2.3.3 released

I don't know why they couldn't leave the bright screen and fix the software, or ad some user control to adjust the color temp. Some like the dull color and some hate it. I hate it. I liked the sharp bright screen it used to have. That's one of the main reasons I bought the phone with super AMOLD. Now it looks like a Droid.
Maybe Google will fix what they broke. Maybe ad a temp adjustment.

If you hate it so much root your phone and install a kernel with Voodoo color fix. I highly doubt google will incorporate a color temp adjustment.

I was thinking about doing that but he said it doesnt save the settings yet. It also doesnt need to be rooted. I hope he gets it finished, looks like it might be the answer.

So I saw this update on the phone this morning. For some strange reason I ignored all my instincts and installed it without reading up on it - I thought, it comes from google for my phone, this was supposed to be a strong point of the phone, getting updates first etc from google, bound to be safe.

I can't begin to say how annoyed I am that my stunning screen has now turned into some murky, same-as-every-other-lesser-phone piece of junk. I noticed it straight away and have compared it to my wife's which hasnt had the update and the difference is night and day.

At least if I noticed some really good new features, but can't see any difference. GPS tonight actually shows my position about 200m out.

I gather I can't go back? Why can I not just install the previous version the same way I did this one? Sorry it's probably a really daft question but I am a complete noob and a pretty miffed one at that. I loved showing this off to my iphone friends but now...

I have been fortunate in not experiencing the random reboot problem....and also seem to be getting 36-48 hours from my battery....its safe to say i will be leaving the update well alone!

Based upon the replies I am glad my update hasn't come yet. Although I need to catch back up as I am running the first iteration of Gingerbread due to geeksquad replacing mine with a brand new one. oh the wait is so painful.

Well unlike many other people I just updated to cm7 #11 2.3.3 and I am absolutely loving how the screen has changed. It's much nicer on my eyes, and I have yet to experience any problems. It's great.

Update still OK for me. GPS is still weak though. CPW said that I could wait 2 weeks for a repair/replacement so I'm not sure I want to send it back on account that I don't know if it is my device or purely the Nexus S has crappy GPS.

My GPS is pretty crap. usually puts me a few streets away

I've noticed today after my initial shock with the upgrade yesterday that now when I'm at home both my wifi and 3G indicators are on at the same time - this never happened before the update. When I was at home before the update, as soon as the phone picked up the home wifi, the 3g indicator would disappear automatically.
I was hoping the wifi would just automatically take priority but I noticed the 3g arrows blinking so it must have been using the mobile network too - have had to diasble it manually.
Has anyone else noticed this after the update? Is there something I'm missing (I am an amateur, admittedly)
Thanks if anyones got any advice...

had my first 'random reboot' last night :(

running 2.3.2 and it seemed to happen just as i pressed one of the 'switchprowidget' functions (row of 5, wifi on/off) that i had placed on the first off centre homescreen to the left.

how many random reboots should i sit through before doing a factory reset?

Factory reset won't help. Either put up with the reboots or move to 2.3.3. Mine has rebooted only once since 2.3.3.

I just updatet manually, due to a lot of random reboots recently.. screen is little yellowish, but I'm fine with that! Hope the battery will now easily make a whole day (16-18 hrs) of heavy usage!

It doesn't look yellow to me. The whites look white. Colours look more natural instead of over saturated. Sometimes people just don't like different...

it doesnt look bad now that i am used to it.. at first it was a bit of a shock but i quickly got used to it

Can those of you who updated to 2.3.3 post screenshots to see the colors?

I'm not sure screenshots would show any difference in color. The change would have been made at a driver level, so it would only affect the way colors are shown on the screen, not which colors are displayed.

For instance, a green pixel might be represented as 00FF00. The display driver takes that green pixel and turns it into several voltages to power a group of OLEDs. The change in 2.3.3 basically tweaked the way the display driver translated that 00FF00 value into voltage values. In a screenshot, the pixel will be saved as 00FF00, well before it's ever translated into any voltage values.

You can see photograph comparisons here though: Nexus S 2.3.3 update adjusts screen's color temperature, we go eyes-on -- Engadget

A lot of people seem to think the new colors are bad, but if you take a look at this pic: Nexus S 2.3.3 update adjusts screen's color temperature, we go eyes-on - Engadget Galleries
You'll notice that the 2.3.2 colors make the people look pale and flushed, while the 2.3.3 colors actually get the skin tone correct.

Well, I noticed the colour change immediately and thought that perhaps the screen was smudged it was that washed out in comparison. I am, unfortunately, reminded of the brilliant screen I used to have as my wife's identical phone has not received the OTA (and we certainly won't be installing it if it comes). Her phone, side by side with mine, simply blows it out of the water. The greens of the battery, reception for example just look, how shall I put it? sickly. Definitely yellower than the other. The "into the nexus" live wallpaper is not as dynamic and vivid as it was before as the contrast has been affected. At a basic level, really not nice. I can see what they mean with certain colours now more visible when the background is dark, but it still doesn't compensate for the overall effect. Couple this to the rest of the bugs which have now plagued my phone with the upgrade (wifi, GPS, compass etc etc) and I would continue to recommend that, unless you had loads of dropped calls or reboots under 2.3.2, it just isn't worth it.

Mind taking some photos of the two together with similar or identical images on screen?
