Hey I just got a 2.5mm to 3.5mm headphones adapter from radio shack since our phones come with a stupid 2.5mm instead of the standard 3.5mm jack... And im only getting sound from the right channel. Anyone know of any adapters that you can confirm both channels actually work with our phones? Thanks

I recently bought one myself but have not tested it yet. One second

edit:

Both channels come in fine with mine, I would take it back, and get another.

Yea, sry, read the edit, made the new reply, and by the time I sent it, you put the ebay part. you by chance still have the seller/item description (that is if it wasnt a one time sale from a private seller)? With my luck, id get one that doesnt work

NEW 2.5 2.5mm to 3.5mm headphone adapter 3.5 mm jack - eBay (item 190491533211 end time Jan-17-11 10:14:06 PST)

The name of the seller I bought from was hi-pchttp://myworld.ebay.com/hi-pc/

i tried the ebay route... unfortunately, i don't have a bank account to "get verified" on paypal, so that was a no go. however, thanks to the image of the adapter that worked for you, i was able to figure out what i needed to get. the adapter i got had 3 of the little blue "separation strips" or whatever you call em. the one in the pic for your working adapter had 2. my guess is, the one i got was made to be an input/output adapter, but for a phone that the adapter was made for... not as generic as the 2 radio shack employees told me it was. i'll be returning it to radio shack tom. but i found a suitable, not much more expensive substitute (1/2 the price of radio shack's tho, w/ shipping). it comes with 2 adapters, it's male end is identical to the link you gave me, and for under $5 shipped... i'm not gonna complain (as long as it works lol) Buy.com - Black 2.5Mm To 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Adapter (2-Pack) for Palm Treo

There ya go :)

let us know how it works out :)

I'm also still having a problem finding an alternative headset to the oem one. I want smaller in the ear type buds.
I guess it's adapter issues.
I cannot get stereo either......just one speaker. Mic works fine.

The oem set works fine as well.
I bought my wife a skullcandy headset for her Blackberry, and purchased a Radio shack 3.5 female to 2.5 male....no go.
So I tried the same adapter with a new Motorola headset, no go.
I then purchased a motorola 3.5/2.5 adapter on ebay. It arrived today, and it doesn't work with either pr. of headsets either.
To the naked eye, both adapters 2.5 plug looks identical to the one on the oem headset.
And yes both adapters had three sections as opposed to two (like headphones).

I ended up returning the Radio Shack adapter, but not before trying the motorola headset on another adapter in the store.
I guess I have to live with the oem set for now but what happens when it breaks?

Anyone have any insights, input or suggestionhs on this? I really want a good pair of in the ear buds....not bluetooth either.
A specific adapter that worked for you??
Thanks

I was at Radio Shack tonight and bought a stereo headphone adapter 3.5mm female to 2.5mm male.

It works. It is playing in full stereo.

The package has the following code on the bottom of the frong: 274-373
On the back of the package it has the same code but slightly longer: 274-0373

Go to RadioShack.com and do a search "274-373" and it pops up. Here is the link: CLICK HERE

Please note the website is confusing as it uses the terms 1/8" and 3/32" but 1/8" is 3.5mm and 3/32" is 2.5mm

If you do a search for "274-0373" the exact same product comes up (even the link / URL is the same).

Like I said it works and is in true stereo. I've tested with several songs being played back on PowerAmp

I use PowerAmp because it can play back a variety of lossless audio formats such as FLAC (which is what the bulk of my music collection is in). The 'stock' music player can't do that heh

P.S.
I just realized that the item I got looks very slightly different than the one on the Radio Shack website yet the description and product number do match. The one that I got is a bit longer and a bit wider and is mostly smooth (without ridges) although there are some 'rings' around it (near the base and the end where the jack sticks out).

One last thing ... I tested it with regular 'normal' stereo headphones with a 3.5mm jack. In other words they didn't have a mic built in or any in-line volume control etc.

*** EDIT ***
Yes yet another edit to this post LOL

I was looking at the RADIO SHACK website again and I found an item there that looks EXACTLY like the item I bought but the model number is different. The model number on the website is: 274-0397 / 274-397
Do a search on either number will bring it up. Again this is a different model number than what was on the package of the unit I bought YET it looks exactly like what I bought. Go figure.

You know ... I'm starting to think that the website swapped the pictures and is therefore in error. So I'm pretty sure you will get the right item if you follow my original initial link.

I've tried a different route. I was getting hung up on the adapter option. I googled 2.5 headset, and got a few options. Not a lot of ear bud types available. I ended up ordering a pair for under 12 bucks total from an outfit called cellphone accents.com
I'll post with my results.

Kinda forgot bout this thread... Oops. But the adapters I posted on here worked, kinda. The diameter of the male portion is a hair too small, and because of that, any movement will cause it to loose contact briefly. The phone interprets this as its umplugged, so it stops playback. Theres an adapter at the radio shack store thats just a longer cylinder I might try today, we'll see how busy the mall is when I have a chance to get there

Guys, the stereo adapter from Radio Shack works just fine, but is ugly as s...and really big...I got one right when I both the phone last December but it looks so oversize that I just refuse to use!

Re-read what I posted. I used the adapter I purchased at Radio Shack on two different headsets, and it most definately did not work. And I tried two different adapters.

I don't know about whether there are actually two different ones or not.

EDIT I'll go to Radio Shack tomorrow and note the model number.
Hopefully the 2.5 headset I ordered will make this conversation moot.
It's just pitiful that not only isn't the headset jack a standard size but that there is an adapter issue at all.

You need to buy the "stereo" adapter. I first both a wrong "mono" adapter and opened at the store to figured out that wasn't working (sound only in one side of the headphone). The manager on the store exchanged for a "stereo" adapter and after that sound just like it should. I will be taking a picture and have post so you know which adapter it should be.
Son, I’m 37 years old and I don’t have the habit to make things up just because! So, trust me it works!

As far as I knew, I was getting a "stereo" adapter. I do know I was looking for the one with two black seperator/insulators as opposed to one. I asked specifically for my needs and tested it in front of the salesman at Radio Shack. If there is another option, I was not aware of it nor informed of it by the multiple sales clerks ( Metropcs, Best Buy, Fryes and Radio Shack) I dealt with. When I returned the adapter was when I tested another.....surely the sales man would have offered a "stereo" one then. I sure didn't see one when I looked at the display wall. But I'll be sure to ask tomorrow when I go by to see what model number I did use.

Regardless... I don't have any socks older than your very aged 37 tears, but I'm sure I have several t-shirts older than you.....son.
I'm simply trying to prevent others from going through what I am.

And as I said, hopefully it's all moot, 'cause the new 2.5 adapterless headset I ordered is gonna' work awesome (he said hopefully?????)!!!!!!!
