So in that article it says he reached 3.something MBPS on average, ( who knows how many speedtests he took though) with a peak of just higher than 7.
Still not faster than WiMax.
But HSPA+ may come with a big downer: usage caps. Today's 3G networks are so overloaded that the carriers slap 5-gigabyte caps on monthly usage, mostly to prevent people from using them as primary home connections and clogging up the lines.
I'm not even interested on which carrier is faster. I would think for a mobile device, those speeds are enough. I'm more concerned about this quote
Limiting my use might not sit well with me even if I don't think I'll even come close to it. And with the congestion means that I'm sharing the entire bandwidth with a lot of people therefore slowing down the speed.
Not faster than Wimax???? Did you read the article???
LOL! He tested Wimax at the same time, same place, and posted the numbers. The HSPA+ was faster. It had faster average upload and download speeds, and faster peak upload and download speeds.
I feel the 10 dollars is not a problem since theres no 5gb data cap with the 10 dollar fee witch is worth it alone to me.
Give me the 5 GB cap, and if I go over it then charge me an extra $10 that month and give me unlimited data for the month. That would be cool. But I just can't justify paying an extra $40 per month for the same exact service I am getting right now (not in a 4G area).
I think that's an excellent idea. Much better than being charged $10 automatically even if you haven't used up all that bandwidth.
OR
Charge us $10 for the 4G but let us tether our devices even just one device at a time.
Here's the Sprint Evo event in New York- they put an HD2 right next to an Evo and did speed tests on both, the HD2 was faster (at Sprint's New York Evo party, wow)

I wasn't as concerned about the aparent slow 4G speeds at the event, because I use Sprint 4G on my laptop in Phiadelphia, and I get speeds of 6mbps-10mbps down, so there's no reason that the EVO 4G can't pull that off in optimum conditions.
Here's a T-Mobile HD2 speed test:

Wait til T-Mobile releases their Project Emerald phone (rumored to be the Samsung Galaxy S) that is actually made for their HSPA+ network.
YAY! You posted a video from a slanted tech site that filmed the HD2 on a speed burst. Woohoo!
And in at that conference, it wasn't real 4G. 4G WiMax network isn't even up in NYC yet. It was a "temporary" One tower they set up specifically for the conference, and didn't have the backhaul to support all those users. That's nowhere near a real world test or average.
Try again.
No question, not having a cap is a major plus for Sprint. I can certainly agree with that. I don't think it's a big enough plus to require $10 per month, per line, but it's a plus.

What do you mean all those users? There were only like 4 or 5 Evos there that I can see. How many users is a tower supposed to be able to support?
Don't blame me if Sprint couldn't get their own event set up well enough to beat a T-Mobile 3G phone.
While it may be true that the Wimax will be faster than it was inside that event when it's all said and done, it's also true that the HD2 isn't even made for HSPA+ and when T-Mobile releases a phone that is made for it, it will get way better speeds than the HD2.
Then go with a diff phone/company if thats the way you feel, you have stated how you feel already, stop beating a dead horse and just go w/ what suits your needs. If you dont like the charges then ITS YOUR CHOICE NOT TO PAY THEM BY NOT USING THIS PHONE, simple as that! no need to keep bugging everyone else on here w/ your rants and raves b/c for the most part, the rest of us dont give a flying F***, we have made up our minds either to get the Evo or not already and bitching about it on here is not going to make a damn bit of difference to be compleatly honest with you, try talking to sprint themselves and do like other people are doing and getting that fee taken off their bill when the phone comes out. [/rant]
HSPA+ is backwards compatible, meaning the devices that support HSPA reap the benefits of HSPA+
And there is a difference between a tower and a femtocell. And they were there to demo the evo, not the 4G network.
Going back to the hspa+ vs wimax debate, please see this post.
As for the $10 extra fee a month that some are complaining about, it just doesn't make sense to me. This phone is like no other out there. Even without the 4G service, its an outstanding phone. Including the 4G service its simply knocks out anything out there. Paying $10 extra a month for the service is nothing. With discounts (plenty if you search for them) that $10 is offset to $0 or less.
TS out
Secondly, your radio will be capped at 7mbps max speed. Because of battery life and fcc regulations.
So your max speed is 7mbps, when 22% or less of the spectrum is being used. When greater then 23% is being used, the speeds will be forced down to 1.2 mbps. (I am trying to keep is simple)

EDIT: Doesn't the Evo has the very same 4.3" screen as the HD2?
I believe they have a TFT LCD, same size, same resolution.
No the screen size is the same but the evo has a TFT LCD as SprintFun said but the Incredible has an AMOLED screen.
Anyway, I don't mean to keep derailing the thread, just wanted to clear that up to avoid reader confusion between the two devices![]()
