Help 2.1 Problems - Issues - Quirks

My phone has froze a few times on an incoming call and force closes "phone" just happened when my boss called... awesome, also cant access my "manage applications" it force closes EVERY time. I cant wait till friday for the evo I want to throw my hero into a lake lol

Getting repeat email notifications for email received DAYS prior to current (for example on 5/31 I received an email notification for a message received on 5/27). I use K-9 so it's not a problem just associated with Android / HTC mail.

I am having a similar issue. I will receive a new email and get the notification sound as normal, but then I will continue to receive notification sounds for the same email intermittently until I check my email.

I cannot seem to figure out a solution for this one. It does sort of reduce the usefulness of having notifications for email because now I sometimes just assume that the notification is for an old email instead of a new one and I am less apt to check it. :(

I am having problems with htc weather widget as well. It was stuck on the city I was in when I upgraded to 2.1, so I deleted the city and now no city will show up on the widget. I tried deleting the widget from the screen, add it again and select "Current location", but no city shows up, just "My location" under the clock. It worked like a dream under 1.5 so I'm very sad :(

Oh and the HTC Battery widget doesn't seem to work accurately and many people in the forum share my sentiment. Does anyone have any good battery widgets/app replacement? I miss obsessively checking for the exact percentage of battery remaining.

Hmm, I have the HTC Battery widget installed on my Sprint HTC Hero as well. It has always seemed accurate to me, even after the Android 2.1 update. Once in a while it might take a couple seconds to update, but it is usually pretty immediate. I like the HTC Battery widget because it only uses up one space on my screen and it gives me additional information if I press it.

That being said, there are several other battery widgets available on the Android Market. I am sure you can find several by typing "battery" in the search bar.

This probably falls under the already reported issues with Bluetooth and 2.1 but we have a Panasonic KX-TH1211B home bluetooth phone system. It worked great with 1.5 and windows mobile phones. We upgraded to 2.1 and it could no longer sync with phone. I hope they have an update for this fix soon.

Spoke with a Local Sprint Repair shop in town. They said the techs would re-flash my phone and said that should work. If it did not they will replace it with a refurb. I haven't let them do anything yet but will let people know if it fixes my issues.

"Battery Indicator" is by far the best battery widget around. Try it!

I finally broke down and updated yesterday. Took 3 hrs to get it to install properly. Had to reload HTC Sync on my PC then reboot like 15 times to get it to connect to my Hero. The install of 2.1 was rather quick though (like 7 mins). Now getting all the stuff back on my Hero...that's another story.

Anyways, i haven't noticed any great improvements or glaring issues yet versus the 1.5 OS. Here's my list of quirks:

1. The battery seems to drain faster than before even though i have less Apps installed
2. The phone dialer lag was atrocious at first, but lag has dimished somewhat after using it a few times
3. My alarm didn't activate this morning...not sure why yet
4. Can't restore files from my SD card that were originally saved via Ultra Notes, AK notes, etc (even though i can view them)
5. Had some force closures on different Apps...hopefully they go away
6. There's a delay in receiving notification chimes when email is received
7. My calendar updated with all existing appointments, except it doesn't show little mark/indicator on the calendar screen
8. Some lag in landscape keyboard, but not any worse than 1.5 and actually seems better
9. My phone still shows REV 0 ??????? Why?????

I'm sure there's more, but haven't played with it all yet.

I like some of the new facelifts to the widgets and the access to more Market Apps. I hope it gets better and fixes for the bugs aren't too far off.

Is anyone having issues with making phone calls??
This is pissing me the F&^K OFF!!!
It takes forever to make or answer a call! It randomly freezes all the time on a call, picking up a call. UGH!!!
Also, Texting, just going the the screen to hit the txt icon, freezes! It takes forever to load and sometimes just reboots my phone!

Is it me or is using the keyboard more frustrating now then it was before.... I never type anything in right at all. Yes I have calibrated the damn thing.... did I spell that right?

Do you peopl know if the HTC EVO is going to have the same shit problems, since supposedly the last time I heard, it has the same firmware update as this POS?

I hate sprint phones, why can't they have a desent phone with no problems?

On mine at least, the home button doesn't work to do this from anything but the home screen. However, pinching inward does work on all 7

There's also a multi widget that lets you adjust GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, Sync, and Brightness all in a 1x4 space. Widgets > Power Control.

