Help 2011 Hyundai Sonata Bluetooth Issues

My phone pairs and connects fine. But, it gets stuck "Downloading Phonebook". It seems like it freezes or something because it can stay on "Downloading Phonebook" for 45 minutes. I can receive incoming calls, but I cannot make any outgoing calls. Any thoughts?
 
is the evo fully compatible with the vehicles BT system? some car manufacturer sites list phones that are compatible with the cars system, so see if that exists.

if not, give their customer support a call or email. it may be that the BT stack in the car only supports the hands free profile and nothing else...

so why does my dinc work on the first call. i called my wife and we chatted for like 10 minutes on the car BT and after hanging up, the phone disconnected from system.(it does this almost every time after first call)
although the phone was showing disconnected, the car BT showed as still paired and connected. when dialing on the phone it would not reconnect to car BT.
very wierd. i have done several soft resets and removed pairing and started from scratch. gonna try hard phone reset. let you know how it comes out. if that does not work, hyundai dealer might replace the whole nav system. i also noticed that when the phone disconnected, the force close window came up just before it disconnected. said "force close,google services framwork". (happens everytime as well)
if you have any ideas on what to do, please let me know. thanks
 
I bought the Evo the same day I purchased my new 2011 Sonata GLS. My phone book will ocassionally pair with the system, but I haven't figured out how to get by contact dailing working yet. My phone book does not hang, the phone does not unpair, and I can make and recieve calls with no issues. The only other issue I have is that sometimes it takes a while to pair to the car, which is annoying when I'm headed to or from work and want to push my music on the phone to the car audio (which is an amazing feature).
 
Just bought the Sonata last week and my Evo becomes possessed when it is paired. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it just keeps asking to pair, it is really a crapshoot. A bunch of applications crash also when it is paired.

A HUGE pain in the a$#!

I don't know if you've gotten an answer to this or not, but just in case... The Sonata will try to re-download your contact list every time you connect bluetooth in the car. If it can't it will keep trying for quite a while before eventually giving up and reverting to the phone book it already has. When I paired my Dinc, the phone popped up a window saying the car was requesting access to the contacts, with a check box to always allow access without asking. You may want to go through the initial pairing process again and make sure that check box (or a similar setting) is checked. Else the car will keep asking and the phone will keep denying and you'll keep waiting.

I haven't played with the Sonata's bluetooth enough to know whether you can just tell it not to ask every time.
 
I've been considering trading in the 2007 Sonata for a new one...glad to run into this thread before doing so.

I'll wait until next summer when I should have some equity in the car and perhaps snag the new turbo model.
 
Just got a 2011 Sonata Limited Turbo w/ Nav. No issues with BT pairing, connecting, phonebook downloading, or streaming music. It all works perfectly.

In the process of test driving a bunch of different trims, I tested these functions on all the cars. None of them had any issues.

Non-nav model can control the playback through the car's interface if you plug your phone into the USB port and then mount your SD card as a hard drive.
 
Sweeet....I had no idea they were pitting turbos in sonata's. I knew good things would come from the genesis line. Is it fwd or AWd?

front. the engine w/ turbo is a 2.0L I4. non turbo is a 2.4L I4.

Actually, I've been tinkering with some roms, including mods for the deodexed stock, and I think i might have broke some functionality with the USB connection to the car. Here's how it used to work:

1) plug phone into USB jack in Sonata
2) Sonata scans for playable media and doesn't find any because sdcard is not mounted
3) Sonata USB mode exits
4) I manually mount SD as a drive
5) Sonata USB kicks in again and I can control my music via the nav.

But currently, the car can never find any media:

steps 1,2, 3, 4 are the same
5) Sonata USB never tries to look for the phone again.

Observations: on the stock deodexed rom, my phone is still charging, despite the car not able to find any media. In MIUI, the phone only charges for the few seconds the car is looking for media. then, it stops charging.

