Root 2.2less

I was just saying...

I meant nothing disrespectful in my above post.

Maybe you could show me a little respect though? Your post came off sounding pretty rude.

I certainly didn't mean to come off as rude, I was just wondering why it would matter if shortfuse discovered the exploit his program uses or not.
As a developer I'm sure you wouldn't mind showing him the same respect that you want others to show you as he has developed a easy salutation to root many different phones, and took the time to come on here and answer a question about how it works.

First of all: Respeck knuckles to all the devs who worked on Velocity AND the guide.

I actually didn't use the guide because I ran in to problems. I was at work and ran out of time to mess with my phone any more and I saw the SOC method. I can say so far it's working fine. It doesn't seem like it'll break in the future, but I am not an expert. To get Velocity (which is BLAZING fast and surprised my girlfriend who has a Droid X) I flashed amon_ra with ROM manager and then deleted ROM manager because it's pointless. I wish I could check if the property service was still neutered after I rebooted to say one way or the other, but I have no idea.

The question here isnt whether soc works, but if you're willing to take the chance of permanently bricking your phone because you don't have fastboot. I used tridents guide on 2 phones, one took me 2 hrs the other took me 7 (because of dumb mistakes), it really isn't too hard.

If you have fastboot before the OTA you will still have it after. The only people without are people with phones that came out after V6.
Those are the people that "NEED" to do the "Trident" method. Also If you know your way around Recovery then you should never have a problem even if you dont have fastboot. In my oppinion putting the panic in people about not having fastboot is really not a very wise thing to do. Most users are very basic users and will never do anything with root except Titanium backup and Barnacle. Bricking will not be an issue. Yes I know there are those little teenagers out there with the golden finger who know how to push the RED button on any device. I guess in those cases you really cant protect Stupid from Stupid. Stupid will always find ways to be Stupid. Life is tough. Its even Tougher when your Stupid.
So I truly understand your efforts however I believe you are talking to a small percentage of people who really dont care anyway.
Also I just want you know I mean no Disrespect to you. When reading the written word inflections and intentions can be lost. Please know that my intentions are not that of ill will. ;)

after everything else has failed I'm going to use the LG Updater to get 2.2 hope it works *crosses fingers*

Good luck!!
Sorry couldnt get the Nandroid fast enough. I and Jrock have had some personal issues to attend to. Not related issues between us mind you.
Completely seperate personal issues. We will eventually get it though. :D

Wait a minute
Bnitty I almost forgot.

I have somthing for you to try.
I had an unfortunate issue happen to me lately. I wont go into details but suffice to say I kept getting the error you have been getting.
I fixed it by:
1. Deleting the Nandroid folder.
2. Went into Aloha-Recovery
3. Made new Nandroid.
4. Wiped everything and put new Nandroid back on
5. Put my old Nandroid backup back on and tried it.
6. It again worked instead of giving me the error.

One thing I left out is that I Re- Partitioned the card due to the unfortunate error. I also put all my back SD-card back on.
However I dont think you have to do that in order for this to work.

lemme know if it works bro.

**Edit** sent you a pm.

just not meant for me to get the 2.2 update bkuz everything short of Tridents 30+ plus step process has failed & I refuse to do that. I'll just wait for the thunderbolt & continue use 2.1 with Velocity 4

I am in the same situation as you except my contract isn't up for another year, so I have to wait or spend full retail on a smartphone, and I refuse to spend 600 dollars on a phone while having to pay 105 dollars a month just to use it. I have to stick with V4 on 2.1-1 because my usb is buggy and frequently disconnects when connected to my computer. I won't risk doing anything that requires usb debugging/connecting my phone to my computer.

Cjohn:

If your usb isn't working properly take your Ally back to Verizon and get a new one...you should still be under warranty. The Ally is know for having loose usb issues.