That's just a shortcut to Google Maps Navigation. Some like it better then the Sprint - Tel/Nav one.

Oh yea and thanks! I had no idea I could pinch the screen instead to get the zooming out thing in any screen! Kudos!

Me 2.

Mine seems more accurate but slower.

I'll know when I get an EVO. Hopefully soon actually.

I've had my replacement phone for a week now & I'm still having exactly the same problems I was having with the old phone, except now I'm getting notified of my incoming calls. In addition to the problems we've all listed on here already, my signal SUCKS!! Most of the time I only get 1 or 2 bars, if I even get that. AND when I download stuff from the Market it takes forever. I usually have to stop the download & start over.
HTC finally emailed me back in response the problems I'd complained about on my first phone. Their answer (3 times now) is to do a factory reset. At this point I'm refusing to that because as I explained to them, I find it difficult to believe a factory reset is going to fix the SAME problems I was having with my first phone & everyone else is having with their phones. I don't think HTC likes me very much right now! But I'm not going to give them the easy out of "do a factory reset" when we all know that is not the problem here!

Don't you know it's the user? It's your fault that you aren't searching these forums day after day to try and find solutions to the multiple issues this phone has. Call in sick to work, tell the wife your sorry it's your anniversary, tell the kids you'll catch their state tournament or recital next year, all 'cause you have a phone that needs constant babysitting.
And the newest solution/recommendation - get the EVO. Christ, I have no faith in the HTC/Sprint partnership at this point.

LOL. I have news for you, it's not isolated to just Sprint, and it's not just HTC, and it's not just Android. Ain't technology grand? I'm thinking about going back to an old land line with the separate receiver and a crank that you turn to make a connection to the operator.

"Hello? Gladys? Connect me to PEnnsylvania 6-5000, please. How're are the kids? Good, good. My party is on the line? Good, good. Thanks Gladys. Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?"

Its funny, my friends are constantly telling me, its you not the phone! I hate them...-_-....

Im going to buy the EVO and test it out... Im in the same boat as you are, sprint/htc = CRAP.

Are verzion droid poeople having issues with their phones? They have like 2 new androids coming out.... Damn you sprint...

I have to be honest, I am not having any of the issues mentioned in this thread. I can't figure out why some of you are having such terrible problems with your phones, and some are not. I did the upgrade myself and had no issues. My phone has no lag whatsoever, and is like having a new phone. I just don't understand why these problems are so hit and miss. I feel for those of you that are experiencing these issues.

Since I upgraded to 2.1 either the phone works fine when booted, or it just doesn't work with constant forced off. I can finally reboot it and get it to work by taking the battery out and then the reboot works (otherwise rebooting without taking out the battery first just gets me back to a bunged up 2.1) . I'd say it screws up every 5th boot. So every 5th day.
Soon I'll back up the apps and do the RTN hard reset by calling Sprint tech and then try and reload. If that doesn't work...I just don't know. Not up for a phone renewal until Oct. (Premier Member) and I'm on the two year contract. The EVO seems nice, but I don't want to pay an extra $10 since I'm not a big phone user. We need to hear more from people who get a new/refurbed phone with 2.1 factory installed and if they also have all these problems.

My Hero runs at supersonic speed including the keyboard in landscape. Fastest keyboard of any phone I've had. Period. The only issue I have is the dialer lag. It is horrible. I have managed to help it some, but not like it should be. And the vibrate to let you know the call has connected is great in ny book.

I recently noticed that my Hero was using way too much data. In the past 2 days it has used more than 200MB (info from Sprint's website) when I checked in Spare Parts, Battery History, Network Usage it show that the top Network/Battery user is an app or process called "0". Yes, all it shows is the number 0 and when I click on it I get a force close. I have no clue what this is and I'm wondering if anyone in the forum has seen this and was able to figure out what it is. I did a factory rest to my Hero a couple of hrs ago and decided to install apps one by one, use them and check Spare Parts, hopping that I would find the culprit, well... after installing Spare Parts, Hancent SMS, ASTRo File Manager, Google Sky Map, Houston Traffic, Real Calc Scientific Calculator, The Schwartz , Video Player and Yelp the app/process "0" showed up again. I uninstalled Yelp since it was the last app I installed, rebooted the phone twice but the "0" app/process is still using battery and data.

Any help would be appreciated.