So I think the problem is ROM-specific. On the stock ROM, where this used to work with the car, I flashed a Calkulin mod to disable the "USB Debugging" notification. I wonder if that is what's confusing the car. I'm going to wipe and reflash the stock ROM and see if the problem goes away.
 
^ let us know. I have seen similar issues with other connection aspects that were ROM specific (bluetooth) Have even been running into codec issues that seem to be Rom specific as well.

good to know about the line up on the Sonata. If I recall correctly that is a similar set up to the Genesis... though the non turbo Genesis is a V6.

don't know that I could ever go back to FWD from AWD though :P

Yes, it is. Aside from my current USB woes (more on that later), I'm perfectly capable of streaming music to my car from my phone. Basically, you pair and connect. Once connected, just fire up your music player of choice, and the sound will come from the car. You may need to press the "Media" button on the car if it doesn't start up automatically.

Ok, as for the ability to use your phone as a mass storage USB drive for music.... This only works on the Dimension stereo system, apparently, and not on the Infinity. The main advantage of using the wired USB connection to play music is that you can control your music via the integrated controls in your car (steering wheel and center console). You can also see the music metadata tags on the display.

On the Dimension system (non-navigation), I could just mount my SDcard as a disk drive, press Media, and be good to go. In the infinity, it won't see my SD card no matter what I try. I've gone through ALL of my old ROMs as well. Makes no difference. Oh well. Looks like my only option is to put my music on an actual USB thumb drive, which really isn't so bad.

BTW, I tested a thumb drive in the Sonata today (Infinity + Nav). It works very well. It categorizes your music by folder (AFAIK, you can't sort by album, genre, or any other metadata tag). You can repeat/randomize. you can randomize within a folder or for the entire drive. Filename shows up on the screen, and you can control the music via your car.
 
As far as general BT connection issues, I know that some ROMs do have issues. I tinker with MIUI, and I'm presently on version 1.28, and BT is buggy.

It is difficult to establish a connection. I can't seem to connect if I initiate the connection via the car. But if I try to connect via the phone, it works, sometimes. Once connected, it stays connected. Next time you get in the car, you have to go through the whole connection issue again.

A2DP also isn't as smooth with MIUI. Every once in a while, like a min or two, there will be hiccups in the stream, like a quick stutter or volume dip. If it happened once an hour, I wouldn't care. But once or twice per song is annoying. I tried a few kernels, but didn't make a difference. So... I guess it's in the OS. Stock ROM works perfectly. I use a netarchy kernel on stock.
 
Not only do i have the same phone and car, but the same problem. from what I've found is that this generally happens under two conditions. 1). Turn the BT on the phone on before turing on the car. Don't attempt to use any phone features until you get "connection complete" message after you've started the car, then within a few minutes, you'll get "transfer complete". 2). Make sure the data is enabled on your phone. I'm sure you know that if your contacts are stored in Google, they dont have a ohysical presence on your phone, so if your data is turned off, they Google contacts won't sync, causing yiur phone to hang of the "downloading phonebook" screen.

I realize I am waking up a rather old thread but it appears appropriate for my question.

I also own a LTD non-turbo Sonata. I also own HTC Sensation and Galaxy Nexus.

BT works fine on voices. But Google Nav voice cannot be heard through the car's speakers. I noticed that when I am talking to someone via bluetooth and the Nav app speaks, I can also hear them as well. So does this mean it is the Google Nav app that is not behaving nicely?

Anyone here uses Google Nav satisfactorily using Sonata's bluetooth?
 
In October I got a 2011 sonata limited turbo with nav and my phone is a samsung galaxy. I have had constant problems getting my phone to connect or when it does show connected if often still does not work. To get it to connect I have to get on my phone and make bluetooth visible whenever I get in the car for it to see it. My other car is a 2010 nissan altima with nav and I get in it an go because my phone connects after I start the car and have never had any problems with it. Every time I drive my sonata my phone will have problems for a day or two from trying to connect to the car. All they could tell me at the dealership is maybe I should update the bluetooth on my phone.
