Help 2.1 Problems - Issues - Quirks

Even though I tend to always take pictures in landscape mode, it is still idiotic that they don't give us the preference to have it either way. It hinders user experience, and lets hope they push out a fix in the near future.

I agree. I would prefer to have the option to take a picture either or. This county is about freedom and choices, so should our phones be!

stick any mp3 or even wav file in that directory and see

Okay, putting an MP3 in that folder worked. Sooo it appears as though I'll just have to start all over for all my ringtones..... and am I to understand that we can no longer set individual contacts to have their own ringtones play?? Cuz I'm looking in the edit screen on somebody, and its not giving me the option to set their ringtone........ :\

I don't see it in the edit screen, but in the first screen when you open the contact. First item under "information"

Ahhh, there it is! Why, oh why, did they make such seemingly pointless changes?? Not just this....I mean all of it.....really....

Well it looks like I'll actually have to USE ringdroid now to edit my MP3s as ringtones.....

issues since update,
I have major lag when i receive a call or im trying to make a call. The phone will just freeze and lag for several seconds especially when im receiving the call. Pressing the END button doesnt work all the time to end a call and many times the phone ends up calling someone else for whatever reason im like WTF. Seems like when placing or receiving calls just hogs all the available memory and chip power. Also I get lag when the phone screen is locked and I receive a call and me dragging the screen down or hitting the home button doesnt do nothing so I end up missing the call.

I have the same problem. Sometimes I'll press on a person to call them and nothing happens. So I do it again, thinking maybe it didn't register. Nothing. Then a minute or two later it makes two simultaneous outgoing calls to the same person. Another time I tried to call my girlfriend and nothing. I forgot about it and then a few minutes later the phone vibrated to let me know it was making the call. This morning I had a semi-emergency call I had to make and couldn't make the call at all until I finally gave up, yanked the battery and rebooted. Time lost: about 5 minutes. I'd hate to think this would happen if I needed to make a 911 call...

The other minor issues i can live with but just the whole answering and making calls crap is ridiculous
I disagree. I paid *way* too much money for this phone and entered into a 2-year contract with Sprint for it. I'm justifiably pissed because 1) I was concerned that the phone was on v1.5 when I bought it in Feb but the rep assured me the 2.1 upgrade would be at the end of March, so I bought the phone (and Sprint released the upgrade in May); and 2) the bugs and quirks were well-documented before I bought the phone yet this information was not shared with me (and would have impacted my decision). I'm not a lawyer, but providing false and misleading information and withholding information that would impact a business transaction sounds like fraud to me.

With all of these Hero problems, I'm surprised a lawyer somewhere hasn't started a class-action lawsuit. I'm game. I contacted Sprint about these problems several times and eventually asked for a new phone (and I'd even pay more to get one) but was told that's not going to happen and I can trade my phone in for the same buggy model. So basically, Sprint misled me about the phone, withheld information about the problems with this phone, and got me into a 2-year contract as a result. I really don't want to file a formal complaint with my State Attorney general, but Sprint isn't leaving me much of a choice here.

The things you have described are grounds for a class-action lawsuit and I am game for pursuing this as well. If there are any lawyers with extra time on their hands who want to take the lead on this then let me know and I can help out. The frustrations and misrepresentations of information when facts were known by senior-level to low-level personnel has been ridiculous. This phone was supposed to be a stable version of Linux yet it has just been a plethora of problems. Not being able to send and receive calls without error has put me over the top.

At first I noticed improvement after the latest update but with time the calling problems have returned. I plan to go to my Sprint store and make the biggest scene I can asking for a refund and contract cancellation. I can only wish!!!!

Currently on non rooted Sprint Hero.

I received an OTA update to 2.1 update 1 this afternoon.

Build number 2.27.651.6

Before this update I was experiencing most of the issues that have been listed here. Since I updated this afternoon, my phone feels significantly faster, esp. within making and receiving calls. This was my main and most frustrating issue with updating to 2.1. The other issues I was putting up with and working with hoping that an update would eventually come.

The one issues that I've noticed (within the 10 hrs that I've had the update) is the notification of being low on disk space. Since the update, I haven't downloaded any updates or installed any new apps. I have deleted emails and attachments as well as tried to clean up unnecessary texts and it hasn't gone away yet. Would the update install package be hiding itself somewhere that I needed to delete it to help clean up some space on the phone?

Any other users receive this update yet and has any else noticed anything different?

i'm sure this has been mentioned in some way shape or form, but what is the deal w/ facebook and 2.1. for starters facebook native account sync (a new feature) does not work (accounts & sync --> manage accounts --> add account --> facebook <-- doesnt work. You can click facebook all day when at the syncs sub menu and it won't do a thing. Facebook for HTC Sense will, but now it seems crippled compared to 1.5, or am i Missing something.

