2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

After reading all the problems with the OTA, I dont want it. I am on 2.1v3. I hope I DONT get it. My phone is running just fine. (knock on wood)
I seem to be in the boat that has a "good" 1.5. I havent had any of the problems some of you all are talking about.

Received notification of my update yesterday. However, my GF with the same phone and living in the same house has not yet received the notice that an update is available.

Took 45 minutes to download, verify download, and install the update.

BTW, I'm in Eastern edge of Los Angeles County.

Anyone with leaked 2.1v1 get it yet? I'm in SLC,UT and still waiting...I'm hoping since the build #'s are totally different we'll still be eligible?

Wife and I both have v2. I am almost to the point to go ahead and install v3 since I don't think even v1 and v2 will get the OTA.

I am getting increasingly pissed at the VZW twitter account adamantly saying the leaks WILL be updated though.

I also am highly interested in the fact that someone on the twitter account is advising people to root their phones when they complain that they do not have live wallpapers.

Any thought they doing it in another wave, just trying not to make note of it. Getting all the normal 1.5 to OTA updates out then pinging phones with the leaks later on in the 2 week process to get the OTA out?

Still no update for me and I am on leak v1, a few people that are in VA have gotten it and they were on 1.5. I am giving it until the end of the week then i am leaking to v3. Has anyone confirm that the OTA and V3 are one in the same yet?

My sister got hers this morning at 10:35 doing it now she has 1.5 and I have leak 3 so lets see what happens to me

2.1 FYI: If ringtones for contacts stop working!!!

If you are running a task killer/task manager and you end some of the new processes you may notice the ringtones you set for certain contacts aren't working. That is due to the "People" app that must now stay running in order for that to work.

If you have this problem, make sure the "People" app is excluded from the end process and reboot your phone. Your ringtones should work again.

There is a very good reason not to run task killers. It kills off tasks that think they should still be running. In the long run, it ends up using more phone resource than if you just let them finish their job and shut down gracefully.

There is a lot of confusion about how the Android OS works. Tasks do not use resources unless they are active. This is a lot like the GPS task. It doesn't use any resource at all unless prompted by another task. But it you kill it off, it will have to restart from the beginning, using a lot more of the phone resource than if it had just been left alone.

Android can support hundreds of running tasks that use no resources at all. Killing off these tasks makes them rerun stuff that they would never haved needed to do if they had just been left alone.

I never run a taks killer myself and have zero problems with battery life or phone performance.

Got my notice @ 7AM (I'm in San Francisco). Had to uninstall a few apps to make room, but the upgrade went perfectly. I am LOVING how snappy the OS is now. 1.5 had way too many hiccups and I was afraid that 2.1 would be even slower. The new app store is excellent, same for the new widgets, and the "pinch to preview" 7 home screen navigation is fantastic. So far, 2.1 gets a huge thumbs up.
Also, that effing YouTube bug is gone!

Got the update notification at 10pm last night while visiting the SF area. Everything seemed to go fine. The only thing I have run into so far is an issue with the Weather app being inoperable. A quick search online turned up a link to the VZW forums where there was a solution (clearing the cached data). I'm hoping I don't run into anything else.

My mother-in-law got the OTA update over the weekend, she was on 1.5 still. My wife and I have not got the OTA update, she is on leak V2, and I am on V3.

We're all on the same plan, so I thought that we would all get it at once.

+100%. People think they are too smart by half or believe they can transfer their Windows procedures over to Android. Lay off the task killers and be reasonable with your application use. "Reasonable" does not mean sparten either. If you need/like an app, use it. If you don't use an app, delete it. Configure apps to what you need, but no more - lagom! (figure that one out).

You and your wife will not be getting the OTA. No leakers are receiving the OTA. V3 is basically the same as the OTA. Read the dozens of pages of posts in this thread and you'll see why.

Do we know that for sure? Every other post says something different...I don't know who to believe lol. Why would they not update those running leaked ROMs? What does Verizon care?

read this post then...

leakers will not get >THIS< OTA

THIS
OTA that is being sent now, checks the os on the phone, if it is not 1.5 it will skip that phone.

MAYBE they will send out an OTA after this one to try and root out the leakers and get them upgraded, but not at this time.
