Root 2.3.4 is available now !!

Amazingly small.
However, he left out couple of needed things, including FM radio which I want to have.

I trim redux to 45MB, so I guess same things stripped out.

Unpacks to between 70-75MB
Is there a way to estimate how much space will the installed ROM take?
For example, GV v2.1 is 91MB, but takes 142MB space. This is 56% increase, which is similar to the increase in Redux. I guess a rough estimate of like this formula should work:

Installed ROM Size = 1.6 * ZIP ROM

Maybe, maybe not. Content may compress at different multipliers.

Eg on a pc a zipped excel workbook compresses much more than a powerpoint with images.

Probably would depend on what content is in the zip

Yeah, but it still gives me an indication as what to expect if I'm on a tight system partition. Before looking at this, I had no idea what to expect. :)

It's fine, except that USB data transfer is apparently broken on EViollet's kernels (android 2.3.4 was one update too far for the older kernel base?). EViollet is aware.

I was overdue for backing up my card, so am running Vork this morning...

Like someone said in the eviollet thread, mounting apps work. It's the mount screen that doesn't work. Once mounted alternatively, transfers fine

Thanks. Vork is, as always, very smooth and stable, but power drain is higher than ManU 1.4. So having done my backups I've flashed back.

Nothing beats manu for battery for me.

actually i have to say using the latest havs from richard trip, 2.3.3 drivers and RIL seems to give me the same battery life

i have to use this as usb connectivity is broken with manu on 2.3.4 GB

SUroot! what do you strip out of redux? i like the thought of using oxygen so i would have loads of storage on the phone, do you use the themed one or not?
Thanks.

EViollet's posted a test kernel this morning (SVS-AXI-128-BFS version) where the usb connection is fixed.

fkin sick

gonna flash that in a bit as im just converting to redux to see what all the fuss is about

brb flashing like mad

Dont go into it expecting anything exciting. It does seem better on battery for me.

Other than that, I cut the same apps out as I do on GV and the rom fits in 75MB /system which is also good for me, with 3MB cache leaves me 360MB /data

3mb cache? do you download nothing from the market?

anyway im fkin redux off already. it doesnt play nice with go launcher, render effect is messed up with the alpha channels and it randomly doesnt display apps in the app draw even though they are not hidden.
never had these issues on GV. i was exited to make my system partition smaller but meh

/system/etc/init.d/06mountdl

It checks /cache size and if /cache is too small for a market download, it expands into /data.

I tested it with Cordy. Downloaded 27MB with my 3MB cache.

The only reason its 3MB is it will not work with smaller values.

this built into redux? i cba manually checking myself atm

Yes it is. Also CM7 I think.

You can use it in any rom too. But i prefer in redux as its smaller. I have more space so now everything is on NAND

mms doesnt seem to work either. someone typically sent me an mms and i cant retrieve it.
i rarely get them and on the day i try it i get one sent :/

EDIT: needed rebooting after modifying the settings.
restoring gv now to check to see if i was going mad with go launcher (could have been the same on that but i just didnt notice

EDIT2: back on GV and staying put for now, alphalayer rendering is working correctly on golauncher
it seems it looses colour depth also in redux, i have no idea why as the default launcher works fine on redux just go launcher.
its a weird one but a deal breaker for me
