2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

Clearly (and I thought almost everyone should have realized this by now), Verizon's document is misleading in some areas, plain wrong in others. Just a complete farce all the way around.
As is typical, the .pdf came from marketing and is a wish list, the firmware comes from engineering and is a reality check.

Engineering can't always do what marketing wishes for.

I am new to the software development arena, and the boss just tells me that it means we have an awesome marketing team, and crappy engineers.

Its funny. We are talking about 2 divisions of verizon wireless, yet they cannot communicate with each other.:)

I have never worked anywhere in the very high tech where it is different, from small companies to very large ones. At some point, engineering has to let go of their baby and it is provided to the customer. At this point, it usually falls short of the marketing dream but still does useful work, the definition above all that counts.

The departments still communicate, it's just that one of them is either ahead (or behind, depending on which department you are working for) of the other.

Has anyone else wondered why all the new OTA 2.1 updates, like the motorola droid and samsung moment, all say 2.1-update1 and the Droid Eris one still just says 2.1?

The wife's Incredible says "2.1-update1" as well. BUT, it's a lower build number than the Eris OTA and the 2.1V3 leak.

There is no relationship to what the Incredible (or any other phone for that matter) says vs the Eris. It is done by different design teams. Google has only released Android 2.1. All the other stuff is added by the design teams.

Makes "Sense" to me!

Some will choose to listen...most will continue to dream.

2.1 v3 is named such by forum members. It is the final OTA code that was leaked from Verizon by a very reliable source. v3=OTA. Perhaps an update is down the road to add in features but WYSIWYG right now. Many of us have been enjoying the OTA version for a while now. It really sucks to wait on something that you aren't gonna see this go-round.

I have been in contact with someone at Verizon most of the day thru e-mail. This is the latest e-mail she sent me regarding the update:

Verizon: I was told that it is spread out over a week and it started today. You should receive it within a week. When the Motorola Droid update was released it went out over a week.

Me: I still have not received the 1st notification!

Verizon: After you've received first notification of the system update you can manually initiate by going to "Home" > "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates". Press "Restart & install". Your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.

I'm fairly certain i know the answer to this question, but here goes anyway. If we disable the Sense UI on the eris, which i know how to do, and get the 2.1 OTA update, will we be able to use live wallpapers? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but i just wanted to know because im nosy. Also, are we getting any new wallpapers at all in the update? Thanks.

Interesting that she said it started today. Today is the 3rd day.
