with this new firmware, you can actually now install programs on your sd card. my internal memory is full, and i can't even download e-mails now.
