10 bucks is the deal breaker samsung galaxy s

Going back to the hspa+ vs wimax debate, please see this post.

As for the $10 extra fee a month that some are complaining about, it just doesn't make sense to me. This phone is like no other out there. Even without the 4G service, its an outstanding phone. Including the 4G service its simply knocks out anything out there. Paying $10 extra a month for the service is nothing. With discounts (plenty if you search for them) that $10 is offset to $0 or less.

Excellent post. That post you linked to has some very good info in it.

Unfortunately, he is comparing hypothetical best case scenario for Wimax to hypothetical worse case scenario for HSPA+. If we look at what is out there right now, that is not what is happening (T-Mobile's HSPA+ has been faster than Sprint's Wimax in every documented test comparing them that I have seen).

Also, he said we would see HSPA+ being converted to LTE around 2015, but T-Mobile and AT&T have both said they will begin rolling out LTE later this year.

To be clear here- I have no doubt that Sprint's Wimax will eventually get better than it is right now. But right now, T-Mobile's HSPA+ has better so far. And T-Mobile aren't the ones putting an extra "cool tax" on their hot phones that everyone was waiting for (Nexus One and HD2).

Maybe you need to look harder. Lol.

Oh and the "cool tax" as you put it, well, we don't know for sure if it is mandatory, and, we don't know exactly what the charge is for if it is not mandatory. So all this complaining and moaning may be in vain.

Ok, fine, great, you win. Are you getting the evo or just going to troll/bitch about the Evo in the Evo section some more?

SaltyDog, what exactly are you trying to accomplish on an EVO section? You claim you want to explore getting an evo, but instead of delving into its features or discussing the carrier you come here slinging shit at the walls like A) We care what you think and B) Nobody would take an issue with you "raining on our parade". This particularly forum is comprised of people who are excited and impassioned about the Evo, so what do you really expect when you start preaching the glory of T-Mobile and taking shots at Sprint?

Now, are we happy about the $10 fee? No. Will it deter some people from buying it? Of course. But I haven't seen ANYBODY try to wage a carrier war over it. If you think T-Mobile is so much superior to Sprint then there is a section of the site devoted to T-Mobile where you and like minded individuals can gush about HSPA+++ and Project Runway or Project Emerald or whatever it is to your little heart's content. I really just don't understand your agenda. If you don't want BIASED Evo discussion from Sprint "fanbois" then you REALLY need to find another forum.
Lets get something straight here- I was as excited about this device as anyone when I registered for this site. when I found out about the fee, I started looking for other options. And it was the Sprint fanboys who then started trying to wage a carrier war and blasting me anytime I said anything other than "Sprint is the greatest."

I said T-Mobile was a viable option. I never said they were better. They may be better, they may not. But they are certainly in the ballgame. And all the idiots saying nothing more that "T-Mobile sucks" are baseless morons.

Now, having answered that, let me ask you: What are YOU doing here? If you don't want to read it (and I did not start this thread, by the way) then what are you doing in this thread?

Maybe you need to look harder. Lol.
If you know of a speed comparison showing Sprint's Wimax proving to be faster than T-Mobile's HSPA+, post it. And I don't mean a history lesson, or some theoretical best case scenario versus theoretical worse case scenario. I mean an actual test of both showing the Wimax to perform better.

I have posted a few now where the HSPA+ performed better. I also posted a quote from a T-Mobile exec saying they would make sure it was at least 3 times faster by the end of the year. So I am not sure how much harder you want me to look, lol.

Well, I enjoy talking about the Evo. Note that I'm on the Evo section talking about the Evo. I'm not on the Incredible section talking about the Evo. I'm not on the T-Mobile section talking about WiMax. See how that works?

If you're that disgruntled about Sprint's plan for the Evo (and you very obviously are), then I hope you enjoy t-mobile and their phone lineup.

I don't know if I am getting the Evo, and I have done no trolling. I did not start this thread. I posted that I was upset abotu the fee and considering passing on it, and I got blasted for even considering any other carrier, or any other device. I then made a case for the other side. That is hardly trolling.

Yes, this is an Evo section, but it certainly isn't meant to be an Evo circle jerk either. We discuss the good, and the bad, right?

Yeah I'm done arguing too. It seem's every time I prove this guy wrong, he brings up another argument to keep it going. My point is made, other people seem to get my point, you don't, (saltdog or w/e), and I'm moving on. I need not to prove any more to you, as I have proven my point countless times, and you have not backed yours with any kind of backable or quantitative data.

Good Day, Sir.

Now let's get back to the eVo.

I'm on the Evo section talking about the Evo too. Just because I have more to say than "I can't wait to get it no matter how much it costs" doesn't mean I'm not still talking about the Evo. Comparing the Evo (or it's plan and wireless tech) to the alternatives is still talking about the Evo.

Uh, what is your point and where did you prove it?

Again, I posted specific things. You gave a history lesson.

And I posted plenty of backable and quantitative data. I posted several real world tests comparing Sprint's Wimax and T-mobile's HSPA+. I also gave examples of 6 party conference calls while sending emails to the participants, SIM card swaps with contacts on the SIM card, and quotes form executives about what the future holds. LOL, what more do you want? Videos? I posted those too.

*whistles*

Other people understood my posts/point just fine. Like I said, I posted facts, REAL science, etc. Now I'm not about to start arguing about arguing. Your now being ignored in this specific thread about this specific argument. Just so you know.

I understood your posts just fine too. I just didn't see any of this science that you're claiming you posted, lol.

You can ignore the truth all you want, it doesn't make it any less true.

You sure know how to push the Troll meter pretty good. T-Mo lags in coverage, call quality and dropped calls. Only AT&T is worse and that's not saying much.

The best part is looking at the reported deadzones between TMobile and Sprint
Cell Phone Coverage Maps - AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile

Just in NY or LA alone - it would make me cringe to think about going back to T-Mo. I can see bitchin about the $10 charge but you can get off the T-Mo bandwagon as if that was a legit alternative.

Here's a T-Mobile HD2 speed test:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRlx3bsp0hoth

Here's the Sprint Evo event in New York- they put an HD2 right next to an Evo and did speed tests on both, the HD2 was faster (at Sprint's New York Evo party, wow)

Video: HTC EVO 4G vs. HTC HD2

Wait til T-Mobile releases their Project Emerald phone (rumored to be the Samsung Galaxy S) that is actually made for their HSPA+ network.

SaltyDawg,

If you're referring to around 4:40 of the 2nd video, it seems as though the HD2 beats the HTC EVO. They are both loading the engadget page, but while the HTC EVO is loading a mobile version, the HD2 is loading a desktop version. The EVO actually beats the HD2, but that isn't surprising.