For instance in 1.5, if you wanted to 'people' to sync a FB picture and Bday, this option was available from the individual contact menu , but not anymore. Frankly, I don't know how to manually add a facebook to contact connection, it appears to have been stripped which seems idiotic. Again in 1.5, it would auto scan, and then you could correct those you got wrong. I'm afraid this one won't correct squat... sure there's a auto sync once you've added Facebook for HTC Sense but after that, how do you change the ones it gets wrong, or fix the ones it seemingly doesn't scan as there seems literally no way to manually adjust as 1.5 allowed, and

For me, the only contacts that still show up as facebook pic are a result of the residual <sn> ID of the notes field from outlook synced back to phone from htc sync from transition from 1.5 to 2.1. I'm clueless as to how to add, manually or auto, and how to adjust.:confused::confused: HEEEELP

Yea i got the update and it didnt do crap for my problems.
I dont see no difference before and after the update. Shits so annoying accidentally making conferences calls and accidentally hanging a call up cuz of the freaking lag. When a call finally gets through after 5secs im hitting the damn end button when im was trying to hit the damn answer button which doesnt want to work. So ******ed not being able to answer bout half my incoming calls.

So I've been running 2.1 for about a week now. I found this thread before finding out 2.1 was officially out, and had at first decided to wait before updating. Then I finally decided that I could tolerate the few issues listed here that might affect me. Well... it seems there are more texting issues than listed, and for me they are nearly deal-breakers (especially considering "texting" issues also affect things like using the internet, another *huge* thing I do on my phone).

I realize lots of people are saying the landscape (QWERTY) keyboard is laggier, but I figured that was fine because I always use the portrait (compact) keyboard. But... of course, the portrait keyboard is just as screwed. The lag on a clean install of 2.1 is worse than I usually experienced on 1.5, even in most situations where I had other things running in the background. I haven't tried the landscape keyboard yet, but I don't intend to anyway, because I don't like it and it slows me down.

My other unmentioned issue, tied in with the above issue most likely... The auto-correct doesn't always work while typing. As in... I'll start to type a word and then suddenly a brick of lag hits my phone and suddenly the phone stops auto-correcting for that word I was typing (and sometimes the next word). And the way I type, I depend on the phone's auto-correct feature quite a bit. Not because I can't spell, but because I type rather fast on that portrait keyboard and I, over time, grew to trust the phone (on 1.5) to handle occasional mistypes.

Now though, because of these two issues, I actually have to slow down my typing, and pay much closer attention to what exactly I'm typing. Doing a calibration of the touch input helps, but only so much. Lag with a standard feature on a fresh install of the OS, is ridiculous. And it's driving me nuts. I would kill right now to go back to 1.5. 2.1 has little for me.

Oh, and the fact that 2.1 has ruined Wallpaper Set and Save's ability to put a 320x480 picture as a static background for all pages of a scene... drives me nuts. Where the hell is an option to make a choice on this? I know *this* complaint isn't so functionally important, but it still angers me that I can't use any of my pictures as backgrounds without horrible cropping (many of my pictures don't look good at all with how they have to be cropped/displayed on the phone).

Definitely going to keep an eye out for a way to revert back to 1.5. The only feature I actually *appreciate* in 2.1 that 1.5 didn't have... is the ability to customize the user dictionary without trouble. Otherwise, I haven't found anything else in 2.1 that would make me want to keep it over 1.5. Then again, I do an extremely heavy amount of texting and internet browsing, so the issues I came across are probably a little more important to me than many other people.

I too see "0". I have noticed increase network traffic but does not seem to affect battery usage because I have been getting great battery life since the upgrade. I have 50% right now. I usually get to 50% at 5pm. Now its past 12am. Wow on battery life but am wondering what is up with the network usage.

Did you or anyone else figure out what the "0" mean through network usage while using spareparts? I did a hard reset and it went away but came back! I installed apps one by one to see who the culprit is and got nothing. It might be a bug in the actual phone update.

Did that. Still can't locate the ringtones on the phone.

Just in case it matters, the file types are .DM and I downloaded them to my phone from the website myxer.com.

just so you know .DM is a form of DRM protection. Once you download it on your phone, it can only stay in one directory (download folder) and that you can not move it in a different folder (ringtones folder). Your best bet is to access it through "downloads" or convert it to .mp3 or .wma

I JUST HATE 2.1, my phone is sooooooooo slow now!!! Makes me want to trash my hero. Or kick sprint and HTC in the A** for waiting so long to launch a shity upgrade!!!

I just upgraded to OS and setup Exchange email. It sends/receives fine but now I need to enter a password every-time i need to do anything. I was running the same setup fine on previous version.

Can I delay the password prompt or remove it ?

If I delete the Exchange account it works fine.

LockPicker, free from market, works great!
