2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

I already have pinch-to-zoom on the home screen, Photos app, the Gallery app (search for .apk) and Turn-by-Turn navigation w/ Google Maps. I also have voice to text with the HTC_IME mod from XDA-Developers forum. It seems that, if anything, the only missing part of the equation is multi-touch in Google Maps. (Which some suggest that, after the official update was received, is not present)

I just want to be able to get warranty service with my phone, and perhaps eventually root it. That is why I want the update to be spread out more quickly by having someone log the URL. Right now I cannot root, although technically I might be able to argue a warranty replacement now if I needed one.

I agree with the Friend Stream thing, cause I have v3 leak and there is no Friend Stream. But, we did receive the Google Maps update, which should be the same version that the OTA uses, so no pinch-to-zoom for us, none for the OTA.
 
FYI, for those of you asking why we have not heard from anyone else about getting the update.

I have spoken to a total of 6 Eris users that all tell me they have the update. Some I talked to on twitter and some have PMed me here. None of them want to speak and get attacked by the members here. :(

As one person put it.

...I didn't think I'd have to break out the video camera and record my day so that a bunch of people on the net would believe me. Figured I'd just tell them and they would be happy for me.......all those people are acting like crazed piranha.

I can't say I blame anyone for not wanting to be attacked. I have asked them to look through things and compare to VZW list of features to see what they notice. None were running leaks, they all had 1.5.

Well, being that FriendStream is a new HTC Sense UI widget, it should come with the OTA. A couple posts back there was a quote from a rep that stated the Eris OTA should have FriendStream.
 
I could live w/o FriendStream. I closed out my Facebook account last week - next Wednesday it will auto-delete for good. I only have one Twitter account, and I primarily use that to get a hold of companies that use Twitter for customer service & support.

However, FriendStream in of itself is a nice application. It will have its uses / audience.

well makes sense, ota coming out for us may 11 through 16th, thats 5 days just like the old OTA
 
Honestly.... i dont even know what friendstream is lol guessing it syncs social networking sites or something to that effect?
 
I took another look at the Twitter feed mentioned much earlier (I'm not a Twitter user usually)... they keep saying over and over and over again that "people on the leaked version WILL receive the update OTA, which is going out randomly" (or words to that effect).

If they're to be believed, then v3 isn't OTA, and thank god for that.

Time to wait... and chill... and wait some more...

Me either... you're probably right though, more social BS to have loaded on the phone, like Footsteps, Twitter, Peep, Facebook etc isn't enough... when there's a 2.1 root out, think I'll do it and remove all the crap that just so isn't needed.

Sorry dude, but not necessarily. They could just set the OTA to upgrade your phone regardless of version, even if it's the same version. Just because "leaked" users will receive it, that does not mean there's a difference between v3 and OTA.

I have been lurking on these forums for about three months now and haven't joined until now for this exact reason. There are a lot of members here that are brutal and for seemingly no reason. Now, I notice there aren't a lot of ads here on the forum so I'm guessing that this isn't a revenue based forum but still, the tension gets so high that it makes me want a xanax.

As for the upgrade, if and when it comes to my phone, should I just whip out the video camera and record the whole process? No matter how many times I read the instructions for how to log the update, I still get this feeling that I would get the wrong information and get an angry mob at my doorstep.

Dude, if someone gets angry with you for posting the wrong info, that's their problem not yours. When I get the update I'll log and post (if no-one else already has) and TBH, if someone doesn't like what I do, then tough. I won't lose any sleep over it. There's plenty of people who'll appreciate the effort and the fact you tried.

If you want to video it and post, all power to you, but don't do it just so some lurkers don't get PO'd with you. Do it because you -want- to.

very true, a lot of people on here can be pretty harsh... this is why pot should be legal :rolleyes:

I think I should have just kept to myself. I took high-res pics, noted the time, answered any questions that people asked or PM-ed me and there are still doubters that the rollout is happening.

Seeing how there is apparently no way to prove it besides video recording the entire process, I say to hell with it. I'm done.
