2.29.405.2

Right, just went to the iPlayer website, went to BBC Three>Eastenders and it says I have to switch to a Wi-Fi connection to view

If you're telling me you can watch on o2 then I'll be amazed

yep, sat at work, just went to google, typed iplayer, folowed the link to the bbc iplayer page using dolphinHD, clicked a random link, 'panorama adicted to games' it briefly flashed a white warning too quick to read, then the green arrow place holder for flash content replaced the text, and when i click that I get a play arrow. On clicking that It buffered for maybe 5 seconds and started playing no problem at all.

Im on an 'H' connection with 2 bars reception. UK O2 using the version of flash that came in the OTA update to 2.10.405.2 (I havent done the latest OTA update yet and have never updated my flash player.)

Yes, it works AFTER a hard reset, losing all data and apps in the process. If you're happy wiping the phone then go for it but you might as well flash the RUU in that case and have a clean slate

Collectively, Evo owners went through this and we shook out some backup/wipe/restore procedures -

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/141369-how-fix-froyo.html

There's some Evo- and carrier-specific stuff in that post, but it'll probably be useful to Desire owners if updated. If anyone wants to cop it, and mod it up for the Desire, I'll be happy to sticky it into the right place for you.

Is that going by the mobile site I take it? Just says on mine it's not available for my device. I'm on the latest Flash update on the Market

Hi Guys,
I did update OTA yesterdayday on a de-branded un-rooted Desire. The goldcard was in the phone and all is fine except for the Wifi error.

i have a de-branded, unrooted Desire and I did the OTA update without any problems. WiFi works fine.

just to check, did you run it USB Debugging mode?

It says the same on mine "not available for my device" I'm on T-Mobile,odd that it's working for some as it doesn't mention different carriers just the device.

Actually just looking, this is what it says.

Why can't I stream iPlayer programmes over my 3UK or Vodafone 3G connection?
Please ensure that both your internet and your streaming APN settings are set to use your 3G connection. For more information on how to do this please consult your handset manual. This should enable you to view BBC iPlayer over your 3G connection.
Please note that streaming over 3G is not currently available on iPhone/iPod Touch, Symbian^3*or Android handsets on any mobile network.
If this doesn't answer your question, please check through the other FAQs or go to the BBC iPlayer help desktop site (BBC iPlayer - Help - Frequent questions) on a PC for more complete advice and support. You can also contact us using this feedback form, although we can't guarantee individual replies.

I am apparently using the right Vodafone APN going by their website, might need to confirm this, though

I knew it said it on the site!! How are other watching it then?

On the actual web site I can view video as I'm watching the Snooker live at the mo - just not iPlayer

Like you said previously though EddyOS, I agree it's hardly a great experience watching tv on the device anyway!
When I tested it on mine (and it worked ok without wifi), it didn't half sap my data so wouldn't even consider using it on my 500M Orange allowance...
Agree though, weird how some can and some can't.

Ok, just tried again over 3g, since with the eastenders episode i clicked on earlier, i literally watched 3 secs of opening credits then stopped, as i presumed that meant it was working.
I've now tried again and tired watching the panorama episode about computer games. Got about 30 secs in and it crashed the browser completely closing it. I then open browser again and it defaults to my home page. I then return to the episode of panorama and when it tries to resume from the previous point, nothing happens. I then open a new tab and close the iplayer one and now the browser cannot access any site, even though i still have data connection.
After reboot browser works fine.

So in conclusion i don't think iplayer can be watched over 3g. Which is a bit annoying as i have a 3GB a month data usage which i rarely get close to exceeding, if that's beebs reason for not allowing over 3g.

I think it has something to do with the BBC either wanting to direct people ONLY to the website and thus to maybe OTHER things on the site...or because they dont want the quality of their programs compressed and looking shoddy through a mobile connection as they do rate themselves at the top of the picking order lol

or it could just be an agreement they have with the carriers due to heavy traffic.

The link I posted a couple of posts up shows they allow watching via 3g to some phones.

Hi, thanks for the reply, yes I always have USB debugging mode on as I've been playing with 'App Inventor'.

I tried BBC Iplayer, just selected the featured program (can't remember what it was) and it changed to a white box with the circle spinning for a couple of secs then froze. I couldn't do anything else with the browser, so had to force close it.

What i have noticed since the update is that BBC iplayer wouldn't play in full screen mode. I had plug ins enabled on demand as flash content crashed the stock browser. I have now changed this to always on and iplayer now plays in full screen and flash content no longer crashes the browser :) Guess this problem has been fixed.

Okay I'm confused now ... can someone explain to my why my HTC Desire received an update a week or so ago that patched it to 2.33.161.2 and NOW everyone else is receiving a new patch which somehow patches to 2.29.405.2? A patch I'm not getting by the way and searching for updates gives me the message none are available.

The other one is for the Vodafone UK handsets, hence the x.xx.161.x

This update is for the unbranded Desires, x.xx.405.x

They're in effect the same update with different version numbers

Weird - so Vodaphone had the patch before the rest? o_O

Did a RUU to install it. Only thing that's not working is Facebook updating on the Market. Used Titanium to backup etc and restored all the apps. I didn't backup Facebook because it's easy enough to just update manually, but it doesn't. In the notifications bar it says it's downloading, but in the download tab on the market, it's just the grey bar doing nothing. After it's finished downloading in the notification bar, it sometimes says it's installing in the download tab of the market, but nothing installs even after 20 minutes of waiting.

The Facebook app is listed as installed, and I can use it (It's version 1.3), but in the sync options, there's no option to sync Facebook.

I really do think im gonna wait till everything is ironed out...as there seems to be alot of issues, granted I know some people have no issues, but this thread and the few others shows theres a far higher percentage of people with problems than none...

Im happy with the older update, nothing is wrong I can view all the flash I want and Facebook works fine...I think I'll wait till 2.3 IF we get it for the Desire. Heres hoping *fingers crossed* :P

mine crashed and now stuck on white htc screen,,,,, help what do i do?

I upgraded yesterday, and it has crashed 3 times. It gets stuck and I have to take out the battery to get it started again. I talked to HTC here in Norway, and they said that if I took a factory recet it might have a tiny posibility to go back to the point before upgrade... sounded a little strange to me. She told me to send it inn to restore it, if that didn't work. She said that this upgrade was not ment for the decire.... Any ideas?

somehow I think the HTC person got their info wrong....how can an update FOR the desire maybe NOT be for the desire lol...silly technical support :D;)

I'm from South east Asia (Malaysia) and there is no 2.29.405.2 for us here; instead we have 2.13.707.2 replacing 2.13.707.1. Have it installed yesterday, so far no issue and no visible improvement either.
