Accessories 2150mah Extended Battery + Case

ifixit has confirmed that the new iphone's battery is 1420 mAh

we'll see how people report battery life on it

Engadget review (yes, review) states 38 hours of moderate use, although I don't buy their stated usage pattern.

I want to see the phone in the hands of regular people who report on the battery life after 2 hours of calls, a bunch of texting, some browing, WiFi/3G on all day and screen at least at 75% brightness.

It'll still be at least 20 hours with REAL usage.

Why can't HTC improve the DI's battery life? Come on! I would expect a kernel underclock with a custom ROM and for Froyo to improve battery life somewhat - nothing over 16 hours.

Anyone have a link to a page that says the 1 ghz OMAP processor is way more power efficient than the Snapdragon?

I just received this battery.

Thickness:
The 2150 battery is 8.9mm thick, the stock 1300 is 4.4mm thick.
So the 2150 is twice the thickness of the stock one.

Weight:
The 2150 battery weighs 51.1g, 62g w/ the cover.
The 1300 battery weighs 31.8g, 39.7g w/ the cover.
So the 2150 will add 22.3g to the weight of the phone.
If you are using the silicone cover and cut the back out you can subtract 5.4g from that for a total weight difference of 16.9g, a grand total of 165.6 w/ the silicone cover - a 13% increase.

I cut the silicone cover's back out and let the 'bulge' stick thru. The total difference in the phone's thickness is only 3mm. That's less than 1/8"

With the stock battery I could normally go the day w/o recharging IF I stayed away from GPS and the camera. The camera totally killed the battery. I don't know what's going on with camera (with the flash off) but it drained the battery in no time. Battery life is really the only thing I didn't like about the Dinc.

I can't really comment on performance yet, but in terms of size and weight, it's no big deal. If you have a protective cover on it already it's hardly any difference and it actually 'feels' a little better in my hands. If the battery has the advertised mah this upgrade will be well worth the coin.

Which BTW, thanks for the 25% off tip, Verizon honored it and the free shipping. $47 w/ tax to my door.

Very slick. I will have to do that with a cheapo silicone case from Amzer (hard silicone). Not sure I can do it as cleanly as you did. Not sure why.

Are you worried about the back absorbing shock if the phone were to drop on the ground?

If so, what would you consider doing as a mod to mitigate that scenario?

Naa, not worried about the back. If I drop it and break it I'll just buy another back.
Li-ion batts can take a lot of abuse, so not worried about it at all.

I think the MotoX is addressing this with the OMAP processor and they have some sort of battery managment system to extend battery life, not really sure the specs.
I don't think it will be long until a 1500mah ISH battery will power a high end android device for 24-36hrs with "moderate use"

What is an ISH battery?

Camera totally rapes my battery, its so bad I try to not even use the thing. Maybe its a bad camera? I know mine freezes and others said I can get it replaced for being faulty.

I am going to do that with my case when my 3500 battery gets here. Would it have looked too gaudy to attach the part you cut off of the case to the battery cover? It would give it some protection and blend in.

so am to understand that now that I received the 2150 mAh, there's no cover that fits it?

Damnation.

It's rare that good cases are made to accommodate a device with an extended battery on it. That said, the Droid Incredible is selling insanely well. With a device this popular, it's more likely that a company will make extended battery compatible cases that look better than the stock one.

Does anyone know of a case with a belt clip that will fit with the extended battery?

SEIDIO makes the belt holster/clip but its not a "case" - just the holster.

Don't think that solves your problem completely or answers your question - but thats what I am using with the HTC 2150 battery.

Awesome. This is exactly what I was hoping to do. Seeing your pictures helps a lot. Thanks for taking the time to post them. I have a black hard silicone case. I will post pictures when I get mine in. I will order it tomorrow.

Hate to say it, but its not just making a bigger battery. Its very hard to make sure the phone minimizes battery use. Its not a simple switch.

I had predicted in earlier posts when the first iPhone 4 pictures were leaked... that its biggest selling point would be awesome battery life.

Thats why the iPhone doesn't have true multitasking. It micromanages what applications are allowed to do to make sure they don't abuse the CPU. Android is an awesome operating system... if apps behave. Unfortunately many of them do not.

Soft or hard silicone case?

I've yet to see someone do it with a hard silicone case.

Post pictures when you're done, please!

seidio will have an innocase for their 3500, sometime in the near future

It's my opinion that if an app is not working properly or efficiently, the user should let the developer know their thoughts and uninstall the app. Don't just leave it be and then complain about Android being buggy because you chose to install some buggy app(A large number of people do this). I don't settle for buggy programs even if they seem really useful.

Agreed. But its hard for users to realize an app is causing a problem. It makes people run task managers which are usually a bad idea.

And unfortunately, sometimes there are no alternative apps. I've thought about writing my own version of apps just to fix some blatant mistake in an app I like, but its too much work just to fix a bug.

My biggest complaint is against Podkast. I like the function, but these folks are completely screwed up about the concept of activities. Starting the app or hitting the back button does incorrect things. The app uses up power in background when it shouldn't. It shuts down in the background when you want it to do something. Basically completely messed up.

has anyone come up with a creative fix for the power button issue? I have modded the black silicone case to accommodate the bigger battery and I thought the problem was with the button on that because many times pressing the button would do nothing. So I cut the button out of the case to give direct access to DINC's power button but I still have the occasional problem where I can't turn the device on or off. Kind of annoying.

Getting mine by FedEx today! The Seidio 1750 is not enough to get me by my 8 hour work day (with the phoen on the entire time running) so I am hoping the 2150 will do the trick.

Already working on cutting out a verizon silicone case so we will see how this all comes out.

Today I have an up time of 14 hours and awake time of 3 hours. About an hour and a half of phone calls, some browsing, a fair amount of texting. Been running bluetooth and wifi for most of the day as well.

54% battery left as of right now. Much better than stock.

I would hope so! The chunky thing is 2X as thick as stock ;)

Thought I'd update this post with a long term use....

I really like it. The life of the phone has gone from less than a day to (normally) two days +
No longer do I feel that I need to carry some sort of charger.

Only downside is that it's very slow to charge. Stock batt will charge up in an hour or two, this takes a LOT longer, seems to charge quite slowly. NBD, just need to remember to plug in once every other day.

Yea the camera drain is ******ed on this phone even with the 2150.
I also like the feel of the phone with this bigger battery, maybe its me but it feels less cheap with the added weight.

I may be doing something horribly wrong, but I just got the 2150 battery in the mail yesterday, charged it to full, and started using it this morning.. within an hour, the battery was down to 75%..?

I just ordered one of these today and I was able to use the code for free overnight shipping so I'll be getting this battery tomorrow!

As of right now I'm still skeptical on this. I really, really like how light and thin the DInc is, but I also would like a battery that can make it through the day (I use my phone pretty heavily).

The deciding factor for me was Verizon's 30 day return policy. With that, you really have nothing to lose and possibly a long lasting battery to gain! I'll give it a fair chance and worst case, I'll take it back for a full refund if it's not for me! :)

Did you bump charge it? My first charge I bumped it like four times.
