Root 2011 The TB Replacement

I saw this earlier today and was wondering what is that phone going to be. One of the other htc phones says it is bringing gingerbread, the replacement to the bolt better be dual core, 4g, with a better screen and bigger battery. Then i will consider buying it off contract.

Just like the Inc HD (TB) was supposed to be released last November, but actually came out in March. I HIGHLY doubt we see the Vigor in stores until the end of the year at the earliest, more likely mid to late January, IMPO. The way it works is these awesome phones with great specs are teased and thrown around to tech/Android sites with a possible ETA. The phone then gets pushed back by the carrier/manufacturer and by the time it's actually released it has specs that are already blown away by other leaked devices. For example:

TB-Sensation and EVO3D are both announced with better specs weeks after the TB's release
Bionic-SGSII is announced along with Vigor crushing it spec wise before the Bionic is even released. (Poor Moto, they're shooting themselves in the foot :))

With the way mobile phone development is going the second you buy a phone it's already outdated as far as specs go. For me personally I doubt I'll be signing any 2 year contracts from here on out and will buy my next phone off contract.

And then you need root, which adds another few months. I can't see all the great devs on TB jumping ship just yet. And unless the batt blows everything out of the water I think our canned devices will be just fine for another year. I simply can't be always chasing the latest device whether it's a phone or computer. Besides, there is just a limited speed the birds can fly in AB and still have control.

Yeah i am sad that VZW did away with one year contracts, by the time my year was up on the incredible i was ready for something new. Had to sign a 2 year with the bolt and realistically one of these phones being announced now could be released and still prevalent by the time i get my next upgrade. Although i am not in the market for a phone right now some of the specs that have been thrown around for htc's next big phone are amazing.

If my instincts are correct about the Vigor being released in January sometime I will definitely be buying it off contract. Spec wise it's hard not to droll over it.

As much the tech and gadget geek I am, the only reason I could see my self switching phones is for substantial battery life improvement. Not that it's going to happen anytime soon with big screens, 4G, more cpu/gpu intensive apps etc. I haven't looked up much but are the dual core phones that much more zippy than the TB for everyday use?

I don't think we'll see the vigor until CES

Hopefully with the snapdragon dual 1.5 krait processor and adreno 225 gpu..

Man I hate how they release new phones then press the proxy destruct button on all the ones already in use. :)

I've had 3 phones in the last 16 months so I will likely make it until early next year before I spring for another, maybe by then there will be a point to having a dual core

True, until ice cream comes out there's really not a noticeable advantage. Ill wait to see what CES has to bring and go from there. Only on a one year with the bolt.

Agreed, signed my contract last July for my OG droid, got the DX a couple months later, just picked up the TB about 2 months ago. this phone is fast enough to keep me occupied until my upgrade in March. by then the vigor is going to be old news.

i am really hoping for ICS,quad core, 720p screen, edge to edge display, 4G, and a 4.5" screen,1+GB RAM,8GB internal,32GB SD. while being thinner than the TB. that would be my dream phone.

I'm not due to for an upgrade until March, 2013. I'll be hanging out with the TBolt until then. I suspect things will have changed a bit in that time.

my contract is up in feb. Ill be picking up something new. I tend to stray away from MOTO phones. The Vigor will probably be my choice depending on what else comes out by then

despite the bad rep and criticism the TB seems to have all of a sudden become victim too,ive had good luck with mine. specwise the TB is still a good phone(and is awsome when rooted IMO),and ive got no prollem keepin it if the bigest advantage of the vigor is a dual core processor. im not a huge gamer,i dont do anything thats processor intensive enuff to really utilize a dual core to its full potential. seing that i can OC to 1.5 if i want to,its hard to say wether this would be worth buying outright to have. the specs at this point are not written in stone, its hard to say how it will actually come out.

cm will give us ice cream sandwich,i dont think ill need to change phones to have a stupid sense-skined ICS ;)

last and not least,im with worm on the timeframe. i defiantely wouldnt count htc/vzw chickens till they hatch :D

Pretty sure the twitter buzz is just about rootzwikki's new theme. Check out the site, you'll see it

They sure made a big deal about it dint they? I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think its quite time for cm8.

Yeah really. Get some of the GB stuff fixed first, i.e headset sound, BT, voice mail notifications, and AOSP location services.

I'm sorry to say this, well not really. verizon has outstanding service & HTC has great phones, but they're a bunch of sickos. they release a new HTC phone on verizon that's to be considered "horibble" by some people, then a few months later they release a phone which is a little better than the older one.

So anyone who's planning on buying an HTC Vigor off contract, verizon/HTC got you into their trap to buy a phone at full price!

on the other hand Sprint releases a new HTC phone every year or so, so people can have time to finish their contract & enjoy their phone with the current flow of technology & then continue on with the next flow of technology. & sprint's service isn't that much worse than verizon, with the exception to the 4G on both network. Wimax vs LTE

I get the interest in the functionality portion of ICS on the TBolt, and at this point I don't plan on upgrading to the Vigor, but isn't one of the big things about ICS ditching the soft keys?

Not sure how that would work on a phone not designed like that from the start.

Personally I can't wait till we start to see some HTC phones without the keys. You could easily get a larger screen and prolly shrink the overall size at the same time..

I know I've whined enough about this, but I'm gonna say it again.. I REALLY want the 'Krait' dual 1.5ghz CPU and Adreno 225 GPU. The specs are amazing, and as a bonus, use less battery power than current single 1ghz CPU's. That's gonna be a game changer and Qualcomm started shipping them late Spring. I'm really hoping we see them in an HTC phone at CES.

honeycomb has no keys,im not sure if thats a trait that will follow thru into ICS,wich is supposed to somewhat combine GB and honeycomb into one phone/tablet OS.

phones being released with ICS may have no actual or capacitive buttons, but id be willing to guess the source code will support them,so that current phones can be upgraded.

but then i may be completely wrong, and the buttons will just be there for looks :D

that sounds like a monster... would be sweet to see it in a vzw htc device
