2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

i would think since i heard someone say this update is around 77mb that it would be pushed to the sd cause we dont have a whole heck of a lot of internal memory but i could be wrong, i mean you should be able to update your phone without a sdcard in right?

I hope it goes to SD, it will be easier to pull. They can put it in a protected area on the device and we would not be able to pull it off.

For sure, I've been here since December and I remember Caddy posting the answers to pretty much every question you could ever have.

Caddy is awesome his 2.1v3 leak made me love my Eris again.

Oh and while one this topic lets not forget OTD and Frisco as valuable contributors here.

Im going to call up and tell them I want to cancel.. when they ask what they can do for me so I wont cancel.. ill tell them 2.1 sucka..

I bet that Lashunta nearly pukes every time she has to pull off those last lines of the email. It's required but I'm sure it's sickening to employees unless they are just a happy ass company person.

Too bad it doesn't upset her so much that she leaks the update on the internet (or at least via email to those she has to reply to)... :(

Hopefully your wife will at least notice, lol.

Hi flspnr,
Thanks for the chuckle! I did mention it to my wife last evening that something will happen to her phone soon and to simply follow the instructions. I'm hoping it comes down when she is at home with me but with my luck it'll occur when she's commuting and trying to call me.

Happening today. Just got off phone with rep. The one I called about with my reception issues. Said it was approved on the 7th and being rolled out on the 11th.

Whenever it actually does happen there was an earlier post that VZW would be doing the OTA at the rate of about 200,000 units per day until completed.

... It has been released today I was misinformed. Sorry for any miscommunication. *ZC

that's what they did when they updated the Moto Droid. It will take at least a week for everyone to get it.

Worth noting, one person on twitter asked if he would recieve the update even tho he is on a leaked version and the response was that he would within a couple of weeks.

@VZWSupport if i am running one of the earlier developer builds of 2.1 would I also be receiving an update notification? 6 minutes ago via TweetDeck

hmmm starting to think the vzwsupport person is an idiot. HE also stated no backup would be encessary.

right, and he will when everyone else will. it will take a few weeks to get it out to everyone.

You think one of us would have gotten it and provided proof by now. I feel like we're all going to be a lil angrier at VZW by day's end.

I have read all the posts from that on Facebook and most of the people on there are morons. They have no idea what an ota is. I have been sending people over here to get the 411.

We will eventually. We're a VERY small percentage of the total Eris user base. Thousands of people could have gotten it by now and we would never know. Most of them don't know what it is, or why it's better. They'll just press the update button and go on with their day never even noticing the changes 2.1 brings. Most Eris users probably don't even know what Android is, let alone what version their phone is running.

I am generally of the same mind as what you're saying there, and have posted as such.

However one thing is interesting today: I have been checking four different Eris forums, including the one at Verizon, and have yet to see one single post reporting reception of the OTA.
