1.72.405.3 RUU issues

Hello,

Today i also got the notice that there was an update. I decided to download and install. While installing it suddenly displays a phone icon with a questionmark. After that the phone reboots and has not applied the update. I know this because I can still download and install the update again.

So..

- I unrooted my desire HD
- Reset to factory defaults

--> another try... still the same icon halfway the update...

- Formatted sd-card
- Reset factory defaults

--> another try.. stull no luck.

Anyone got an idea what is going on? (It's about this update 1.72.405.3 and over the air)

Hi Hannemaster,

Did you happen to remove installed stock apps previously? Using Visionary and Titanium Backup or some other method?

Seems like that is the issue, the update looks for installed apps to update and when it doesn't find them, it gives an error.

I'm almost 100% sure this is why my update is failing... others have had similar issues.

I solved the problem by disabling synchronization account "htc sense"
maybe it will help someone)

I had the same issue and the same solution. it drained my battery in just a few hours and I had noticed that the sync icon had been on constantly since the update... almost like it was having trouble connecting but not timing out. (that's just a guess tho ;)) Hope my battery life improves now.

redrox2110 : hello i am a new user here and i am a new user with the android mobile phones .. i have an htc desire hd and i deleted stock applications from my DHD ... i cant update to the new system software its failing everytime what can i do? how can i get the update and make my phone back to normal ? please help me i am stuck here !! thank u so much and god bless

Seems like I'm having a major CPU problem. My system_server is using every bit of CPU it can all the time, so my battery is dead in just a few hours even when the screen is off.

I've disabled every possible network sync but still have auto-sync on like people have suggested here, I have USB debugging on, I've disabled live wallpapers, wifi, gps and bluetooth. I have tried this with USB debugging off but it didn't make a difference.

Problem started after this update. Any suggestions?

Have you gone into Settings > Accounts & Sync > HTC Sense and then turned off any checkboxes and set to manual update other options? That's what I did to fix this.

Sync HTC Sense - Unchecked
Sync HTC Hub - Unchecked
Update when opened - Unchecked
Update schedule - Manual

You might want to try removing the battery to make sure this process is killed. Reboot wasn't doing it for me.

Hello, I'm a new user here and quite new to the smartphone world. I have just upgraded my DHD, but I am now experiencing lots of lag/stutters while I don't have many applications open. HTC Sense sync is also turned off....

Can anyone help me on how to lose the lags?

Why has this thread been moved to the root forum? Nothing to do with root surely??

Anyway, something is now killing my battery with this update. It totally empties over night despite going into aeroplane mode, or maybe aeroplane mode is making something try continuously to update?

Well I'll be damned! Bolded thing dropped CPU usage from 100% to 15%. All the checkboxes were unchecked but the Update schedule was still on 1h.

Thank you!

Check your setting in accounts and syncing. There seems to be a problem with HTC sense constantly trying to access the server - ergo draning battery power quickyly.

This new update seems to have resolved some problems and made some things better but introduced so very stupid problems that should have been spotted before it was released. Seems like quality control went home early for Christmas and didn't want to stay and check this update 100% before push.

what does the HTC sense actually cover??? what is effected if sync is turned off.

The HTC sense in theory should sync everything on your phone, i.e. Apps, your apps data, you sms etc to the HTCSense.com website so you can access your stuff there.

For me HTCSense does not work.. LOL.. And I refuse to delete my account etc as it should work seemlessly without all this headache.

However back to the update, I get a lot of syncing as well, but it usually happens whenever I install an app or if I received messages, basically whenever I get something new, and it does seem to sync a hell of a lot more. I have mine on push... but I usually turn off sync if I am not connected to WIFI.

Also noticed a lot of reboots. Also it does seem the HTC Sense application crashes a lot as well (the GUI stuff). Got an exception message but it rebooted before I could note it down.. LOL.

Think HTC needs to come up with a fix kinda fast.. HAHAH.. very unstable now. Still usable I guess.

Hello,

i've had the exclamation mark problem aswell :S (Update stuck while installing...) I have removed some stock apps with Visionary+ and Titanium backup. If this might be the problem, how can i re-install these apps? I really would like to get the updates (i think i'm missing 2 now), because i see that it fixes some important issues.

Thanks
Josh

Agree completely... move it back to the front page!!! All issues for the update should be visible for everyone to stop duplicated threads

Strange, I had the sms thing before the update, where sms popup would show the message, but the built in message reader would say I had not read it, just started to happen all of a sudden, then after uninstaling sms popup and reinstaling it it was all fine again. No issues with sms so far after the update, but I have noticed a massive drop in battery performance since the update, will try the htc sense sync thing.

Also noticed that the pop up for wifi and bluetooth being turned on or off is not coming up now, when you switch them on or off, although the popup for the bluetooth headset connected or disconnected still shows up.

in relation to this messaging problem...when you are typing out an sms and you select an area of the message to add text to i am now getting a blue symbol pointing to where i am inserting... is there a way to turn this off as its too big and doing my head in!

I think it is green right???

nah this is HTC copy and paste GUI thingy. Don't think you can disable it unless you download a new keyboard. But I like it, it is easier to see where the cursor is pointed...

Has anyone else had sound problems since this update? I have no sound whatsoever (music, video, ringtones, notifications via headphones or speaker). Also when I play music the timer goes at double or triple speed.

Both problems happened a few days after the update on my unrooted Vodafone desire Jr.

Any help greatly appreciated!

TADJ, yup sometimes notification doesn't sound. A quick reboot solves it... LOL... there are loads of bugs in this release.. HAHA

Mine's doing the same - plus SD card now fried so all photos music etc lost.

I also had problems with my texts and with all my ringtones reverting to standard from my music ones. I didn't realise I'd lost my sd card capability until I came to use the camera a couple of days later. So you guys with problems with your ringtones - is your SD card still working?

Why is this thread moved to rooted phones as my phone is not rooted and the problem seems to apply to all phones and not just the rooted ones. Please could you move it back to a more general thread so people can find it more easily?

Exasperated, nope no problems with my sdcard... have you tried remounting it. Sometimes that works....

If not, maybe you should use some recovery tool on your SD card if they have been deleted. That way you can get the files that were on the phone.

Hi
I'd love to try a recovery program for my sd card, but I can't get the computer to recognise it now either. A brand new sd card works ok in the Desire HD - for now at least - but how can I try to recover/reformat my old one - I have no idea how to do any of that. Some people a lot more tech savvie than me talk about FAT 32 partition - what's that?
Any ideas why my SD card fried? They are too expensive to keep going through them. And I do have other bugs since the update too. Not just the SD card...
